Clone pilot 2: “I have no idea, but they're bloody fast!”
―Two Clone pilots discussing the IX-1 during the First Battle of Earth
The IX-1 Interceptor ("IX" standing for "Interceptor, Experimental") was an experimental model of interceptor starfighter produced by the Techno Union Earth Division for the Confederate States Navy, the naval forces of the Confederate States of Earth, which was allied with the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Produced as an exceptionally fast fighter for intercepting enemy fighters and bomber formations, the IX-1 was nearly as fast the later RZ-1 A-wing, however it was far too expensive to see widespread production, as a result the IX-1 was reserved for the most elite pilots of the Confederate navy, who could use the IX-1's speed and manoeuvrability to greatest effect.
The IX-1 was highly deadly to the Z-95s, Y-wing and V-19 Torrent fighters of the Republic during the First and Second battles of Earth, leading to some in the Republic to worry about the fighter entering larger service with Separatist units, this didn't happen, however, and the IX-1 was exclusive to Separatist forces within the Solar System.
Following the Third Battle of Earth in 18 BBY the Earth Empire puppet state made use of the IX-1, several of which taken by the Galactic Empire for inspection and testing.
The Confederacy made use of the IX-1 until 24 ABY.
