"Kyros Prevails" was the national anthem of the Kyros sector of the Galactic Republic, and later the Independent Kyros Sector. During the New Sith Wars and the Imperial Era, and later the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion, it was actively suppressed in occupied territories.

History[]

"Kyros Prevails" was probably in use centuries earlier, but was formally collected by King Magnus Vaganda in 1,448 BBY, when the Kyros sector was attacked and partly occupied by the New Sith Empire. The sector, then comprising well over 7,000 systems, fragmented under the onslaught. Large parts were occupied for fourteen years before the invaders could be driven out. The anthem provided a focal point of unity for the people, as in the old days of the wars of conquest, and this was the King's aim. The song became very popular during the war, especially towards the end, when large parts of the sector again fell under Sith occupation, although the Sith burned at the stake anyone caught singing it.

Later, the song was used by Kyrian nationalists who fought in the Clone Wars, and by nationalists of the next generation who opposed the Galactic Empire. It was therefore outlawed once again.

The song was made the national anthem of the brief Independent Kyros Sector, but after its fall, it was once again made illegal in the New Republic occupation zone. Much to the dismay of more traditional Kyrian nationalists, the song also became something of an unofficial anthem for the Imperialist Party, a totalitarian Kyrian and Imperial faction.

Lyrics[]

"Kyros Prevails" was originally only available in Kyrian, but translated to Basic in the Republic Era. This version has gained currency even among the native Kyrians. Although the song was written in full at its conception, the last verse was not in general peacetime use.

Explanations:

"in Sun and Rain": No matter the circumstances.

"till I Fall": Until I die (whether of age or in battle).

"the Glorious Days of the Past": The days of the Greater Kyrian Empire in the years before the New Sith Wars.

"When Thy Light shone from Talarn to Locmari": When the Empire encompassed these two neighbouring sectors (among others).

"Kyrskar": Kyrian for the Kyrian people.

"the Freedom our Blood bought": All those who died in the struggle against the Sith (or indeed against any enemy).

"till I'm Named": Until I die (Kyrian religion maintains that a man earns his true name only in death).

"My House may be ruined": Literally (such as during the New Republic's bombings of Mar Lann) or referring to family, or even nation.

"the Kyrsk Soil": Kyrian ground, or even sector space ("Kyrsk" means "Kyrian" in the Kyrian language).
