Though obvious the pain in others might be Teeyan, affliction must first be explored by the individual if true healing is to take place.
—Kentell Leknar speaking with Padawan Teeyan Nuc on the principles of free will
Kentell Leknar was a human, Iktotchi hybrid. Due the unaccepted union of her parents, she and her family were banished from their community and heritage, forced to live outside society, within the Iktotch wilderness. At a young age Leknar displayed remarkable abilities, one of which was an uncanny aptitude for telepathy; which in due time was noticed by a Jedi master named Hariah Vainarh. Upon Hariahs arrival and with her parents blessing Leknar freely left with the Jedi master to begin training as a Jedi on Coruscant. Although Kentell quickly rose in skill, she struggled with deep insecurities, and at times uncontrollable empathy. Early in her training she was said to have formed a detrimental habit of reading the minds of those around her in attempts to heal the brokenness she would sense within; this manipulation despite its compassionate intentions was immediately halted by the elders in the Order. In spite of the scars from this set back Kentell fast became a formidable and well accomplished Jedi, competing her trials after saving the life’s of a number of refuges who had been taken captive by a Yuuzhan Vong pirate; one of the life’s, being that of her master. Leknar went on to earn the ranks of both Jedi Weapon Master and Jedi Healer; she also accomplished many missions and trials. Kentell went on to mentor several Padawan and upon her solo victory at the seven suns halo, was granted the rank of High Jedi General.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Kentell Leknar was a human-Iktotchi hybrid; her home world was Iktotch, the neighbouring moon of Iktotchon. The union between her parents caused a rift within her father’s native clan, and for this reason Kentell along with her mother and father were taken far away from their ancestral community of Ubarack; leaving Leknar to be raised deep in the Bechknar wilderness. As Leknar grew she began to display remarkable abilities in telepathy, far superior to that of a full blood Iktotchi. Along with these abilities it was discovered she also shared the Iktotchis brute strength, yet due to being partly human she was not hampered by an Iktotchis bulk frame, adding in her dexterity. Although the appearance of theses talents might have been explained partly due to a natural occurrence from interspecies relations, her parents sensed that their child’s gifts were rooted in something more wonderful, far beyond being merely biological.
Visions[]
When Kentell Leknar was very young she began having regular visions of a robed individual who appeared to continually try and communicate with her. Although at first the context of the visions seemed to have eluded Leknar, eventually it was discovered that Leknar herself was found to be the one calling out to the illusive figure. As each vision became more frequent, Leknar retained a sense of peace, feeling at ease with the frequent nature of the visions and the unexplained sense of purpose with which she gained from them.
The last of the visions Leknar experienced involved her leaving her body, and for a period of time she was said to have astral planed to a distant star system. During this vision Leknar felt a strong yet puzzling urge to leave her home world of Iktotch to join a much larger community; it was thought this community would somehow help to make sense of her abilities. Just before the conclusion of the vision, Leknar found herself in her physical body again standing beside the hooded individual. The figure looked down and explained to Leknar that he had sensed her presence for quite some time and had been receiving her subconscious cries; he then asked her if she might come with him and discover her true destiny, to which Leknar agreed. Awaking from the dream it became clear to Leknar what was needed of her, and she immediately began preparing for the individuals arrival. Though it’s believed she could not fully understand why, Leknar felt a strong desire and responsibility to trust her feelings.
Before too long, a small republic transport cruiser arrived not far from the Iktotchi family camp and Leknar’s parents were greeted by a Jedi Master, Hariah Vainarh. Master Vainarh explained to Leknar’s parents the reason for his visit. Leaving no detail out Vainarh was clear about his desire for Leknar to be trained as a Jedi. Even though Vainarh was confident that the Force was guiding the outcome of his appointment, he was nonetheless surprised at Leknar’s parent’s honest blessing and enthusiasm for their daughter to leave. Leaving her only family and culture behind on Iktotch, Leknar left with Master Hariah Vainarh to begin her training on Coruscant.
