The Imperial Navy, also called the Imperial Armada or the Imperial Fleet, was the naval arm of the armed forces of Darth Hargrev's Sith Empire. Fielding thousands of warships, logistics vessels, and starfighters, the Imperial Navy challenged the Galactic Federation Triumvirate's naval forces during the New Great Galactic War. The Navy was under the direct command of the Admiralty, the top fleet admirals of the fleet. There were also a few Grand Admirals, who operated outside of the normal hierarchy and answered only to Emperor Hargrev.
The flagship of the Navy was the Imperious-class Star Destroyer Exactor, which served as a mobile command center. The Imperious, another vessel of that class, served as the Sith Emperor's personal transport.
Organization[]
Structure[]
Throughout its existence, the Confederate Navy was composed of six levels to its command structures. The structure was as follows:
Section[]
The Section was the smallest group in the Sith Imperial Fleet. It was commanded by a captain and was composed of 2-4 vessels, plus maintenance and support crews.
Flight[]
The Flight was composed of 2-4 sections, and by extension, 4-16 vessels. It was commanded by a commodore.
Squadron[]
The Squadron was made up of three to four flights, and by extension, 6-12 sections and 12-64 vessels. It was commanded by a commodore.
Task group[]
The task group was composed of three to ten squadrons, with 36-640 vessels for each task group. It was commanded by a rear admiral.
Task force[]
The task force was composed of two task groups, with 72-1,280 vessels for each task force. It was commanded by a vice admiral.
Fleet[]
The second highest of the levels, the fleet, was composed of three task groups, and 200-4000 vessels among them. It was commanded by an admiral. At least a dozen fleets made up the Imperial Navy.
Combined fleet[]
The highest level only deployed on special occasions was the combined fleet, usually led either by an important official (a Grand Moff, Sith Lord, or Emperor Hargrev himself) or by a high ranking flag officer (High Admiral or Grand Admiral). Comprised of 400+ vessels.
Command staff[]
The Admiralty was responsible for overseeing the Imperial Armada and managed its operations, major fleet movements, restructuring of different formations, and coordinating activities with the Imperial Army staff. It was a group of the senior admirals, led by a High Admiral, who was the chief of naval staff. However, Grand Admirals were considered higher ranking than all other admirals (including those in the Admiralty) and answered only to the Emperor.
