The infinity shield was a defensive lightsaber combat technique. It was initially developed by Soresu stylists, though other practitioners often learned it as an emergency defensive measure.

To employ the technique, a lightsaber-wielding combatant would rapidly whirl his blade in front of his body in a series of infinity arcs. The arc could be tightened to protect only the front of the body in an almost impermeable whirl of blade, or widened to shield the front 180° of the body at the expense of slower arcs which might leave gaps. The weightless blade of a lightsaber made even wide arcs quick; while the infinity shield could easily deflect fire from a single shooter, it was ideal for deflecting blasts from multiple shooters simultaneously. A narrow arc shield could also stave off fire from a repeating blaster.

Soresu practitioner Obi-Wan Kenobi used an infinity shield during the First Battle of Geonosis shortly before being attacked by an acklay. Many Centurions of the Order of Keltrayu were taught the use of the infinity shield for battlefield conditions, although the preponderance of Ataru and Shien stylists in the Order meant most used it only as a last-ditch defense rather than a component of their main arsenals.
