Kyriel Jinyx “Jynx” Windrunner (/kaɪˈriːl ˈd͡ʒɪˌnɪks ˈwɪndˌrʌn.ɜr/) was a Drakonus female born on the planet Klesk but raised on Ruusan. She was the apprentice of Breek Zagrev and well-known for being the first Force-user trained in the Golden Empire outside the Order of Keltrayu.

Biography[]

Childhood trauma[]

Kyriel was born Jinyx Starfall on Klesk in 114 ABY, to Rhonin Starfall and his wife Vesseera. At the time of her birth, Klesk was nearing the end of its civil war. Jinyx spent most of her time in her house unless her brother took her out.

The young man, Kaibur Starfall, was a soldier and took great care to protect the girl. Fearing that Ahsat Ruchlos might try to take his sister for one of his experiments, Kaibur tried to take her to uninhabited locations. Their favorite place was a small island. Jinyx loved it there and the girl seemed happier away from people. As the death toll rose, Jinyx seemingly withdrew from people and took to fits of crying; nothing could calm her.

Kaibur suspected that his sister was able to pick up on the emotions of others. Being an unknowing Force-sensitive himself, Kaibur started to make prepations to get his family safely offworld. This resulted in Kaibur's public execution. Jinyx became inconsolable, and did nothing but scream and cry. Her parents knew they had to leave, and used Kaibur's half-developed plan to escape Klesk.

Orphaned[]

The next year of Jinyx's life was filled with constant confusion as she bounced from planet to planet at random with her parents. They made their way into the known galaxy and eventually landed on Ruusan. Jinyx seemed fascinated with the planet, and her parents took it as a sign. The three Drakonus spent the first few months nomadically wandering through caves. It was during their travels that Jinyx and her family were attacked by bandits who thought the Drakonus might have relics or artifacts from the Valley of the Jedi. Rhonin tried his best to defend his family but was mortally wounded in the robbery. He died from his injuries in only a few days' time.

With her family even more broken, Jinyx withdrew into her own head. She and her mother survived off the land for close to a year before Vesseera fell ill. The disease spread into her lungs. Jinyx spent over a week with her mother before the elder woman succumbed to infection and died in 119 ABY.

Being left on her own at only five, Jinyx was unable to care for herself. The young Drakonus had never shifted forms, so she could not hunt. She at the food from her mother's pack, but it ran out shortly after the woman's death. Jinyx was slowly starving to death when a pair of traders discovered the girl drinking from a pool of water. Noticing the body of Vesseera nearby, the pair looted the site for anything of use before taking Jinyx with them. They assumed she was an orphaned Human.

Bad to worse[]

Speaking no Basic at all, the pair, a husband and wife, named Jinyx “Kyriel Jynx”—though they could not understand what the child was saying, they thought that might have been her name. They taught Jinyx their language and she lived with them and their three children.

In 121 ABY, Jinyx was rough-housing with some of the children when she pushed one using the Force. The child only suffered bruises, but both Jinyx's parents were frightened. They thought if a child could do that, something had to be done. They removed Jinyx from the house and let her live in the shed out back.

Not understanding the sudden change and distance from her parents, Jinyx became confused. After she threw a fit one night, Jinyx's adoptive father waited until the girl was asleep and tried to strangle her to death. Jinyx shifted forms for the first time. She survived the experience, as did her father, though he was injured. The experienced solidified the parents' understanding that Jinyx was not Human. From then on, they kept Jinyx more like an animal, going so far as to rent her out for manual labor.

Bounty huntress[]

It was during this time that Jinyx was found by another Drakonus, though she did not know it. Shaydow Tynblade purchased Jinyx from her adoptive parents. He aware of what she was, both as a fellow Drakonus and another Force-sensitive, and saw her as an investment. That same year, 139 ABY, Jinyx left Ruusan with the man.

For three years, Jinyx traveled the known galaxy with Shaydow. She learned the basics of bounty hunting, and together they brought Shaydow more wealth. Jinyx was fascinated by all the new places they visited.

In 142 ABY, Shaydow decided to take Jinyx into the Unknown Regions. He was returning to Rykar and his people. Jinyx still had no idea what she was. She was introduced to Gem Reytal. Jinyx stayed on Rykar with Shaydow for a few years as they planned their next move, a job that would take place in 146 ABY. Shaydow planned to break into a security building in Chiss space and steal some security files. Little did Jinyx know this was all a plot so Shaydow would be caught and taken before the Queen.

The Empire[]

The pair was easily apprehended by a Centurion named Noelle, who was serving as Consul of Sposia. Jinyx was by no means comfortable with being arrested despite Shaydow's reassurances, and when they were brought before Queen Rin Sakaros the young Drakonus did not know what to do.

