The Lawyteret T'lessia was the planetary ruling body of the Sa'ari people, having jurisdiction over all of T'lessia. The higher tier in the planet's two-tiered representative democracy, its membership consisted of two Lawyteret delegates apiece elected from the various Sa'ari republics, for a total of two hundred and twelve. Presided over by a Presidia and Vice-Presidia voted on by the entire planet, its legislative component consisted of the delegates themselves debating and passing laws of global importance. Its judicial branch was made up of a separate panel of judges, appointed by the Presidia and held accountable by the Lawyteret itself.
Though superior in theory to the national lawytes of the one hundred six Sa'ari republics, these national governments nevertheless secured political, socio-economic and military alliances through their delegates on the Lawyteret itself. Through such coalition governance, the Tal'adin and Hiltone Republics were, by 40 ABY, the first and second most influential nation-states both in terms of political power and overall size. Delegates to the Lawyteret T'lessia gathered in the Foruma Lawyteret, which was located in the planetary capital of Tal'adin City. In 44 ABY, the Lawyteret established the T'lessian Defense Force, merging the military forces of the various Sa'ari republics into a single entity which answered directly to the planetary ruling body. This step, unprecedented in the history of T'lessia, occurred in the aftermath of the brief but bloody Sa'ari Civil War.
Behind the scenes[]
The theory behind the Lawyteret T'lessia and its constituent lawytes, as expressed in the fan fiction novel The Great Leap Forward, is based on a binding version of the United Nations of Earth.
