Kam Zanabi was a highly skilled technician who worked for the the Rebel Alliance and later the New Republic. Due to being raised amongst a number of alien species associated with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Kam was fluent in Pak Pak, the Geonosian language, Skakoverbal, was capable of understanding the Muun and Givin languages and could write in Skakoform.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Kam was the son of CIS engineer Imara Zanabi and the assassin Mina Horigata Zanabi, who had managed to escape from the Republic along with a group of others in a BC-714 luxury transport. As a child, he was trained to become an engineer, just like his father. His high IQ helped him in his training. He was not only trained by his father, but also by the other CIS technicians and engineers. When he was 16, his father purchased a Muurian transport that they dubbed the Nighthawk.

Rebel Alliance[]

Tired with the domineering rule of the Empire, Kam attempted to seek out the Rebel Alliance in order to join them. When he finally found them, they were hesitant to allow him to join. They eventually conceded and sent him to pick up three PD-series protocol droids. He picked up the droids, PD-F7, PD-G3 and PD-J9 but also bought a droid that had been severely damaged in a "shipping accident". On the way back to the Rebel base, Kam not only repaired the minor damages of the protocol droids, but he was also able to repair the broken one, although he was unable to find it a suitable head. Kam named the droid Goggle.

Battle of Kashyyyk[]

Kam was later sent to the planet Kashyyyk, stationed at an abandoned oil refinery that had been used during the Clone Wars. When a Rebel listening post had been discovered not far away from the oil refinery and attacked, Kam and the other rebels posted at the refinery attempted to aid them. However, the sheer numbers of the Imperials forced them to retreat back to the refinery. The Imperials pursued them back. Kam attempted to contact Goggle to tell him to bring the Nighthawk while the others fought back the Imperials. The other survivors, consisting of Kolm Nnaut, Chessa Oto, Tendra Derris, Adrath Gaar and Segano Melan all held off the Imperials for as long as they were able, but Adrath and Kolm were incapacitated during the attack and Chessa abandoned her post to help Kolm. With only Tendra and Segano left to defend the post, the Imperials soon managed to get past the first defensive wall the rebels had set up. However, Goggle arrived with the Nighthawk as the Imperials began breaching the sea wall. Kolm however was badly injured and the others had trouble getting him to the ship. To buy them time, Segano held the Imperials off by himself, dual wielding a blaster rifle and an incinerator rifle. The others managed to get Kolm aboard the ship before Segano was overrun by the Imperials. Before he died, he activated a thermal detonator which killed a large number of Imperials. Kam was shocked by Segano's act of incredible bravery. He and the others were given medals for bravery following the battle.

Training[]

Shortly after the events of Kashyyyk, it was discovered that Kam, Tendra, Chessa and Kolm had no previous combat experience or training (Adrath having briefly spent time in the Doph military). In order to correct this, the four were sent to a training camp on the planet Palanhi. While there, Kam and the others were placed under the command of the Ulaq Aqualish sergeant, Eno Dagger. They were also joined by the Human brothers, Doolie and Harbie Rain. Dagger told them that they would be placed in an exercise which involved collecting a number of flags scattered in a 12 kilometer radius. To add to the difficulty, they were to be pitted against assassin droids, booby traps, SpecForce soldiers, competing teams and were only given limited supplies. Tension soon arose due to Kam and Harbie's refusal to cooperate with each other. The group also lost precious time when Kam and Kolm found themselves victim to the traps, Kam being ensnared in a tree while Kolm fell into a pit. However, the exercise was soon cut short when Imperials, who were alerted to the camp by a spy, arrived and began capturing all present. Forced to flee, the team soon found themselves surrounded by Imperials, only to be saved by the sudden arrival of Dagger and a number of assassin droids. However, while Kam and the other's fled, Harbie opted to remain behind and help Dagger. While Doolie and Chessa wished to retrieve him, Kam, Kolm and Tendra managed to persuade them to leave. The group managed to escape by boarding a GR-75 Medium Transport. They later learned that Dagger and Harbie had been captured and sentenced to life imprisonment on the spice mines of Kessel.

