Klisté Jamillia, born Klisté Sensari, was a member of the Sensari family and the monarch of Naboo from 24 BBY to 20 BBY. She would later be involved in the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Biography[]
Early life (46 BBY to 26 BBY)[]
Klisté Sensari was the second of two children of the few outright arranged marriages seen on Naboo in the 1st century BBY, one of two done between the Sensari and Klistorin family, and it was hoped that the children of these two marriages would prove Force-sensitive. Neither Klisté nor her older sister Motée were, though their parents tried to convince themselves for many years that Klisté was borderline, leading to rumor around those acquainted with the family that she was, even after Thadin Sensari and Feré Klistorin gave up, and divorced.
Klisté funneled her feelings of inadequacy into political ambitions, and was already in a position of authority in the city of Carine at the time of the Trade Federation invasion of Naboo, from where she helped organize the resistance movement, and the reconstruction in the years afterward. She became one of the far side's most popular figures.
Rise to power (25 BBY)[]
At the beginning of 25 BBY, royal handmaiden Eirtaé Lasara was considered locked to win the throne of Naboo, but then Klisté announced her own run, and gained a lot of support. She campaigned hard the entire year, citing her record of good leadership, but also painting her opponent as out of touch with the common people, and allowing people to believe, falsely, that she was indeed borderline Force-sensitive. At the end of the year, she had pulled even with Lasara. In contrast to the previous two elections, both of which had been decided within five minutes, the outcome of this election looked uncertain all throughout the 20-hour voting period, and was not called until nearly five hours after the polls closed, at which time Klisté was declared the winner by a few hundred votes. She was crowned the following year at Queen Jamillia, the second member of her family to sit on the throne.
Queen (24 BBY to 20 BBY)[]
As Queen, Klisté opened Naboo to refugees fleeing seceding worlds elsewhere in the galaxy, a move which earned her fame offworld, but was not entirely popular with her own people; while many people thought it was a good idea, Naboo's commercial interests were not served well. She was finally forced to close Naboo to further refugees after the outbreak of the Clone Wars and the attack on Ohma-D'un. After that she focused her energies on a program to integrate the refugees into Naboo society, appointing Busa Ollan as the first-ever non-human royal adviser.
Even after this attack, Klisté privately expressed some sympathies with the Separatists, wondering if the Republic had spurred the seceding worlds into a war that they did not want. She also secretly believed that the Republic's motives for continuing the war were based on money, which she found dishonorable. Word of this leaked out, and her enemies began an aggressive campaign to discredit her. By 20 BBY popular opinion had turned against her, and she lost her reelection bid.
Involvement in the resistance (20 BBY to 9 BBY)[]
An assassination attempt on her in 19 BBY, much like the one that had killed King Veruna, spurred Klisté out of her initial retirement, and she left Naboo. She went to Motée, who was on Coruscant serving Padmé Amidala as a handmaiden, and she hid her, and kept the knowledge of her being on Coruscant from everyone until the war had ended and Amidala had been killed, at which time she told only Ellé. By then, Klisté had grown convinced that Palpatine was behind the attempt, and Veruna's death, and decided to join the resistance against him. On Motée's advice, she went to Mon Mothma and offered her aid.
Like her sister, Klisté acted as liaison between various resistance groups, associating herself especially with former Separatists. After Motée's arrest in 14 BBY, she went deeper underground as a refugee. In 10 BBY, she was a passenger on the Padmé Amidala. A year later, she was caught and killed.
