The Mandalorian Militia was a Mandalorian paramilitary organization.

Overview[]

History[]

With the Great Clan Wars throwing Mandalorian Space into a state of lawlessness and political disarray, the Mandalorian Militia was formed and called upon to defend settlements who found themselves defenseless in the aftermath of the war. The Militia became the first line of defense for most of the sector, fighting to protect these settlements from pirates, terrorists, and warlords, and providing humanitarian aid to areas ravaged by war. With the Mandalorian Guard's numbers being bolstered and their jurisdiction expanded during the Clone Wars, the Militia briefly found itself of little use, and thus many of its members went to fight as mercenaries on both sides of the war, or returned home to tend to their clans.

Following the Galactic Empire's rise and eventual takeover of Mandalorian Space, the Militia was revived under the command of a mercenary who went by the title of "Supreme Strategist" and established himself as a prominent warlord in the Mandalore sector. Initially, the Militia waged a total war with the Empire that saw massive space battles and the destruction of entire settlements, though eventually the organization was forced to turn to guerrilla tactics after years of constant warfare caused their numbers to dwindle. In 1 BBY, the Militia also fought a war with the Zann Consortium, one which saw the Supreme Strategist briefly captured. Throughout the Galactic Civil War, the Militia was a close ally of Mand'alor Fenn Shysa's Mandalorian Protectors.

Organization[]

The Militia operated a fleet that included StarViper-class attack platforms, M3-A Scyk interceptors, Pursuer-class enforcement ships, Crusader-class corvettes, and a number of Keldabe-class battleships. They also made use of surplus vehicles leftover from the Clone Wars, including Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighters, IPV-1 System Patrol Craft and one Venator-class Star Destroyer (which served as the mobile command center of the Militia). Among these starships, the Militia also made use of a variety of shuttles and freighters to transport troops and supplies. In ground operations, the Militia often made use of Canderous-class assault tanks and armed landspeeders.

Equipment and composition[]

The standard-issue gear of the Militia was a set of green Mandalorian armor set over a black jumpsuit, though some distinguished members were allowed to have more-personalized sets of armor. Weapons issued to Militiamen included GALAAR-15 blaster carbines and EE-3 carbine rifles.

Behind the scenes[]

The Mandalorian Militia is based on the Mandalorian Militiaman unit that appears in the Star Wars Legends strategy game Empire at War: Forces of Corruption.
