The Hotepshen family was a wealthy and reputable Pantoran family native to the moon of Pantora. The family's loyalty belonged to the Pantoran Assembly and to the Galactic Republic. Although founded before 3800 BBY, the family first rose to prominence when Rahana Hotepshen was elected Supreme Chairwoman of the Pantoran Assembly in 3800 BBY. In the decades that followed, members of the family were often elected to the assembly or appointed to the planetary cabinet. Three times one of scions of the Hotepshen family was also elected to represent Pantora as Senator in the Galactic Senate.
Though famous on its homeworld, the Hotepshen family first came to galactic attention when the young Sanura Hotepshen was unexpectedly elected Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. After the fall of Coruscant to the Sith Empire, which many blamed on Sanura's naivety and incompetence, the family fell into disrepute. Though they remained very wealthy, for the next hundred years no member of the family was able to secure political office beyond low-ranking administrative functions.