Shaydow asked for Rykar to join the Golden Empire, and brought Jinyx with him as a gift. It was explained then that Jinyx was a Force-sensitive with what even Rin conceded was an unusual amount of potential power. This came as a shock to Jinyx, who had no idea about her heritage. It was Rin Sakaros herself who first triggered Jinyx's shift into Drakonus form with the help of Jadian Star.

Jade and Jinyx[]

Confused and now frightened by the sudden departure of everything she knew, Jinyx was surprised when Jade offered to take her on as an apprentice. Having no other options, Jinyx agreed to learn the Force. Jade introduced Jinyx to her husband, Tekk Draykhan. Jinyx trained hard with the pair, learning how to control the Force as well as her Drakonus form. It was from Jade that Jinyx learned the history of the Drakonus.

Early in her time in the Empire, Jinyx became the object of Tariun Sakaros's distrust and dislike. The Phoenix Prince feared that Jinyx and the Chiss Centurion Vos'elk'eetash together, when fully trained, might be able to overpower Rin. Being a Sith Lord, rather than attempt to ensure both remained loyal, he would have preferred to have one killed, and his fondness for Selkee and instinctive dislike for Jade suggested it be Jinyx. Rin, however, forbade the killing, and Tariun was unwilling to openly defy her, but he maintained a snide and cold attitude to Jinyx whenever they chanced to meet.

The Nightmare War arrived in 149 ABY. When Anzat clones and Skavik attacked Rykar, Jade and Jinyx were on the front lines. It was there that Jinyx made her first kill. She was not excited by it, but instead bothered by her unnatural enemy.

She returned to the Sith Star with Jade and Tekk. For close to a year, Jinyx observed the Nightmare War. She trained occasionally with Selkee, the only being in the Empire apart from Rin who rivaled Jinyx for potential power. Their encounters were often unpleasant, and on one memorable occasion when Jinyx fell into a blind rage after Selkee Force choked her, Selkee shocked her with Force lightning to subdue her.

During the Battle of the Sith Star, Jade and Tekk tried to get to safety in the Citadel. They were ambushed by Veracht, Skavik, and Anzat clones. Tekk was killed in the attack and Jinyx was forced to knock out her master when Jade went blind with rage. Jinyx saved Jade by pulling her into a utility closet and barricarding the door.

A new master[]

Breek Zagrev[]

With Tekk's death, Jade became reclusive, leaving Jinyx to sit and wait for her for long hours. Shortly after, Jade abandoned Jinyx on the Star. For a few months Jinyx trained in the Citadel with the supervision of Prefect Eskol Kaartinen before Rin sent Jinyx to Baes to be the student of Rin's sister-in-law, Princess and Consul Breek Zagrev.

Having only recently been abandoned, Jinyx was not thrilled with getting a new master. Breek was remorseless and demanded the best of Jinyx. Jinyx trained hard, though, and in 150 ABY, she was with Breek and her two children, Delliak and Nike, when they fell under attack. Jinyx hid the children using her wings and helped get them to safety. She would later track the three attempted assassins down, exposing the complicity of the Human Unity Front. It was the first service Jinyx rendered to her master that was not an order.

Raynar[]

Later that same year, at a retirement party Breek hosted for Captain Salin Tesshir, Jinyx met Midshipman Raynar Tarq. The man was another Drakonus and the first other than Shaydow and Jade she had met off Rykar. They hit it off and started a long-distance relationship.

In 151 ABY, Raynar visited Jinyx on Baes. They two became physically involved during that tyime, though Jinyx was lying to him, claiming she was nothing more than a consular aide; Breek did not want the news of Jinyx's power leaked before the woman was strong enough to defend herself.

New family[]

Breek's Royal Guards, Benzeel Rikos and Zeth Kezzerek, initially maintained a healthy skepticism toward Jinyx, though they helped her train as Breek instructed. In time, however, the two Centurions warmed to the young woman, eventually becoming her friends and protective of her, even so far as grilling Raynar over breakfast.

Jinyx also developed a tentative friendship with Jira Zaffrod, Breek's fellow Centurion and best friend, who helped Jinyx reawaken her childhood love for music. Jira chided Breek for constantly focusing on training and the expense of leisure, and Breek responded in her way by ordering her apprentice to find a hobby. To encourage her new friend's musical interests, Jira sent Jinyx a viol.

The closest relationship she forged, though, was with Breek's youngest child, Amina. Though uncomfortable around children in general, Jinyx found Amina's pushy and spontaneous attitude somewhat endearing. For her part, Amina adored Jinyx, and often blithely ignored the Drakonus's discomfort by charging toward her and hugging her.

