Leia Organa, born Leia Amidala Skywalker, was a female Human who was the Princess of Alderaan and a major figure of the Rebel Alliance. As the daughter of the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, she was exceptionally strong in the Force and a powerful Jedi in her own right. She was adopted by Queen Breha Organa and Viceroy Bail Prestor Organa of Alderaan and raised as the Princess of Alderaan.

From a young age, Princess Leia was a pivotal member of the Rebel Alliance, using her position in the Imperial Senate to procure funds and resources for the growing rebellion. In 0 BBY, she acquired the plans to the Death Star, a planet-destroying superweapon created by the Galactic Empire, and was subsequently captured by the Empire, albeit not before entrusting the plans with her astromech droid R2-D2. She was rescued by Han Solo and Luke Skywalker—her separated brother unbeknownst to her—and continued her role as a prominent leader of the Rebel Alliance.

Following the Imperial Sith War, Leia Organa was elected Chief of State of the New Republic, spending much of her term focusing on rebuilding and restoring the New Republic from the damage done by the Sith Order of Darth Vorath.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Leia was born on Polis Massa along with her twin brother Luke to Padmé Amidala, who died shortly after their birth. In order to hide them from Emperor Palpatine and their father Darth Vader, the twins were separated with Leia being adopted by Senator Bail Organa and his wife Queen Breha Organa.[1] Raised as the Princess of Alderaan, Leia had no clue as to her true origins, though she knew she was adopted and had vague memories of her biological mother's last moments.[2]

In 14 BBY, a five-year-old Leia refused to eat her plate of ruica until she was convinced to do so by her mother after being reminded of the story of the warrior-queen Tialga.[3]

By the time she was nine, she had acquired the toy droid L0-LA59, whom she nicknamed "Lola."[3]

Princess and rebel[]

At the age of sixteen, Leia discovered that her father was organizing an open rebellion against the tyrannical Galactic Empire. Sharing their grievances with Emperor Palpatine's rule, Leia convinced her parents to let be a part of the rebellion and she soon rose to become one of its leading figures. Two years later, Bail Organa stepped down as Senator of Alderaan and Leia took his place in the Imperial Senate, using her newfound diplomatic immunity to aid the growing rebellion.[4]

In 0 BBY, while on a diplomatic mission to Ralltiir, which was under the control of Lord Tion, Leia met a wounded rebel agent who informed her of a superweapon the Empire had constructed known as the Death Star. By exploiting Lord Tion's romantic feelings for her, Leia managed to avoid an inspection from Darth Vader and depart from Ralltiir. Escaping to Kattada, Leia and the crew of the Tantive IV were confronted by Imperial forces tasked with arresting her, leading to a battle that ended in Rebel victory and maintained Leia's cover.[5]

Returning to Alderaan, Leia invited Lord Tion to have dinner with her and her father in the hopes of getting information on the Empire's weapon from him. Tion, hoping to have Leia's hand in marriage, revealed everything he knew to the Organas. However, when Leia let slip that she knew more about the Death Star than she was supposed to, Tion attempted to apprehend her. In the ensuing struggle, Tion's blaster accidentally discharged and killed him. With the information gathered from Tion, the Rebel Alliance prepared an operation to retrieve the plans to the Death Star.[6]

Restoring the Republic[]

Early invasions[]

While the Battle of Endor saw to the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, the Empire remained in control of Coruscant and the greater galaxy, and Leia continued to lead the Alliance as they moved towards restoring the Republic.

In the days that followed the Battle of Endor, the Alliance answered a distress call from Bakura and helped the natives deal with invaders from the Ssi-ruuvi Imperium. During the Bakura Incident, Leia signed a temporary truce with the Empire for the duration of the invasion, although it was ultimately broken by Imperial governor Wilek Nereus.[7]

Not long after the Ssi-ruuvi Imperium had been defeated, the Alliance fended off the Dark Lady Lumiya as they became embroiled in the Nagai-Tof War.[8].

