Jar Nun was a Sullustan naval commander who fought for the Jedi Coalition during the Mezzilenic War against the Galactic Republic.
Biography[]
Nun had served in the Sullustan defence force rather than the Republic navy and therefore was not forced to blindly follow the tyrannical rule of Supreme Chancellor Signet Mezzileen and often came into conflict with the government of Sullust that remained loyal to the Republic. When the Mezzilenic War erupted across the galaxy, Nun resigned his post and joined the newly formed Coalition and was assigned to the fleet commanded by Admiral Argst Perdel. He fought with Perdel at the Battle of New Cov and was left in command of the Coalition fleet in the system where he fought at the Battle of Churba and was forced to withdraw in the face of a vast Republic attack.
With Coalition forces scattered across the galaxy by the Republic assault, Nun led his fleet through Deep Space in the hopes of coming across a Coalition fleet. Eventually he made it back to one of the few pockets of Coalition territory and joined up with Perdel's fleet above Kashyyyk. However the Republic already had its eye on Kashyyyk and sent its leading commander Seph Kandis to wipe out Perdel's fleet. Allied with the Tradoshans, she threatened to overwhelm the Coalition forces and their Wookiee allies.
As the two fleets faced each other, Nun could only watch in astonishment as the Wookiee commander Briekk led his ships right into the heart of the enemy armada in pursuit of the Tradoshans. Perdel, faced with watching his allies be destroyed ordered his ships to engage the enemy. Although the Coalition fleet was able to drive the Republic back, Kandis ordered in her reinforcements that boarded many of the Coalition ships and killed Perdel. Now in command of the fleet Nun ordered his ships to withdraw above Kashyyyk and he watched as the Republic forces continued onwards. Realising that he could not win this battle he ordered his fleet to withdraw, leaving the Wookiees fate in the hands of the Republic.
Nun returned to Coalition space and reported to Coalition command and offered his resignation for the defeat at Kashyyk but it was turned down. When Admiral Persus Valorum and the Jedi Council devised a strategy to turn the tide against the Republic and Nun volunteered to lead the fightback, capturing a large Republic convoy before waging a guerilla campaign against the Republic.
The success of this campaign helped the Coalition to win a huge victory at the Battle of Kuat, and Nun led his forces on a push to Coruscant in an effort to force the Republic to surrender. While Valorum's fleet was held up at Xorth, Nun was able to reach Coruscant first and take the surrender of acting chancellor Harza Klim and end the war.
