The Imperial-Chiss War began in 8 ABY when tensions between the Imperial Expeditionary Force (IEF) and the Chiss Ascendancy led to war. While Grand Admiral Thrawn left the Unknown Regions to wage war against the New Republic, Thrawn decided to leave General Soontir Fel in charge of the Imperial forces in the Unknown Regions. Under Fel's leadership, the Imperial Expeditionary Force was led to victory and conquered the Chiss Ascendancy.
Causes of the war[]
When Thrawn and his Imperial Expeditionary Force first arrive in the Unknown Regions, the Chiss were suspicious of the IEF because their leader was Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn was exiled because he favored preemptive strikes which goes against the Chiss combat doctrine. And because Thrawn is the leader of the IEF, IEF-Chiss relations are bad from the beginning IEF and Chiss forces discover each other.
What made IEF and Chiss relations worse was the IEF claiming or colonizing worlds rich with resources that the Chiss wanted. Also what made IEF-Chiss relations worse was that many young rebellious Chiss join the IEF and certain Chiss Ruling Families are secretly supporting the IEF. When Palpatine died in 4 ABY the Galactic Empire would no longer supply troops,ships,supplies because the Empire was fragmenting.
The Chiss now believed they had a chance against the IEF and skirmishes began happening between IEF and Chiss forces. When Thrawn left to fight the New Republic the Chiss began preparing for all-out war against the IEF. General Fel realizing that war between the IEF and the Chiss was inevitable. So he launched a preemptive strike against the Chiss beginning the Imperial-Chiss war.
First strike[]
Fel was informed by IEF Intelligence that the Chiss had begun to build up their forces in the Gyuel system specifically around the gas giant Qoribu. Qoribu being dreadfully close to IEF space led Fel to believe that the Chiss were planning a attack. So Fel took all the Imperial forces available at Nirauan and all that was available at the time were eleven pilots from the 181st Imperial Fighter Wing and the 40 fighters of Skull Squadron and also under Fels command were the commandos of Delta Squad.
Fel and his small force of fighters quickly departed Nirauan and soon arrived in the Gyuel system. Soon after arriving the First IEF Strike Force discovered the Chiss forces near Qoribu. Slicer of Delta Squad was surprised that his fighters computer was registering the Chiss warship. The computer informed Slicer that the Chiss ship was in fact the Victory II-class Star Destroyer Halo. The fact that the Chiss had captured a Imperial warship greatly angered Delta Squad. But Fel told Delta Squad to focus on the mission. Fel had his forces quickly engaged the Chiss. While Skull Squadron and the 181st under Fels command engaged Chiss Clawcrafts, Delta Squad in their specially modified Tie Interceptors which had the ability to pierce Imperial or Chiss force fields.
As soon as Delta Squad landed in the Chiss hanger they were under heavy enemy fire from Chiss soldiers. Delta Squad soon enough fought there way out of the hangar and made their way to the shield generators. They quickly planted charges and detonated them which brought down the shields protecting the Halo. The Chiss trapped the Deltas in the shield generator room. Boss ordered Demo to do some redecorating. Demo quickly created a exit and the Delta's made their way to the turbo laser control room. While Boss,Havoc and Demo held off Chiss soldiers, Slicer hacked the turbo laser control computer and planted a virus that permanently brought the Halo's turbo lasers offline. After taking out the turbo lasers the Delta's quickly fought there way to the engine room. After planting the charges in the engine room Demo said they had 5 minutes to get to the hangar and get off the ship.
Suddenly the charges began going off and Havoc said sounds like we've got 30 seconds. The Delta's ran as fast they could and fought their way toward the hangar and got off the ship just as the Halo was destroyed by internal explosions. Soon enough both the Chiss and IEF forces withdrew due to heavy casualties. Not long after the First Battle of Qoribu full scale battles and skirmishes began along the Chiss-IEF borders.
