...Senator Rose has put her boot on the throat of every other senator brave enough to talk to her...
—Khofin of Knylenn about Jendaya's diplomatic approach
Jendaya Rose (/dʒɛnˈdaɪ.jə ˈroʊz/) was a female Corellian Human politician during the New Sith Wars. She was widely considered one of the greatest orators and most influential politicians in the Republic, though her political style and distinctly Corellian bent earned her as many enemies as friends.
Biography[]
Corellia First[]
Jendaya was born the daughter of a hyperdrive coil fabricator and a veterinary technician, and spent hours in the factory with her father. Her elder brother and sister-in-law were lower middle class workers; Jendaya was close with her brother and doted on her niece, Kiteya.
In 1,388 BBY, she was elected to the Galactic Senate for the Corellian sector. She sat on both the Senate Military Oversight Committee and the Senate Action Subcommittee for the Defense of the Corellian Run and was a vocal advocate for pro-Corellian policies and a persistent critic of the Galactic Republic's tendency to rely on Corellian military forces and production facilities. Her chief of staff was experienced political operative Braddick Haan, while Satir Solo, nephew of Corellia's king, was one of her political advisors. She had a brief relationship with Corellian Jedi Knight Mali Darakhan, but distance and their competing responsibilities caused them to break up, though they remained friends.
As Vedya Gasald and her forces occupied Gamor, Rose and Senator Fraaki Lambed of Duro proposed a preemptive assault on nearby Allanteen Six to prevent Gasald from obtaining the Allanteen Six shipyards. After the assassination of Supreme Chancellor Phnyong, Senator Rose, acting on the guidance of Corellia's Diktat, met with Mali and persuaded him to advocate the election of Corellian Jedi Master Nawsa Arodion to the Jedi High Council. She took a meeting with Senators Refni Ik'lakt of Caamas and Jerex Antilles of Alderaan and Master Nulu Thini, at which she pledged that Corellia would respect the outcome of the vote.
True to her word, Jendaya remained loyal to Supreme Chancellor Thini, but when Gasald did take Allanteen, Corellia began to reassess the benefits of remaining in the Republic. Jendaya advocated hard for Mali's counterinvasion of Milagro, first with the Corellian Council to support it and then with the Senate to funnel him resources. She also negotiated trade deals with the Tapani sector and Duro in exchange for their military support. In late 1,386 BBY she journeyed to Milagro personally to assess Corellia's investments and attend a ceremony in honor of Mali.
The Conscription Act[]
After Satir and Galera Solo were assassinated on Commenor, Jendaya returned to Corellia for the funeral, where she delivered an eulogy for Satir. King Jedossen e Solo thought it was the most stirring oration he had ever heard, but Jedi Grand Master Tem-Fol-Rytil thought it was carefully calculated to encourage any Corellian faction, including those blaming the Republic for the Solos' murders.
When a number of Rim systems first proposed a Conscription Act in a SMOC subcommittee, Jendaya was open to the idea, but determined to exempt worlds based on existing contributions, including Corellia. However, Senators Khrys Fenesto and Gelrosto Wol-sed rallied enough support to pass a bill with no exemptions from the subcommittee, over Jendaya's objections. At Nawsa Arodion's request, Jendaya and Nach Drydon allowed the bill to leave the full committee, but only because they planned a greater coup in the full Senate.
After the defeat of Valin Aresh, Jendaya and two Corellian Imperial Guards delivered Mali's first-class Corellian Bloodstripes, and Jendaya hosted a reception for him at the Corellian embassy on Coruscant, where she rallied allies for her position on the Conscription Act. When it came up for debate, Jendaya delivered her "Have You No Shame?" speech which became instantly famous on Coruscant and across the Republic. As a result, Tesunu Banardi of Obroa-skai—originally in the "Universalist" camp with Fenesto and Wol-sed—proposed Jendaya's own amendment to the full Senate, where it passed. Conscription itself became law shortly thereafter.
Amidst victory revelries, Jendaya set her eyes on political retribution against the Universalists, engendering further hatred from their camp. Morid Dosio provided details of her tour of the Iseno sector to what he thought were assassins, but was really the Brotherhood of Shadows, enabling Darth Alecto to have her kidnapped on Denon. Arodion come to her rescue, as Alecto had predicted, and the Sith Lord and Jedi Master fought a duel which ended in Arodion's death; true to her word, Alecto let Rose go thereafter.
