Icenia, officially known as the Icenian Confederation, was a country located on the Morsian Protectorate Planet Undulis within the Morsian Empire.

History[]

Early settling[]

The country originated from various settlements that popped up from immigrants from other planets around both the Morsian Empire and wider galaxy, with several settlements popping up near to each other. These settlements decided to join together for mutual benefit and defense, giving rise to the Icenian Confederation.

Expansion[]

As more travellers came and settled on the planet, the Icenian Confederation continued to grow as more settlements joined the confederation, all banding together to make the Icenian Economic Zone for free trade and travel, as well as adopting the ways of the Morsian Army for defence, creating the Icenian Armed Forces who defended the area of the country.

Old Sith Wars to Galactic Civil War[]

The army was placed on alert during the Old Sith Wars, as the threat of the Sith Empire invading Morsian space was there, however this never happened as the Sith instead travelled directly to Mors, laying the Siege of Mors. Nevertheless, the army remained prepared for an invasion, though the rest of the country continued as normal, trading both within and outside of the Morsian Empire.

The country continued to expand as more immigrants came and settled, creating their own settlements, until the Clone Wars when the army was again placed on alert and trading was reduced with Separatist aligned planets, in preparation for the Morsian Empire joining the war. However, they never officially entered the war and the army was briefly lowered from alert until the fall of the Galactic Republic in 19 BBY.

Acceptance of a new Jedi sect[]

In 14 BBY, the Jedi Knight Kadian Termos along with other exiled Jedi approached the Icenian government with a request for planning permission to create a new Jedi Temple and thus order within the country. He promised it would remain hidden from most people and abide by the laws of the country. Eventually, the government relented and gave him a patch of woodland on which to build a new Jedi Temple. This allowed the foundation of the Jedi Order (Morsian sect), which would continue to grow and gain traction. A Jedi Village was built near to the Temple which eventually expanded into the Jedi Acropolis. At the fall of the Galactic Empire in 5 BBY, the Jedi Order came out of hiding and announced their presence in Icenia. Whilst this annoyed the Icenian government, they realised that the Empire had little chance of doing anything with the information, and the country soon grew again with more immigrants to both the Order and planet in general.

Government[]

The Icenian government was a democratic parliament of town and city mayors who came together to discuss mutual agreements, benefits and disagreements across the confederation. A single mayor was elected Chairman of the Confederation, with a new vote every 4 years for either a new Chairman or to extend the term of the current one.

Language[]

The country only spoke Galactic Basic Standard, due to being immigrants to the planet who set up settlements on it. These immigrants may have spoken native languages on their own planet, but these were soon forgotten and Galactic Basic became the only spoken language in the confederation.

Economy[]

Whilst the country was a confederation of towns and cities who were not officially a part of a country, the mayors all came to the agreement to create the Icenian Economic and Free Travel Zone, which made the worth of the Galactic Credit Standard uniform across all the towns in the confederation. This helped create a stronger economy and avoid inflation and other economic problems that would occur if each settlement had a different value for the Galactic Credit. The zone also allowed for free travel and trade across the country.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The country was named after the Iceni tribe located in Celtic Britain during the Roman conquest.