Training[]
Vainarh: “Kentell, supporting inner discovery is more important than simply giving one back their sight.”
―Kentell Leknar and Master Vainarh discuss the torment of a fallen Jedi
During her training, Kentell Leknar fast became a commendable pupil, excelling at whatever was put before her. Although being skilled and naturally talented with her Force abilities, Leknar fought with secret struggles, some of which were: severe empathy and physical insecurity.
Although its known the Iktotchi naturally have the gifting of telepathy, the advancement of Leknar’s own ability was said to have been extraordinary. This however brought with it some debilitating consequences; not only was she able to communicate and read thoughts, she was able to delve deep into the subconscious mind, forcibly releasing an individual’s inner turmoil and secrets. This apparently made her desire to repair the brokenness in those around her at times unbearable; upon becoming a Padawan this evident weakness seemed to turn more toward frustration, as she felt her ability’s were being restricted by Jedi teaching. This hindrance however was partially controlled with the help of her Jedi Master, Hariah Vainarh; who was deemed appropriate by the council as a Master for the young padawan due to their previous connection and her obvious difficulties.
Master Hariah Vainarh helped Leknar to see that individuals need not be forced into realizing their pain, with some gentle guidance and free will, the truth can be found to have more purpose when it is discovered by the one who truly needed to see it. Although leknar gained new insight and understanding into the use of her abilities, residual bitterness towards certain Jedi theological principles remained with her, and caused constant tension, albeit hidden.
Vo Quorik[]
Kentell Leknar: “The conduct of slavery is hardly revolutionary pirate, yet if you manage to sequence your saber techniques half as well as you do your sentences, you may be in with a chance.”
―Vo Quorik and Kentell Leknar
Kentell Leknar’s first close combat experience with a lightsaber wielder took place during her Jedi trials. She and Master Vainar were sent to inspect a refugee transport cruiser that had gone missing in the Corellian System. It was during this mission that Kentell Leknar was faced by the Yuuzhan Vong pirate named, Vo Quorik.
Vo Quorik, though apparently having no knowledge of the Living Force was versed in the art of lightsaber combat and wielded two crimson saber’s. After capturing her Jedi master along with the missing refugees in several ray-shields, Vo Quorik engaged Kentell Leknar. Though Vo Quorik was a ruthless and intimidating opponent, the Jedi’s sheer skill and speed was more than a match for the pirate and the Yuuzhan Vongs demise was quick and successful.
Torn passions[]
Kentell Leknar: “Master, if that is what needs to be faced in order to give the suffering a chance at life, then I'm better off to them dead!”
―A Jedi Master orders Kentell Leknar to leave possible survivors behind during a planets nuclear winter cycle
Shortly after Kentell Leknar was knighted her gifting with a lightsaber was noticed by a key number of high Jedi masters. These masters chose to mentor her farther and through their personal tutelage Kentell Leknar in time rose to the highest rank of Jedi Weapon Master. Although Kentell Leknar excelled within the rank, she often felt torn between the prestige’s class and her secret passion for the humanitarian role of Jedi Healer. The two ranks seemingly incompatibly became a drive and focus for the young Jedi Knight; who was devoted at making the dream a reality. In time her compassionate urge eventually brought her to be awarded the rank of Jedi Healer after her actions on the planet Rynexi. Rynexi was a peaceful world whose inhabitants were experiencing a devastating nuclear winter; which arose once every four thousand years. Kentell Leknar was part of a small band of Jedi, dispatched to gather what inhabitants could be found, and transporting them to a refugee station on Coruscant. As the storm grew increasingly hazardous, all Jedi were eventually ordered to evacuate the planet with what survivors they had rescued. Kentell Leknar however disobeyed the direct order, choosing instead to stay behind; barricading herself along with a group of injured in a cave. The Jedi along with the injured inhabitants were said to have been trapped for over fifty seven hours. Although initially feared dead, Kentell, barely able to walk, along with the survivors were found once the storm had subsided; Kentell Leknar had used the Force to heal and sustain her injured companions throughout the entire ordeal.
