Juroden Tovering was a male Cerean Jedi Sentinel living after the Great Sith War. Trained at the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine, he eventually was granted Mastery and became the teacher of Meetra Surik, a female Human.
Tovering faced criticism by his fellow Jedi Masters, such as Vrook Lamar, who accused him of "refusing to properly discipline" his headstrong Padawan. In spite of this, Surik went on to become a Jedi Knight and, like her Master, a Sentinel.
As the Jedi Order began to be polarized over the issue of the Mandalorian Wars, Master Tovering kept himself aloof from debate. His former apprentice, however, was persuaded to join Revan's interventionist Jedi Crusade. Believing that Tovering was sympathetic but afraid to speak out, Surik tried to convince him to join as well, only to hear him confess that he sided with the Jedi High Council, opposing intervention. In the ensuing argument, he warned her that she would regret entering the war, while she denounced him as a coward and a false Jedi. The next day Surik left Dantooine to join the Crusade, and the two never spoke again.
Over a decade later, after being exiled from the Order, Surik related her last conversation with Tovering to her companion Mical. Contrary to her Master's warning, she claimed to have no regrets about the Mandalorian Wars.
Tovering's fate is unknown, but he is assumed to have been killed in either the Second Sith War or the subsequent Jedi Purge.
Behind the scenes[]
Master Tovering is an elaboration on the Exile's Master from Knights of the Old Republic II, in which the character is referenced sparingly and goes unnamed.
