The Parable Intruder-class corvette was Parable Shipyards' first attempt at a capital ship. It was designed for the role of anti-starfighter corvette, and had mostly point-defense cannons and quad laser turrets as armament with a few missile launchers and light turbolaser batteries, designed to keep larger ships at bay until the ship could be reinforced by heavier capital ships.
The Intruder-class corvette carried a crew of 250 officers/enlisted crew members, and was capable of transporting up to 300 soldiers at a time. The ship could be controlled by as few as 100 enlisted men, but the high demands of the ship made running it with fewer than full crew difficult at best.
Characteristics[]
Intruder-class corvettes were distinctly different than most ships of its class or size, and much smaller than most ships that carried as many weapons. The ship was compacted so the twenty-five point-defense laser cannons' firing arcs would overlap each other significantly, providing much more effective bursts of fire against starfighters. The disadvantage to this design was that strafing runs that punctured the shields of the corvette could take out multiple point-defense cannons in one run.
Despite its impressive anti-starfighter armament, the Intruder was nearly helpless against larger capital ships. The only heavy armament on the Intruder was a pair of concussion missile tubes and five light turbolaser batteries, enough to discourage attack by single capital ships for long enough to receive reinforcements or jump out of the system.
The Intruder-class corvette required 250 crew members to run properly, a large number for a ship its size. This number included 50 officers and 200 enlisted men, ranging from gunners to maintenance technicians. If needed, the Intruder could also transport up to 300 soldiers in barracks-style quarters.
One thing that the Intruder lacked was a starfighter complement. The designers deemed fighters nonessential in the corvette, as its job was the same as that of fighters. The lack of fighters was not seen well, however, and the Intruder was required to take an escort on most of its missions when combat was expected, as they had no defense against anything other than fighters. The hangar could be reconfigured to accommodate half of one bomber squadron, but extensive modifications would have to be made and the barracks would have to be removed to make room.
History[]
The Intruder-class corvette was first commissioned in 4,050 BBY for use of the Galactic Republic. It was designed and put into production just in time to see combat in the Old Sith Wars. It was first combat-tested in the Great Sith War against the rising Sith empire.