Seven suns halo[]
You are merely a program, yet you are using the force to commune? Amazing…
—Kentell Leknar communicating with artificial intelligence aboard the ancient seven sons halo device
The Seven Suns halo was an ancient moon sized device within the Terbia-maze system thought to have been created by a forgotten civilization which some believe to have been the same race responsible for hyperdrive technology. The device was stationed deep in the Denexi Nebular where it is said to have held together a cluster of seven planets. The device emitted an unknown type of radiation which is said to have made three out of the seven planets habitable, the device effectively creating it's own solar system. The device itself was said to have been extremely old had apparently shown no signs of cosmological decay.
During the clone wars Leknar was chosen for a solo reconnaissance mission, sent by the Jedi high counsel to investigate the separatists growing interest in the machine. During her mission Leknar discovered that the separatists together with an unidentified species where in the final stages of deciphering the ancient secrets behind the devices nature. It wasn’t long before the two parties’ had broken through the halos outer layers and made their way into its interior.
It was found that the radiation which the machine produced was capable of being completely manipulated and modified on a stellar scale simply by using controls which were said to have been incased within the structure. Some believe this technology could have been one of the most valuable and or dangerous discoveries in the galaxy’s history, effectively having the power to either liberate or destroying dying worlds.
The separatists along with the illusive species were small in number and had very little security accompanying them, suggesting that thier occupation was possibly being kept hidden from others within separatists ranks. Although the military strength was relatively small and would have been a rather easy task for a band of skilled Jedi, it was still seen as an exceptional number for one master to take on alone.
Surprisingly Leknar managed to penetrate the machines artificial atmosphere undetected and successfully eluded hundreds of battle droids before reaching the halos internal entry point. The Jedi soon discovered the separatist leaders and appeared to have cornered them, foiling their plot. However to her own surprise Leknar was captured from behind and restrained by two biomechanical arms, the appendages seem to have belonged to the ancient device which the separatist and their companions where somehow managing to control. The Jedi was thrown into a holding sell, unconscious and injured. When Leknar came to she discovered that the intruders were only partially in control of the device, managing to restrain and manipulate only a small percentage of the control rooms security equipment.
While Leknar meditated in the holding cell, quieting her mind in order to recuperate, she discovered something unexpected. The ancient device was found to be somehow operating by means of an artificial intelligence, which appeared to communicate telepathically. This entity communed with Leknar using the force, explaining its purpose. It informed the Jedi that its function was to scan and clone uninhabited/dying worlds along with other planets and moons, creating and relocating whole systems deep into the recesses of space. It’s believed the devices construction went ahead after a vast galactic war ravaged many worlds. The device would reanimate and sustain the dying worlds, making them suitable for sentient beings and other forms of life. Once a system of planets was established and life forms successfully transported, the device would seemingly implode upon itself, leaving behind an artificial energy signature which operated much like a sun. Once the physical shell of the device was destroyed the internal intelligence was transmitted throughout the galaxy to other similar dormant devices, activating them and continuing the process again.
Once Leknar conveyed to the entity of the intruder’s true intentions it immediately suspended the separatists curious exploration, rendering them along with their battle droids unconscious with high frequency sound waves. It was apparently at this time that the Jedi became aware of the devices immanent termination, the entity informing Leknar that it was within its final stages of retransmission. The entity transported the Jedi along with her transport and the unconscious separatists to a near by habitable planet before dematerializing into a sphere of radiation.
Upon receiving her mission update while stationed on Kashyyyk, Master Yoda along with two other Jedi master's granted Leknar the rank of High Jedi General. After her promotion had taken place Leknar was ordered to rendezvous with master Plo koon on Cato Neimoidia; It was at this time unbeknownst to Leknar that order sixty six had been within its beginning stages.