153[]

153 ABY was an eventful year for Jinyx, and little of it good. She was invited along with Breek's household to attend Jira's performance at the Samayus Palace of Opera. Jinyx brought Raynar as her date, but was exposed as a Force user when Delliak Sakaros casually mentioned it in front of Raynar. The two Drakonus fought, and Jinyx sought advice from Jira, who was married to a Royal Navy officer and could understand the difficulties of dating a non-Force-sensitive military man. Though Raynar was deeply stung at being lied to, the two Drakonus eventually reconciled.

Later that year, Breek gave Jinyx her first solo mission, sending her to deliver starfighters to neighboring Vall`to. Jinyx was to covertly return to Baes, but she vanished. The woman reappeared on Baes three days later, crashing a craft onworld. Her Consular Security guards had been killed and Jinyx badly beaten, tortured, and raped by a radical group of Impari terrorists. Breek called Raynar to Baes to help Jinyx with her emotional recovery, and Rin Sakaros placed Jinyx under the treatment of her personal physician, Tillandra Moraes, even giving the Drakonus some of her own regenerative blood to ensure Jinyx's wings regrew and her injuries healed.

Once she recovered, Rin sent Jinyx and Selkee to Rykar so Jinyx could obtain crystals for her new lightsaber. During their time together, despite their personal differences, the pair thwarted an assassination plot against Draze and Tenebrous Tynblade. Some ferals attacked and the assassins were all killed before Selkee could interrogate them. Later, after finding the crystals, Jinyx and Selkee were attacked by a feral. Selkee killed it, only for Jinyx discover by smell that it had been related to her. She would later find it was her aunt, Amelthia Starfall.

The encounter with family caused Jinyx to have nightmares. With long talks with Benzeel Jinyx found they were memories long buried.

Upgrade[]

In 154 ABY, Breek was relieved of her consulship and promoted to Royal Executor. She was given a fleet of her own, taking the Valkyrie as her flagship. Rin asked both women about their arrangement, and because both Breek and Jinyx wished to continue their master-apprentice relationship, Rin approved. Jinyx received a small cabin on the Valkyrie for herself.

Benzeel had been rotated out of Breek's Royal Guard shortly before the Human was promoted and was replaced by Aearbo Manitani. The Loreskus and Jinyx were uncomfortable from the start, and the situation only grew worse when Zeth was succeeded by Serasuna Yun, who was closer to Jinyx than Aearbo. Selkee's assignment to the fleet later in 154 complicated the dynamic even further.

Jinyx and Breek returned to Rykar soon after, as Breek wished to speak to Consul Gem Reytal and meet Tenebrous, who would one day become her brother in the Order of Keltrayu. From the start of the trip, Shaydow picked at Jinyx, speaking to her as an inferior and treating her more like an object than a person. Finally Jinyx was pushed to far and almost challenged the man; Breek stopped the encounter before it could go further, knowing the political catastrophe that would result if Jinyx killed Shaydow.

Holocron hunt[]

Not long after, Rin sent Breek and Jinyx to Coruscant to retrieve a pair of Sith holocrons. The pair searched much of the Coruscant underworld before making contact with the Faust information broker Wonga Vurb. In an ensuing scuffle, Breek prevented Ioana Cur'tan from killing Vurb while Jinyx fended off Vurb's bodyguards, who thought she was the threat. Vurb provided them information before going underground.

Following the trail, Breek and Jinyx discovered an apartment, in which Malleigh Rason and Grumyukkan had been murdered. The apartment was booby-trapped and exploded. As Breek meditated for guidance, her use of the Force drew the attention of two Jedi, and Breek ordered Jinyx to get their stolen speeder going while she dueled the two Jedi. Breek killed them both, but was seriously wounded.

The women tracked down Echepa'runam shortly before the Twi'lek died, and followed her killers to find members of the Mecrosa Order making off with the holocrons. Breek charged Jinyx with dueling Evangelia Maxico, and in the subsequent battle, Jinyx bested Maxico. The two women left the Mecrosa agents alive and fled back to the Empire, delivering the holocrons to Rin.

The Clanless[]

Once back and recovered, Jinyx returned to Rukar for Raynar's one hundredth birthday. It was at this time that she stayed with a group of Clanless in Atteth as well as with the Tarq Clan. She became close with the group—Rose, Argentyne, Septh, Jiro, Quoryn, and Jyzia—and actually stayed with them even after Raynar returned to service.

Back to her roots[]

Rin wished to expand the Empire south, and sent Breek to negotiate with the P'w'eck Confederation. Jinyx accompanied her master on the trip and picked up some of the P'w'eck language.

