The Heroic Unit Ribbon was a unit award issued by the Golden Empire for acts of heroism either not in the face of the enemy or otherwise not sufficient to justify an award of the Courageous Unit Ribbon. As such, it was a collective equivalent of the individual Medal of Fortitude. The award, issued only in ribbon form, horizontalized the Medal of Fortitude's green and orange color scheme.
The Heroic Unit Ribbon was the juniormost of the three unit decorations for heroism, but senior to the Sacrifice Medal.
Behind the scenes[]
The other two unit equivalents of bravery decorations use names similar to their individual medals—the Valorous Unit Ribbon for the Star of Valor and the Courageous Unit Ribbon for the Medal of Courage. Although "fortitudinous" is a word, Sakaros felt it was a bit too much for a decoration name.
