Leia Amidala Skywalker Organa was a Force-sensitive female Human-Kyro'nian hybrid who at various stages of her life was a politician, revolutionary, general and Jedi Knight. Born in 19 BBY, she was the daughter of the Human Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Human-Kyro'nian Senator Padmé Amidala Naberrie of Naboo, and the younger twin sister of Luke Skywalker. Her birth occurred in the last days of the Clone Wars, which saw the Jedi Order purged and the Galactic Republic reorganized into the Galactic Empire. With their mother's death in childbirth and their father's fall to the dark side of the Force, the children were separated to keep them hidden from the hands of the Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine, who was Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith. She was adopted by Queen Breha Organa and her husband, Viceroy Bail Prestor Organa, making her the Princess of Alderaan, a planet in the Core Worlds known for its pacifism.

Early life[]
Birth[]
Leia and Luke, her twin brother, were born on the asteroid colony of Polis Massa two days after the rise of the Galactic Empire and the Great Jedi Purge Great Jedi Purge. They were the children of Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. Amidala died shortly after giving birth to the moon, leaving the twins orphaned. Leia was, through the Force, left with a lasting impression of her mother as a beautiful and kind but sad woman, something her brother lacked.
Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Grand Master Yoda decided that the children should be separated to protect them from Darth Sidious, who now ruled as Galactic Emperor and who intended to hunt down the remaining Jedi. With that, Kenobi took the boy to live on Tatooine with his father's half-brother, Owen Lars, and his wife; while Leia was adopted by Senator Bail Organa and his wife, Queen Breha. Meanwhile, Amidala's body was sent back to Naboo, with instructions to prepare it so that it would appear that she was still pregnant, so that no one would know of the children's existence.
