I am a Jedi, like my father before me.
—Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker, a Force-sensitive human male, was a legendary Jedi Master who fought in the Galactic Civil War during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Along with his companions, Princess Leia Organa and General Han Solo, Skywalker served as a revolutionary on the side of the Alliance to Restore the Republic—an organization committed to the downfall of the Galactic Empire and the restoration of democracy. Following the war, Skywalker became a living legend, and was remembered as one of the greatest Jedi to ever live within galactic history.
The son of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala, Luke Skywalker was born along with his twin sister, Leia, in 19 BBY. As a result of Amidala's death and Anakin's fall to the dark side of the Force, the Skywalker children were separated and sent into hiding, with Leia adopted by the royal family of Alderaan while Luke was raised by his relatives on Tatooine. Longing for a life of adventure and purpose, Skywalker joined the Rebellion and began learning the ways of the Force under the guidance of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose first apprentice was Luke's own father. During the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, Skywalker saved the Alliance from annihilation by destroying the Empire's planet-killing superweapon, the Death Star. He continued his training in the years that followed, determined to become a Jedi Knight like his father before him, and found a new mentor in Grand Master Yoda.
Skywalker fulfilled his own part in the prophecy of the Chosen One, redeeming his father and the Sith were destroyed with the death of the Emperor at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. With the Sith's destruction and the subsequent capitulation of the Empire, Skywalker traveled across the galaxy during New Republic Era, searching for knowledge that would aid him in rebuilding the Jedi Order. He trained a number of initial students, such as Mara Jade and Kyle Katarn, who would go on to aid him as fellow masters to raise a new generation of Jedi, including his oldest Nephew Conner Organa; the very successor to the Chosen One himself.
Grandmaster Skywalker grew his order for two decades, taking in more students while still recovering old Jedi lore out his temple on Ossus. This eventually culminating in the arrival of his sisters other children, Jaina and Jacen, Anakin, and Ben Solo, Leia's sons and daughter with Han Solo. The order restored, Skywalker led his peers and students against the Yuuzhan Vong during a war from 24 ABY to 27 ABY.
His solitude was interrupted in 34 ABY, shortly after the fall of the New Republic, resulting in a chain of events that led Skywalker to become embroiled in another role in the battle of light and darkness.
Biography[]
Exile on Ahch-To[]
Having failed in bringing back the Jedi Order, Skywalker intended nothing more than to live out the rest of his days there in reclusive exile. Taking the relics he had uncovered with him, the hermit shut himself off from the Force, consequently ceasing the guidance of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Anakin Skywalker's spirits.
For six years, Luke was absent from galactic affairs, allowing the First Order to grow in power.
After taking his old lightsaber and looking it over, Skywalker, emotion roiled over his face, hoping to lose the blade once again, tossed it behind him and left the plateau, with Rey following close behind him. Secluding himself in his hut, Skywalker thought to himself that he didn't expect a child with a worthless antique and the delusions of grandeur to find him. Despite her repeated attempts, Skywalker declined to help her or the Resistance, even though he knew that the girl had been sent by his sister Leia. Later, Luke was folding his old clothes then heard Rey trying to reach out to him again by knocking on his door but he told her to go away. However, Luke was surprised when his door broke open but was even more surprised to see his old friend Chewbacca was with her. Hearing how they got to where he was with the Millennium Falcon, Luke asked where Han was as Rey and Chewbacca told him that his old friend and brother-in-law was dead, stunning Skywalker.

Luke is found and returned his long-lost lightsaber given to him by Kenobi thirty-four years earlier.
Feeling regret for not having sensed his brother-in-law's death for having disconnected himself from the Force, Luke was comforted by the Wookiee, who hugged him. When Rey discovered several original texts of Jedi teachings hidden within a sacred tree on the island, Skywalker learned that she had the Force within her and sought assistance to understand it and her place in the galaxy. Skywalker revealed that he had come to the place where the Jedi started in order to die, and voiced his belief that it was time for the Jedi Order to die.
The next night, the former Jedi Master slipped into the Millennium Falcon and recalled the adventures he had experienced. While aboard, Skywalker reunited with R2 who, after he insisted that he could not be convinced to help, replayed Leia's holographic message to Kenobi. Although Skywalker grumbled that the tactic "was a cheap move" on the droid's part, it nevertheless inspired Skywalker to agree to give Rey some basic initiation training as a Jedi, explaining the basic foundations of the Force.