Arriving at Cato Neimoidia[]
Upon arriving at Cato Neimoidia, Leknar found herself in the middle of the clone’s betrayal. Through the Force she attempted to communicate with the Jedi who were stationed on the planet including Master Plo Koon but was forced to face the reality of her brethren's demise. Leknar’s ship was immediately exposed by a squadron of clone troopers and contacted; the clone commander, Broil, demanding to know the reason for the ships presence. Using the Force Leknar persuaded her separatist prisoner’s to command the ship and its communications; informing the squadron of their voluntary surrender.
Leknar’s ship was boarded by Commander Broil and two other troopers, who found the separatist prisoner's bound and gagged. Before they were able to survey the area Leknar suspended the commander with the Force and propelled the other two into the side of the ship, rendering the clones unconscious. Using her telepathy Leknar influenced the Commander; convincing him that he was under strict orders to escort the separatist's out of the battle zone to a Republic Starship. Once the directive had been issued Leknar took control of the ship. Leaving the atmosphere of Cato Neimoidia, the Jedi used the hyper drive to travel deep into the krektunian system. Leknar concealed the clones along with the separatists into an escape pod, and once she was within krektunian space the Jedi expelled the pod along with its occupants.
Destruction on Kessel[]
Around that time Leknar received a transmission from the Jedi temple indicating that the war had finished; calling for all Jedi to return to Courasant. However after witnessing the events on Cato Neimoidia, Leknar was not convinced that the message was genuine. The Jedi master stretched out with the Force in an attempt to communicate with any surviving Jedi.
While witnessing at a distance the mascara that was still underway at the Jedi temple, Master Shadday Potkin sensed Leknar’s thoughts, and through the Force the two were able to commune. Shadday Potkin extended an invitation for Leknar to meet with other surviving Jedi at an abandoned spice mine on the planet Kessel, to which leknar accepted. Master Potkin including a number of the other Jedi were able to communicate at unsystematic intervals with Leknar by means of operating an unused surveyor’s com channel in which the group informed Leknar of their plot. The band of Jedi was attempting to lure the Emperors apprentice “Darth Vader”; they aimed to gather the Jedi together as a means of bating the Sith Lord. Another tactic used by Shadday Potkin was to leak the falsified information of the Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s presence amongst them; as it was believed Darth Vader was in desperate search of him. Before Leknar was to meet with the Jedi on Kessel she seized communication of all kind with her brethren; momentarily severing her Force connection as not to hamper the secrecy of the Jedi’s plan.
However upon arriving in the Kessel sector of the Outer Rim Territories, Leknar sensed a disturbance in the Force; her fears realized as she discovered the occupation of Republic ships at the rendezvous point on Kessel. Leknar was too late. sensing that her companions life’s had faded and realizing her inability to sway the tide of the confrontation, she fled the system, jumping to hyper space moments after being detected.
Personality and traits[]
Balanced in the Force Leknar is, strength and skill I sense, yet stillness and compassion also she has.
—Jedi master Yoda
Due to the segregation enforced by the elders of her fathers tribe Kentell, at a very early age had no contact with other Iktotchi. Apart from her two parents, Kentells only other early interaction was believed to have been with the creatures that inhabited the surrounding area of the Bechknar forest region, to which she was said to have grown a strong connection with.
Upon becoming introduced to the large community within the Jedi Order the results of her previous isolation from other peers become apparent. Leknar was believed to have become withdrawn and insecure around other younglings. In time it seemed Kentell was integrating well, making friends and begining to interact socially; yet this apparently was not to last for long. Due to her strong telepathic abilities and prevalent struggle with acceptance, Kentell on a few occasions would examine the secret thoughts of others. Manipulating key aspects of her fellow padawuns inner fears and torments, it’s believed she thought she was doing them an act of kindness. This behaviour was discovered and Kentell learned fast that the practice was unacceptable. Kentell was said to have gained control over this natural tendency, growing more focused, however to some degree it was something that plagued her for the remainder of her life.