A new Republic[]

By late 4 ABY, the New Republic had been officially established by the leaders of the Rebel Alliance, with Mon Mothma serving as Chief of State. Under Mothma, a Provisional Council was formed and Leia served on it as one of Mothma's most trusted advisors. As the New Republic made the push towards retaking Coruscant, they also had to contend with a number of Imperial warlords that had sprouted up in the wake of the Emperor's demise.

Eleven months after the Battle of Endor, Leia had Winter serve as her double at a reception on Eiattu 6 while she went on an undercover mission to Axxila, where she secretly met with Grand Vizier Sate Pestage. The acting ruler of the Empire, feeling threatened by Director Ysanne Isard and the member of the Ruling Council, had reached out to Organa and offered to leave Coruscant vulnerable to a New Republic liberation in exchange for amnesty. Before Organa could consider the offer, Axxila was attacked by the forces of Admiral Delak Krennel, who had come to recover Pestage and capture Organa. While Pestage was pulled out of Axxila, Krennel's forces retreated at his behest before they could take Organa captive.[9]

Operation: Cinder[]

Shortly after the disastrous Battle of Mindor, Organa met with Moff Quarsh Panaka at Hosk Station in the hopes of bringing Naboo into the New Republic and avoiding a conflict. However, Panaka was non-receptive to her appeals and essentially denied any chance of surrendering.[10] Realizing she wouldn't be able to get through to Panaka, Organa decided to find a way to reach out to the Queen of Naboo and speak with her personally. Enlisting the help of Shara Bey, Organa departed for Chommell Minor in the hopes of finding a direct line to the Queen and circumventing the Imperial blockade around Naboo.[11]

Traveling aboard the freighter Starwish, piloted by Nald Ducson, Organa and Bey made it Chommell Minor, where they disguised themselves as Imperials and infiltrated a local base in the hopes of gaining clearance codes to get past the Naboo blockade. However, they were discovered when the Inquisitor Zavar Rarnok detected Leia's presence in the Force. While Shara was captured, Leia was taken by Rarnok to be brought to Lady Dulcea Greejatus, the de facto ruler of Chommell Minor.[11]

Chief of State[]

In the aftermath of the Imperial Sith War, Leia was elected Chief of State of the New Republic and immediately set about rebuilding and restoring.[12]

In 28 ABY, she attended Remembrance Day on New Alderaan, a ceremony dedicated to remembering the destruction of Alderaan. During the event, she met the band known as Lola and the Huttslayers, who dressed themselves after the outfit she had worn during her brief enslavement by Jabba the Hutt. While slightly perturbed by the use of the outfit she had worn, Leia was nonetheless moved by their stories and parted on good terms with them. She later encountered Senator Carise Sindian, who suggested to Leia that she reestablish the Alderaanian monarchy on New Alderaan, an idea which Leia politely but firmly rejected.[3]

Not long after, the event was interrupted by an attack commenced by a terrorist group known as the Children of Vader.[3]

In 30 ABY, Leia chose not to run for reelection and was subsequently succeeded as Chief of State by Senator Lanever Villecham.

The Glorian War[]

In 35 ABY, Leia called Han and Anakin to meet her Mon Cala, where she showed them a message sent to her from her brother Luke's former apprentice Toah Jarsan, urging them to "beware the Glorians." Afterwards, she agreed to Jedi Master Xanus Baran's plan to send a team led by Anakin Solo to locate Toah Jarsan and uncover the threat of the Glorians.[13]

In the midst of the Glorian War that broke out soon after, Leia received a message from her eldest son Jacen, informing her that he would be leaving on sabbatical to uncover the mysteries of the Force.[14]

During the final battle with the Glorians at Coruscant, Leia manned one of the turrets aboard the Millennium Falcon as it provided cover fire for Jaina Solo and Rogue Squadron.[15]