Further service[]

Kam Zanabi: “Lapti nek, kiv ba ha top wep jex pi va bep. Lapti nek, rat a ran wim joct co jeppi quaff.
Kharrus Donita: “I'm sorry, but are you singing while you're planting those detpacks?
Kam Zanabi: “Yep, I like this song.
Kharrus Donita: “I swear you are the strangest Human I have ever met.
―Kam Zanabi and Kharrus Donita while Kam attaches detpacks to the underside of a Lamda-class shuttle

Kam participated in the Battle of Red Rock, where he manned a 1.4 FD P-Tower laser cannon and managed to cut down a large number of Imperial troops, including three AT-STs. When the rebels were forced to retreat, he planted some mines to hold off the Imperials. This killed 14 further stormtroopers. He was also present for the Battle of Restuss, where he donned Crusader MK II armor and utilized a T2-B repulsor tank. Using it, he managed to destroy a barricade that the Imperials had set up and killed two stormtrooper squads. When it was damaged to the point of immobilization, he abandoned it and used a shotgun to kill several more Imperial soldiers. He was one of the soldiers that ambushed Admiral Grot, and claimed that he had been the one to finish him, although evidence suggested that that was a lie. He survived the destruction of the city by taking refuge behind a downed AT-TE. Kam was later stationed on Hoth, where he kept the droids, turrets and vehicles in functioning order. When the planet came under siege from the Empire, Kam was quickly transported off the planet. He was sent to the rebel's XQ2 Platform near the Brint-wo Colony. While there, Kam repaired the droids and vehicles. When the hospital was attacked, Kam escaped on the Nighthawk. Kam participated in the First Battle of Abridon, where he received a blaster shot to the shoulder, although most of the damage was blocked by his armor. A few days later, the planet was attacked, sparking the Second Battle of Abridon. Although Kam managed to slice his way into an AT-PT and take out three 74-Z speeder bikes and one AT-AA, he was forced to abandon the vehicle when it took too much damage. When it became apparent that the rebel forces could not win, Kam and a few remaining soldiers began a retreat. He aided a wounded trooper by supporting him, along with another soldier. He was at the Battle of Dubrillion, in one of the CR90 Corvettes. He took a gunner's position and shot down several missile droids. During the first few months of 4 ABY, Kam sent Goggle out to spy on the Black Sun. A few weeks later, Goggle returned with an injured Mandalorian. Goggle claimed to have befriended the Mandalorian, Vok Tiran and wanted him to get medical attention. Kam supported Goggle and convinced the others to allow Vok to receive medical aid. Kam gave Vok his spare set of Crusader MK II armor and a CloakShape fighter. A few weeks later, he was called to Mygeeto to reprogram an army of battle droids that the rebels on Mygeeto had been given. Kam was surprised to learn that it was Vok who had donated the droids. Kam was later part of the rebel task force that was sent to liberate Bespin. Shortly in to the battle, he and a group of others stormed a walkway. However, a stormtrooper threw a grenade at them. Noticing the danger, Kam attempted to move out of the way, but the grenade exploded before he could fully remove himself from the explosion range. He survived the explosion, but it sent him flying off the walkway. He broke both of his legs and several ribs when he crashed into the ground. Luckily for him, Goggle came across his body and carried him to safety. Kam was flown off of Bespin via the Nighthawk to a EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate, where his wounds were tended to. When the second Death Star was destroyed, Kam was on Tatooine. He lead the inhabitants of Mos Eisley during the uprising and managed to destroy the Imperials weapons stockpile. Once the battle was over, he took command of an AT-AR and used it to patrol the streets of Mos Eisley.

New Republic[]

My ship! That! Was! My! Ship!
—Kam Zanabi after the destruction of the Nighthawk, punctuating the last four words with shotgun blasts

Kam later served in the New Republic, being promoted to captain. He fought in the Battle of Mindor, leading his company against Cronal's shadow stormtroopers, donning customized Model 210 personal armor to replace his battle damaged crusader armor. However, almost immediately after landing, the Nighthawk was destroyed by a shadow stormtrooper wielding a PLX-2M portable missile launcher. Enraged at this, Kam went into a berserker fury, slaughtering a number of blackhole troopers, much to the shock of his soldiers. The battle proved to be hard on the New Republic and they suffered heavy casualties. During the battle, the majority of Kam's soldiers were killed, with only 37 of his original 144 soldiers surviving. Once the battle was over, Kam took a berserker rifle from a dead stormtrooper and used it as a secondary weapon to his shotgun.

Tendra Derris: “Hey Kam, how about this ship? It's a Starlight-class light freighter.
Kam Zanabi: “I make it a point not to buy ships that look like weapons, especially giant axes.
―Kam Zanabi and Tendra Derris while Kam searches for a new ship

Following Mindor, Kam went searching for a new ship, accompanied by Tendra Derris. While searching, he turned down a Starlight-class light freighter, a TL-1200 Transport and a MC18 light freighter, before finally settling on a YU-410 light freighter, because of its armor, large cargo hold and weaponry. He named his new ship the Nebula.

Liberation of Coruscant[]

During the Battle of Coruscant in 6 ABY, Kam was placed in command of an Attack Armor Company, consisting of 16 Rebel attack tanks. Using the tanks, Kam and his forces managed to cut down a number of Imperial infantry and light walkers with moderate casualties. Eventually, Kam and the other New Republic forces fought their way to the Imperial Palace, where Kam disembarked his tank to fight alongside the other soldiers.