Due to past social failures Kentell was believed to have become more introverted in respects to her intimate friendships. Although Kentell was said to have been well respected throughout the entire Order and intern had various networks with other Jedi, she only chose a small number of close acquaintances.
Kentell Leknar was said to have had a strong sense of what was right, even when her moral compass conflicted with her Jedi teaching. She displayed an Iron will; when given a task she would give her all, no matter what it was that would be faced. Hard pressed she was a determined Jedi, motivated and focused to perform beyond her means. Its known Kentell also held a great desire for the needs of other less fortunate life forms and apparently spent a great deal of her time assisting in the relocation and rehabilitation of war torn species.
Lightsaber and fighting form[]
When the time came for Leknar to be placed under a Master, advancing from Initiate to Padawan, she chose a more individualized approach to her Saber style and fighting form. Leknar altered an ancient ritualistic form of sword play as her signature stance. This form was taken from the Iktotchi ritual of, “Sharageth Nem-a-noot Cet” “Praise Be to the Creator Spirit”. This ritual was a sacred form of worship the elders in Iktotchi tribes would participate in upon the first harvest, after the birth of a new tribe member. To the untrained eye this fighting form might seem erratic, having no real appeal as a graceful and elegant parry, yet it was believed to be extremely refined and intricate. As well as her fighting form, Leknar’s Lightsaber was said to have been equally unique. Paying homage to her Iktotchi heritage Leknar fashioned a hilt out of the one single possession brought back with her from her home world, her “Shemook”. The Shemook was a "New life blessing" statuette given at birth containing the claw of the extinct “Temarata”, a creature which once roamed Iktotch. Kentell became a skilful Lightsaber wielder and was said to have been personally regarded by Jedi Master Mace Windu as a “cunning warrior”.
Force ability[]
Kentell Leknar was said to have been a formidable Force user; her abilities earlier on in her training being more fluid than that of other Jedi. Although she was naturally talented and appeared to command the Force with great ease one of Leknar’s more prevalent flaws appeared to lay not in her connection with the Force but with her lack of self control and capacity to implement appropriate barriers and guides within the expression of her gifting. Leknar’s physical prowess with the Force was immense and recognised by many Jedi within the council; Leknar was able to command the Force to perform vast acrobatic acts including a concentrated Force jump that incorporated a measurable amount of levitation. Force projection was also a strength of Leknar’s as was here ability to communicate telepathically over vast distances, but perhaps the most revered ability of Leknar’s was her talent in Force speed.
Other abilities[]
Due to the result of both her human and iktotchi heritage Leknar had many naturally occurring abilities, unrelated to the Force, which complemented her and melded well with that of her skill in the Force. Although Leknar had a more slender frame then that of a full blooded iktochi she managed to maintain their brute strength while also acquiring the added trait of flexibility and dexterity from her human side. Leknar also shared the iktochi’s telepathic capability.
Behind the scenes[]
Kentell Leknar was a creation by the Fanon wiki user Corron Zenith in 2008-2009. The character was firstly designed as a main character within the story arch of the article Alpha Saber. In creating the personality of Kentell the author drew inspiration from several sources such as: the blind Seeress “Theresa” in the 2008 video game Fable II, the Jedi Bastila Shan in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith while also including facets of the author's own personality.
Despite the fact that Kentell’s secret struggles may appear as an “Anakin Skywalker insecurity” cliché they were mostly drawn out of the author’s personal experience and peer observations. The author felt the idea of having greatness thrust upon an individual having little to no preparation by which to fully grasp the vastness of their situation was a fascinating one and chose to flesh it out with Kentell’s character. The combination of a personality riddled with fear, insecurity, immense power, responsibility and compassion whilst living the life of a Jedi was an area that the author felt had a lot of room with which to move and develop in.
At one stage the character was going to die at a relatively young age however, the author decided to prolong the Jedi’s life to delve into the characters flaws and strengths as a way of giving more detail and life to her personal journey and legacy.
