Kyle Durin Vestar was an Imperial SpecNav Force trooper and Storm Commando who partially defected to the Alliance to Restore the Republic at the Battle of Yavin. In 1 ABY he permanently joined the rebellion.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Kyle Vestar was born on Moorja in 25 BBY to a mining supervisor and a stay-at-home mother. He and his older sister were raised in middle class home on the plains with their father often working the mines some ways away. He was five years old at the time of the Seperatist invasion and the Battle of Moorja. Throughout his youth he excelled at both academic and athletic pursuits, playing Net-ball throughout his school career because of his height. He had several friends, the closest being a female Arkanian Offshoot named Tassana and a human male name Joric.

Imperial Military Career[]

Upon completion of primary school he attended the Imperial Naval Academy and proceeded to TIE Pilot training. Performing impressively in several combat missions, Kyle was selected for the Stormtrooper Corps in 2 BBY, despite his height exceeding the usual standard for the role. It was as a Stormtrooper that Kyle, now a Lieutenant, was sent to Kashyyyk to quell a Wookiee riot. The mission quickly turned for the worst. Within minutes of landing only three members of his squad were alive, with his commander wounded. Several Wookiees were moving toward the officer, Kyle then charged the Wookiees, killing all three and saving his commander's life. For that he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and select for the Storm Commandos and asked to join the SpecNav Force. He went through both training programs. Upon completion of training, he was attached to a Stormtrooper unit complementing the 501st Legion on board the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Devastator over Tatooine. While he didn't participate in the boarding of the Tantive IV, he was part of a detachment sent down the planet to retrieve the missing Death Star plans. He also participated in the defense of an Imperial Listening Post on Rhen Var, after which he received word that he had been reassigned to the Death Star. He was sent to Yavin IV as part of an advanced force, this is where his career as an Imperial commando delayed.

Aren't you a little tall for a Stormtrooper?

After a major firefight in an ancient arena on the moon, he patrolled the structure. As he entered a room, a rebel soldier attempted to snap his neck. Kyle, having dropped his rifle, proceeded in snapping the rebel's neck, but another rebel stood in the room. Kyle quickly picked up the dead soldier's pistol and aimed it at the second rebel, then he realized that it was Tassana, his childhood friend, and the rebel that he had killed was Joric. He and Tassana had a brief conversation that ended with Kyle agreeing to return to the Massassi temple which housed the rebel base with Tassana. At first skeptical about Kyle's intentions, the Alliance leadership allowed him to stay the night at the base. When morning came, Imperial forces, the 501st among them, had begun pressing the attack on the temple itself. Kyle volunteered to fight alongside the Alliance forces, a request that was granted by the leadership, though dubiously. Kyle killed several Imperial troopers in the ensuing battle and evacuation.

Return to the Empire[]

Around 1 ABY, Kyle returned the Imperial Military, although he never officially left. The Empire had assumed that he was captured on Yavin and managed to escape following the ensuing evacuation of the Rebel base. He served mainly as a Storm commando during this time, although he was selected to fly several TIE missions in the Correllian, Tatoo, and Naboo systems. On one such mission he was ordered to fire on and destroy a freighter carrying refugees from several war-torn worlds. He refused to fire and was discharged from the Imperial military.

Alliance Military Career[]

After leaving the Empire for good, he officially joined the Alliance. Kyle quickly established himself as a worthy soldier. He was selected for Alliance Special Forces training. He passed the course with flying colors, mainly due to his past training. He participated in several missions with SpecForce units, including a raid on Felucia that inflicted heavy Imperial casualties. He was eventually stationed on Hoth, where he participated in the ensuing battle. Shortly after the Battle of Hoth, Kyle was involved in an uprising on Mygeeto in which he was one of the few Alliance survivors. He was later inserted to the Forest Moon of Endor in command of a back up squad for General Han Solo's Endor Strike Team. His team assisted Renegade Squadron in diverting Imperial troops so Solo's team could destroy the Imperial shield generator. Kyle received a promotion to Commander after Endor. At twenty-nine years of age, he was still in his prime. He was sent to Cloud City, where he fought in the liberation of the city and later the near by main mining platform. He was assigned to a team that engaged an Imperial force near Kachirho during the liberation of Kashyyyk.

Kyle was deployed during the siege of Coruscant, where he and his team were inserted before the main force as part of Brenn Tantor's advanced force which disrupted Imperial communications. Once the Alliance reformed into the New Republic, Kyle, as well as other SpecForce members, was absorbed into the New Republic Special Forces.

Personality and Traits[]

Kyle is generally a competent and efficient, but often acts in a strange manner. He will occassionally tell jokes that the vast majority of other beings will not understand. Sometimes he may be rather pretentious, but is most often considered an upstanding citizen. He has a tendency to go on for too long about subjects that others wouldn't find very interesting.