At the Brink[]
Jendaya received treatment for shoulder strain from being suspended by her wrists for hours; bacta healed most of her injuries, though she still required physical therapy and temporarily wore a sling. She attended Nawsa Arodion's funeral on Corellia and spent that night with Mali, though both were clear that it was not a rekindling of their relationship. The following evening, she participated in a meeting of Corellian leaders trying to decide Corellia's response to the kidnapping and assassination; she was vocally defensive of her CSPS bodyguards, but otherwise ambivalent about the correct course moving forward, as she wished to see the outcome of Coruscant's investigation before acting.
When the Senate Bureau of Intelligence and Judicials arrested Morid Dosio, Fenesto's chief of staff, Jendaya publicly lambasted Fenesto and privately encouraged her allies on the Ethics Committee to expel Fenesto from the Senate. Senator Comayl Dzinsk later introduced exactly that motion.
Solution[]
Despite Fenesto's expulsion and Dosio's arrest, neither Admiral Eymus Dorr nor Master Tyson Dumiel was satisfied. When Mali walked out on an increasingly bellicose meeting, taking most of the Green Jedi with him, Jendaya persuaded the group to hear out Corsica Solo, who recommended Mali replace Dorr as Supreme Commander of the Corellian Defense Force. In the ensuing debate, Jendaya supported the proposals which ultimately resulted in Mali becoming Lord Protector of Corellia.

Jendaya speaking with Kadelle Chun at the Crown Ball
Jendaya kept herself largely neutral in the initial debate over the fates of Nal and Kadelle Chun, who had been arrested for smuggling and whose cause Mali championed. When Corellia Sector News published an unflattering piece linking Corsica to the smugglers, though, Jendaya excoriated them in the press. After meeting Kadelle at the 1,383 BBY Crown Ball, Jendaya also used her influence on the Chuns' behalf; it was she who secured financing from a Republic pharmaceutical company to buy the spice the Chuns had smuggled, allowing Nal to leave with a down payment against her loss.
Jendaya was re-elected to the Senate in early 1,383 with the largest margin of victory on Corellia in a millennium.
Counter-Conspirator[]
Jendaya Rose: “Are you? These people aren't targeting me.”
Vinette Cas-Valo: “You've been an ally of the Jedi, Green and otherwise; they might yet.”
Jendaya Rose: “Let them come, then. Corellia runs from no one.”
―Jendaya offers her support to the Jedi during the Rebirth conspiracy
When Mali learned of the Rebirth conspiracy, he ordered Jendaya's CSPS detail to keep her under guard at Corellia's embassy on Coruscant without explaining why. Jendaya eventually learned of the conspiracy from Glavial Iltek, who had been advised by Tirien Kal-Di, and immediately worked to rally senators who would oppose the cabal, including Nach Drydon, Kujko Wapam, Refni Ik'lakt, Fraaki Lambed, and Comayl Dzinsk. Vinette Cas-Valo arrived at the embassy during the night, and she, Dawsin Barrd, and Jendaya received Chancellor Nulu Thini and Camris Ver-tir after they fled an assassination attempt in the Senate Rotunda; Jendaya granted them asylum at the embassy and worked with Thini to refine the Senate's response to the crisis.
Skills and Abilities[]
Many political commentators considered Jendaya Rose an extraordinary orator with a gift for exciting emotions as she wished. She spoke Basic and Durese fluently, and was at least conversational in Huttese.
Appearance and Personality[]
An athletic, tan Human with strawberry blonde hair and green eyes, Jendaya Rose tended to dress simply rather than adopting the fashions of Coruscant and usually wore her hair in a ponytail. She carried a sidearm rather than be accompanied by bodyguards on Corellia, though she conceded to CorSec Protective Service protection off world, and finally submitted to it all the time after the events of Denon.
Aren't you the reason 'Corellian diplomacy' is Republic slang for 'bullying'?
—Mali Darakhan describes Jendaya's political style
Despite her deliberately uncomplicated appearance, many senators considered Jendaya one of the sharpest political minds in the Senate. Between Corellia's economic and military might and her own shrewdness and charisma, she often managed to negotiate favorable deals for Corellia or its interests. No less of a being than the Grand Master of the Jedi Order felt she was one of the most influential politicians in the Galactic Republic, and she was the darling of numerous Coruscant- and Corellia-based news organizations due to her command of facts and refusal to script interviews.