After the mission succeeded, Breek prepared to return her fleet to the Empire, but Jinyx began to sense something. Breek ordered the Valkyrie to follow her apprentice's directions, and Jinyx followed the Force to a planet that, unbeknownst to her, was Klesk. Wandering the surface, she discovered she could see how the world was in the past. She made her way to a house and discovered it to be her home. Jinyx found her family name, Starfall, and discovered the fate of Klesk—the Mort Sora virus had devastated the world and killed off its entire population.

As Selkee pointed out, Jinyx was the last survivor of the planet, and therefore master of the world. She gave it to the Empire freely, and proposed it as a new home for the Djinnosh, whose homeworld of Geruett was dying. Rin accepted the gift, but gave Jinyx 1,000 square kilometers of her choosing on Klesk as a reward. After rediscovering Klesk, Jinyx completely abandoned the use of the name “Kyriel”, going by “Jinyx” exclusively.

Being the only survivor also made Jinyx clan leader of the Starfall Clan; Gem Reytal invited Jinyx to Rykar for a crash course on her new status. Raynar had come to Klesk with Vice Admiral Tarse Medrego, the newly installed military governor of the planet. He and Jinyx spent some time together, but got into a fight not long after regarding Clanless rights and broke up. Jinyx stayed with her Clanless friends on Rykar, even playing a small concert with Septh and the gang, which Benzeel and Zeth attended.

Temet nosce[]

Jinyx's first exposure to large-scale combat after Rykar came in 155 ABY, when Breek sent her into the Battle of Chimet with a squad of soldiers. She forged a bond with her squadmates and succeeded in securing the water treatment plant that was the squad's objective. Sergeant Hiligo Wast praised her mix of obedience to orders and creativeness in battle in his report to Breek.

Pleased with her apprentice's success, Breek next sent Jinyx into battle on Renthiv. The battle against the native Garjo was substantially more brutal and ferocious than the invasion of Chimet had been, and the pressure of death building up on Jinyx finally caused her to snap. She fell into Force Rage and killed many of the Garjo before eating them. Selkee managed to come to her aid as the Rage died down, but the loss of control scared Jinyx, and she mentally shunned what she was.

In the aftermath of the battle, Breek sent Jinyx to Daispin along with Staff Sergeant Erastik Trapp. Trapp was tasked with teaching Jinyx to use a blaster pistol and blaster rifle, but her most important training came from Daispin's Consul (and Breek's brother Centurion) Vem. A Fyaar, Vem trained Jinyx to understand herself better. It was at this time Jinyx came to realize most of her worldview was from growing up around humanoids. She became more set in her head and found she could more easily control her instincts.

Powers and abilities[]

Jinyx was a known Force user with more midi-chlorian-born Force potential than any being in the Golden Empire apart from Rin Sakaros and Selkee. She learned the basics from her first master, Jade. Breek built upon that to teach Jinyx various forms of hand to hand as well as telekinesis, telepathy, and many other Force powers.

Jinyx was an empath even in the Force and constantly used the ability to read people and their motives and moods. This possibly came from her constant exposure to extreme emotions when young.

One of the more rare abilities Jinyx possessed was that of Flow-walking. This especially came about on Klesk where she was deeply tied to the planet and its people. Jinyx also had visions of the future from time to time.

Due to a love of martial arts and her own Force abilities, Jinyx was able to shapeshift almost instantaneously and push herself to move far faster than most. This gave her the edge in some combat situations. She was qualified above the minimum levels in both blaster pistol and blaster rifle marksmanship.

Her preferred lightsaber form was Djem So with a slight mix of Ataru when in her Drakonus form. She also had some knowledge of Juyo from her time studying with Jade Star. After being reunited with the ghost of her brother, Jinyx became proficient in Jar'Kai.

Jinyx had a natural gift for languages, and could usually get the gist of a language after relatively brief exposure. She spoke Basic, Orhyo, Huttese, and Drachtez fluently.

Appearance and personality[]

In her Human form Jinyx stood 1.78 meters (5'10"). Her skin was a light tan that darkened with even mild sun exposure. Her eyes were a bright grass green that actually glowed due to her power level and the level of trauma she suffered as an infant. She kept her golden hair pulled back into a low pony tail with a pair of braids on each side of her head. In Drakonus form Jinyx was considered somewhat small at only 1.90 meters (6'3"). She had pointed ears and bone colored horns in her head. Her skin color ranged from a darker silver to almost gunmetal.

Jinyx was naturally quiet due to her upbringing. It was not uncommon for her to retreat into her own head to deal with a problem instead of reaching out to another person for help. Her natural empathy compounded with that of her Force abilities caused Jinyx to be cautious and almost timid in social situations. After the ambush by the Impar she became a person who did not like to be physically touched and could even become hostile or short tempered in situations that called for it.

The only two scars Jinyx had were a small line of about three inches below her left wing and a notch taken out of the top of her left ear. Both were received during her ambush by the Impar.
