The Jedi Resistance was founded in the year 12 BBY by Shama Fredur. It lasted until 6 ABY, when they merged with the New Jedi Order.

Ideals[]

After being betrayed by the leaders of the Republic, Shama did not wish to help in rebuilding it. Instead, he envisioned the Jedi returning to what they should be, the protectors of peace in the galaxy, instead of being the Republic's lap-dogs. His vision motivated him to build a great Jedi nation which had its own military force (similar to what the Sith had). This Sith system was advantageous, beacuse whenever the Sith attacked, they had always won the first attack and managed to push the Jedi back, killing countless of them before the jedi could mobilize and begin a counter-attack. A permanent military force meant that the Sith's first assault would almost certainly fail. Shama though that if the Republic was to return, the New Jedi Nation and the Republic must be allies. However, although he was the leader of the Resistance, he did not wish to be the leader of the future New Jedi Nation, instead he was constantly looking for Master Yoda to lead it, though he never found him before Yoda died.

History[]

Founded in 12 BBY by Jedi Knight, Shama Fredur, and his Padawan Ovedi Techi, it was one of the few anti-Imperial military factions to not sign the Corellian Treaty.

The idea of the Resistance[]

In the year 13 BBY two Jedi had been hiding on Nar Shaddaa since the execution of Order 66. They had survived as part-time smugglers working for people such as Shug Ninx. On a particular smuggling missions to Raxus Prime, the Jedi began conversations about trying to train more Jedi to stop their extinction, though it was decided that they would need some kind of protection as the Empire would undoubtedly be looking for them. At that moment, they noticed an old Venator-class Star Destroyer which was being towed to the planet, most likely to be scrapped. They decided to hijack it for their purposes.

Birth of the Darksaber[]

They took the hijacked ship to an asteroid belt that they knew of. It contained a very large hollow asteroid which they used to hide the ship in. They dubbed the ship Darksaber. Fortunately, the cruiser still contained her entire ARC-170, LAAT and AT-TE complement, as well as several AT-XT's. They spent the following year looking for a crew and having the ship refitted by what mechanics they trusted, though the process was slow, as they only had about 4 people working on the ship at a time. However, the refit picked up pace after they found their crew.

The clone army[]

In 12 BBY rebellious Kaminoan cloners bred an army of anti-Imperial clones. The cloners also started supplying clone troopers for all anti-Imperial factions. Shama was at a meeting with them when they found out that the Galactic Empire had learned of their treachery, and that they were going to strike the cloning facility. When the Jedi fleet arrived in about a day, they bundled as many clones onto the Darksaber as they could, deciding to keep a few behind to make it look as though they were not ready for an uprising, thus hoping to make the Empire believe that they had killed all of the rogue clones. 8,500 clones boarded the cruiser, which then went back to the asteroid and there, with help from the clone engineers, refits were completed the following year (11 BBY).

Operations[]

The Republic as we know it stood for a millenium before crumbling. Supposing that you succeed, in a thousand years' time, this will happen again. The real Republic stood for 25,000 years and was constantly shifting between Jedi and Sith rule. I refuse to try and save a flawed political system.
—Shama Fredur answering Garm Bel Iblis' call to join the Rebel Alliance

The Jedi Resistance was not a significant power, so they only dared to attack small Imperial freighters. However, when Shama and Ovebi were captured in 1 ABY, the Resistance went as far as attacking an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. In 3 ABY, when the Jedi performed a raid on an Imperial shipyard near Sullust, the shipyards' defence fleet was on a series of training exercises, thus leaving the shipyards poorly defended. In the attack, Resistance boarding parties were sent out, and they managed to capture a pair of Imperial storm commando escort carriers, which had been outfitted with experimental cloaking shields. In 2 BBY Shama was contacted by Garm Bel Iblis who asked him to sign the Corellian Treaty and join the Rebel Alliance. Shama had no interest in resurrecting the Republic as it had been proven that a republic wouldn't work.

Jedi business[]

Using the Force as a weapon does not lead to the dark side. It is a lack of control that sends Jedi down the dark path.
—Exerpt from Jedi Master Vrook's holocron

During the early days of the Resistance, Shama had attempted to find as many surviving Jedi as possible. He even managed to track Obi-Wan Kenobi to the planet of Tatooine. Shama tried to convince Obi-Wan to join his cause, but Obi-wan refused to do so, stating that he was on an importannt mission assigned to him by Jedi Master Yoda. Shama then attempted to get the information on Yoda's location out of him, even going as far as to start a battle in the Force with him when he tried to force his opinion into the master's mind to retrieve the information. Kenobi managed to repel his assault with relative ease. Shama apologised profusely and Obi-Wan forgave him instantly, telling him that he needed patience. Shama told Obi-wan that he was afraid that he was on the path to the dark side. Obi-wan laughed, telling him that he simply got angry, as this emotion was not condoned by the Jedi Code, for all Jedi got angry from time to time. Shama then explained Obi-Wan that at several points before he had managed to call upon Force lightning. As this was a technique generally assosiated with the dark side, this power made Shama fearful. Obi-wan handed him a Holocron of several teachings from Jedi Master Vrook which helped disperse Shama's fears, as Vrook himself had been known to call upon Force lightning in battle, but never fell to the dark side. This made Shama feel much better.

A new Jedi[]

If you ever create a Jedi Order of your own, I will join you, but for now, you must focus on training.
—Shama Fredur answering Luke Skywalker's invitation to the Rebel Alliance

Shama met Obi-Wan's Force ghost in 2 ABY. After talking to the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi and learning of Luke Skywalker, he went to the Rebel Alliance to see Luke and tried to convince him to join the Jedi Resisstance. Luke in turn tried to convince Shama to join the Alliance. Shama made a counter-offer "if you ever create a Jedi order of your own, i will join you. but for now, you just focus on training."

Jedi members[]

Over the 18 years that the Jedi Resistance stood, Shama managed to train several Jedi, including Telria Crull, Garcia Kreg'gresh, Kerol Volcar and Hanim Ielet.

  • 2 Venator-class Star Destroyers
    • Darksaber (heavily modified with extra weapons added from AT-TEs)
  • 26 Victory II-class frigates (19th Victory II Attack Fleet)

After acquiring the Darksaber in 14 BBY, they managed to capture two Imperial escort carriers capable of coaking in 3 ABY, called Ulic and Exar. These served as escorts for the Darksaber. In 4 ABY, 3 weeks after the Battle of Endor, the 19th Victory II Attack Fleet (26 Victory II-class frigates) seeking leadership joined the Jedi Resistance. Later on, they managed to procure another Venator-class Star Destroyer and named it Defender. 3 Victory IIs were destroyed in the numerous attacks by Imperial remnants.
