Kira Ussej Bac was a human female Jedi Knight who lived during the Hundred-Year Darkness, the first war between the Jedi Order and the Jedi Exiles who became the first Lords of the Sith. She hailed from Alderaan and was taken into the Jedi Order at a young age, after the death of her parents. Bac, a healer with the heightened ability to sense and connect with the emotions of others, served mostly in logistical support roles during the war. She provided operational support for the battle that became known as the Tragedy at Ilum, which left her shaken.

Biography

Kira Ussej Bac was born on Alderaan in 6,925 BBY, during the Hundred-Year Darkness, to Padric and Talia Bac. Her parents were killed when she was an infant, so Kira was briefly raised by her grandparents. She had one cousin, Ahdam Bac, whom she had never met as of 6,903 BBY.

As a toddler, Kira was discovered to have an affinity to the Force and was taken in by the Jedi Order for training. When she came of age, Kira was given a battlefield commission as a Jed Knight—the Jedi at the time eliminated the rank of Padawan due to war-time desperation in the fight against the Jedi Exiles—but rarely saw battle herself. Most of her time was spent working in operational logistics for the Jedi and the Republic, when it was still involved in the war effort. These assignments were typically mundane, and Kira felt some guilt for not being part of the war when so many other Jedi and soldiers were risking their lives.

As the war raged, Grand Master Syresh Lapar betrayed the Jedi and became the leader of the Jedi Exiles in an event that became known as the Tragedy at Ilum. Kira and her fellow operational Jedi were left stunned. Kira believed she supported a massacre. Most in her position were able to move on or find some sort of absolution for their involvement, but Kira remained shaken. Unable to effectively discharge her duties, Kira was given a brief leave of absence from her primary role and undertook a journey of self-discovery to find her inner peace.

Personality and traits

Kira was a healer and so her preference in war was to focus on healing, rather than killing. She had a deep emotional connection to the Force that allowed her to feel the emotions of others. This helped her understand other people but would sometimes be a burden, with emotions that could overwhelm her. This was particularly true in times of war, and was only heightened by the Tragedy at Ilum.

Powers and abilities

Like most Jedi of her era, Kira was trained in the midst of war without the formal apprenticeship of Jedi generations past. With limited battlefield experience, however, her combat skills were honed mostly in training scenarios and practice. Formal application and testing of her skills with a lightsaber were few and far between.

Kira preferred to focus on the Force as opposed to a lightsaber. Her connection to the Force manifested itself in two primary ways. One was her connection to the emotions of others, and the other was her powers of healing, an ability she embraced and took a liking to from an early age. This trait helped her be at ease in logistical support roles, feeling that while she was supporting necessary acts of violence she was not directly participating in them. Most of her limited battlefield experience was for healing.

Behind the scenes

Kira Ussej Bac is a character created by Brandon Rhea for The First Sith, the seventh role-playing timeline on TheStarWarsRP.Com. She is a rebooted version of Ussej Padric Bac, a character by Rhea that existed in the old SWRP canon prior to its continuity reboot. The name Kira was inspired by the original name for Rey, which was changed during the filming of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
