The Koshottoi (/'koʊʃ.oʊ'tɔɪ/ KOHSH-oh-TOY), a Sith compound word meaning "Into the Darkness,"[5][6][7] was a Derriphan-class battleship of the Old Sith Empire[1] that participated in the Great Hyperspace War[8] and the subsequent Sith genocide.[9] Laden with Sith-blooded refugees fleeing the Stygian Caldera,[10] the ship accompanied the other disparate groups of displaced Sith perambulating across the Unknown Regions[11] in search of refugee worlds far from the influence of the Galactic Republic. Eventually, the vessel's crew discovered and traversed the ancient hyperlane known as the Mure-Lehon Bypass, coming at last to the forgotten Rakata fortress world of Mure.
The Koshottoi fell to the surface of the planet after an encounter with the Monolith's energy-resistant ray shields disabled its internal systems and forced a controlled collision. Though the vessel remained mostly intact, it was sufficiently damaged enough to prevent departure from the supercontinent of Lower Mure on which it came to rest. In their attempts to colonize the surrounding verdant landscape, her Sith crew was discovered and ultimately integrated into the primitive Human civilization that spanned the continent. These Humans, descendants of rebellious Infinite Empire Force Hounds, had been engaged in a protracted conflict with the Rakata remnant on Mure for millennia and saw the Sith as a means of finally turning the tide in their favor.
With the advanced Sith weapons stowed aboard the vessel[1] and the aid of the ship's six Blade-class starfighters[3] and two shuttles,[1] the joint Sith-Human coalition forces were able to successfully overcome the vestigial Rakata forces located on the archipelagos of the Encircling Sea, thus ushering in a modern industrial era for the Murese people that ultimately led to a spacefaring age in subsequent centuries. Eventually, the Koshottoi was repaired and restored to her original working condition, serving as the ceremonial flagship of the Murese navy for many ages afterwards.
History
Early history
The Koshottoi began life as a Derriphan-class battleship in service to the Sadowite Sith Lord Shar Dakhan during the Golden Age of the Sith.[12] During the Great Hyperspace War, the vessel was a part of the Sith invasion fleet and participated in the Battle of Coruscant and Second Battle of Korriban.[8] In the subsequent Sith genocide,[9] the ship was used to escort Sith personnel carriers laden with Sith-blooded refugees out of the Stygian Caldera[10] and into the Unknown Regions.[11] Here, they joined a growing number of Sith exiles who had forsaken closer refuge worlds like Thule, Tund, Ambria, and Vjun[11] for more remote systems in uncharted space far from the influence of the Galactic Republic.[11]
Discovery of Mure
Some twenty years after the genocide, several groups of wayward Sith perambulating across the Rakatan Archipelago of the Unknown Regions[13] stumbled upon ancient Rakata records mentioning the Mure-Lehon Bypass. This ancient hyperlane, used in previous millennia to circumvent the Mortis Line hyperspace barrier,[14] connected the capital of Lehon with a long-forgotten Infinite Empire fortress world located in orbit around the North Star. Believing that this stronghold would likely be home to more primitive Rakata like those they had encountered in the Archipelago,[13] the Koshottoi and her crew of 875 Sith[1] traversed the Bypass and came to the extra-galactic Force nexus of Mure.
Planetary landing
Though Koshottoi successfully came to the Five Deaths, the sheer amount of extra-galactic cosmic radiation to which the system was subjected negatively affected the Sith crew aboard their unshielded vessel.[1] They were initially hesitant to attempt a landing upon seeing the Monolith, a Celestial space station that encompassed the planet in a hollow truncated icosahedron and protected its surface with a series of energy shields. Fortunately for these colonists, the particle shields aboard the Monolith were automatically activated only in the event of an incoming asteroid on a collision course and permitted the Sith ships passage to the planet surface. However, on passing through the station's second layer of radiation and energy-resistant ray shields, the Sith transport's power systems were partially disabled, forcing the crew to attempt a controlled crash onto the surface of the galaxy-facing supercontinent of Lower Mure.
