I am a Jedi, like my father before me.
—Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker, a Force-sensitive human male, was a legendary Jedi famous for his role in defeating the Sith-led Galactic Empire, founding the New Jedi Order as its first Grand Master, and tipping the scales balance of the Force toward the Light.
Born at the conclusion of the Clone Wars with his twin sister, Luke was the son of Darth Vader—once named Anakin Skywalker—and Senator Padmé Amidala. While his sister was sent to Alderaan and adopted by the Royal House of Organa, Luke was instead taken to Tatooine to be raised by Beru and Owen Lars under the protection of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Following the fateful purchases of R2-D2 and C-3PO, the deaths of his guardians at the hands of the Empire's soldiers, and meeting with Kenobi himself, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, Luke was thrust into an interstellar quest that reunited him with Princess Leia, his long-lost sister, and made him a hero of the Battle of Yavin where he destroyed the Death Star, earning the moniker of "Starkiller" amongst Red and Rogue Squadron pilots, the latter of whom he came to lead. As the conflict between the Empire and the Alliance continued onward, Luke was trained by Jedi Master Yoda on Dagobah and learned the truth of his familial connection to Darth Vader. Rather than destroying his birth father as Yoda and Kenobi warned him he would have to do, Skywalker managed to bring Anakin back to the Light and instigate the death of Emperor Palpatine I at the Battle of Endor, dealing a vital blow to the Galactic Empire.
Shortly afterward, Luke Skywalker—first of the new Jedi—chose to withdraw from the public and embarked on a pilgrimage across the galaxy with hopes of learning more about, and ultimately restoring, the Jedi Order. On his travels, he began taking in hopeful students as well, the first of whom being Hemera Shōga, a bastard daughter of Palpatine I. Skywalker's New Jedi Order blossomed on Ach-To, as did his relationship with Hemera, with the two of them growing close from friends to lovers. Eventually, the pair married and in 15 ABY, had a child named Rey. Mere weeks following the birth of his daughter however, Luke was plagued by recurring nightmares and disturbing, near-incomprehensible visions with her as a focal point. He disappeared soon after, with some believing he was dead, yet neither Hemera nor Leia lost hope that Luke would one day return.
