I am loyal to the Empire. That is exactly why I am doing this. It appears you are the traitor, dealing with Triumvirate.
—Haftiir to Empress Fel
Jarahiya Haftiir was a Human male who served as a general in the Imperial Army of the Fel Empire, Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire, and later the Empire-in-exile. A native of Agamar, Haftiir was raised by agricultural specialists, but instead decided to join the military rather than continue in his parents' footsteps. He began as a rank and file grunt, managing to climb the ranks during the Sith-Imperial War, when the Fel Empire fought against the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. During that war, he rose to the rank of colonel. When the Second Imperial Civil War, Haftiir was recognized as one of the few tactically skilled officers fighting for the One Sith Order of Darth Krayt, as most of the other high ranking officers stayed loyal to Roan Fel. For this, he was promoted to general. During that conflict, he saw little action, being placed in command of the garrison forces of a backwater sector.
Near the end of the war, he defected the Empire-in-exile, which was renamed Fel Empire and was a protectorate of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate. It was then led by Empress Marasiah Fel, the daughter of Roan Fel. However, the Empire became weak as it was essentially an autonomous province of the Triumvirate. Haftiir, a nationalist, became enraged over time, and in 139 ABY, successfully carried out a coup d'état against the monarchy on Bastion. Declaring himself the "Prince Regent" of the "New Bastion Empire", he went on to begin an internal conflict with the Empress for control of the empire. After a four year civil war, however, Haftiir's nationalists were exhausted and outnumbered, and Haftiir was trapped on Bastion. During the ensuing siege, the self-proclaimed Prince Regent was killed.
Biography[]
Early life and career[]
Haftiir was born to two agricultural specialists on Agamar, a planet in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. He became interested in military and politics during his youth, and did not care for agriculture, much to his parents' dismay. So when he turned seventeen, Haftiir left his homeworld and became a soldier in the Fel Empire. Haftiir began as a grunt, an artilleryman, but rose up the chain of command to the rank of captain before the Sith-Imperial War began. During the conflict, Hadtiir commanded a company and rose to the rank of colonel, being given command of a regiment stationed on Coruscant. When Darth Krayt carried out his coup against Emperor Fel, Haftiir's regiment was among the first units to recognize the Dark Lord of the Sith as the legitimate emperor. As the Second Imperial Civil War began, Haftiir was promoted to general, as his tactical abilities were noticed during the previous conflict (and the fact that many other officers defected to Fel also helped).
However, throughout the war with the Fel loyalists, Haftiir was stationed in reserve, commanding the forces of some backwater sector in the Core Worlds. As a result, he saw little action. Near the end of the war, Haftiir saw that the Sith were on the verge of defeat, and contacted Emperor Fel. He promised him the whole sector and his forces if he is given amnesty upon defection, and the rank of general in Imperial Army of Fel. The Emperor agreed, and the defection to the Empire-in-exile occurred. However, Krayt's forces were already fighting for control of Coruscant by the time this happened, and no one on the capitol noticed the message from that sector, saying that it's commander defected. Haftiir became a senior officer in the Imperial Army of the newly-reformed Fel Empire under Empress, Marasiah Fel, who succeeded her dead father at the end of the war. Haftiir pledged loyalty to her, though neither of them liked each other.
The coup[]
In 139 ABY, Haftiir's patience with Fel ended. He was enraged that she had allowed the Empire to become a de facto autonomous province of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, and wished the Empire to retain it's glory (being a nationalist). Many in the Empire also felt the same way, including Admiral Melik Kralj of the Imperial Navy. The two began plotting together and assembling their forces. Finally, they began a coup d'état on Bastion, the Empire's capital. Their forces quickly took control of the planet' administrative and military centers, meeting little resistance. After the coup's success, Haftiir personally executed the local Fel-loyal governor. He also announced the foundation of the New Bastion Empire, and named himself the Prince Regent. Haftiir intended for it to have an emperor, but could not find the right person for the job on Bastion, and left the throne vacant, with himself as the "Prince Regent". Many of those in the Fel Empire became loyal to him.
Civil war[]
Personality and traits[]
Haftiir was very loyal to the Empire since he joined, and eventually became an ultranationalist. He also seemed to not have problems with committing brutal acts to get his way, as he personally executed the Bastion governor after his coup. The general also expected everyone in the Empire to be loyal to him, as he viewed himself as the "savior" of the Empire; making it no longer a puppet of the Triumvirate. He seemed to not have any real friends other than Admiral Kralj, though even he was viewed by Haftiir and merely an accomplice in business, and not much more. Haftiir especially hated Empress Fel, a he viewed her as a bad leader and a traitor. However, the fact that he secretly had a sexual lust for her, which was well known amongst his officer staff.
