Korratoa was a moon in the Unknown Regions, orbiting a dead planet. It was the jungle home of the shapeshifting En'kah and the predatory Inarii.
Geography[]
Much of En'kah's surface was covered in thick jungles with dense foliage which permitted little light to reach the ground, leaving the jungle floor gloomy even in full sunlight. Though within the habitable zone, Korratoa was distant enough from the system's primary that its light seemed fainter than on most worlds as well. The surface was usually humid and steamy when it was not actively raining. Some seventy-one percent of the planet's surface was water, all but the coastlines unexplored by the En'kah.
Society and culture[]
En'kah tribes exercised some measure of control over Korratoa's surface, though they had to fight for footholds in the jungle against the Inarii and other native predators, and occasionally competed with one another as well. En'kah worship of the male and female deities En'kah'Nahori and Yl'umen Inarii dominated their culture, and various cultural, religious, and superstitious practices emerged in different En'kah societies.
The En'kah practiced a limited form of sentient sacrifice in offering "feral" En'kah—those who could fully shapeshift—to Yl'umen Inarii at the talons of the Inarii predators.
History[]
It was not clear what happened to Korratoa's planet, although xenogeologists speculated it was dead before the En'kah developed sentience. Alien scientists also concluded that sentience itself was a relatively recent development among the En'kah compared to many of the galaxy's other civilizations; xenobiologists from the Golden Empire compared the En'kah to the Athans of Bolera.
The Chiss Ascendancy visited and catalogued both Korratoa and the En'kah some time before 137 ABY, recording both in the Expeditionary Library; Korratoa was recorded under that name, suggesting it was either the most commonly used term by En'kah, or at least the one used where the Chiss landed. Seeing no benefit to interacting with the technologically primitive En'kah, the Chiss otherwise left the world alone.
The Golden Empire first visited Korratoa in 156 ABY in the form of a strike team from the Order of Keltrayu, including Vos'elk'eetash, Luna Raquelsei, and Aria Nikina, and "led" by Novice Azalyn Kass`l. Azalyn had received a vision of the feral En'kah Kavasi being sacrificed, and Rin Sakaros permitted Azalyn and the Centurions to intervene. Azalyn and her protectors managed to rescue Kavasi, killing numerous Inarii along the way, but left the planet without interacting with any other En'kah apart from a few Selkee stunned. Rin elected not to colonize or incorporate Korratoa, leaving the En'kah of Kavasi's tribe mystified at her escape and the rest of the species oblivious to the wider galaxy.
The grove from which Kavasi had been rescued became a place of superstitious dread and reverence among many En'kah.
Behind the scenes[]
Ahrrie created Korratoa, but allowed Sakaros to publish this article to SWFanon on her behalf.
