Rise of the Empire era

Hermi's Defense was a smaller part of a larger series of sieges throughout the Galaxy by the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the Corellian sector during the Battle of Coruscant.

Prelude[]

When Contemplays Hermi was invoked by the Corellian Senator Garm Bel Iblis alongside the Corellian Diktat Shyla Merricope, the Corellian sector closed of it's borders and invoked isolationist security measures to prevent the Clone Wars from devastating the region. Corellia has had a long history of supporting the Galactic Republic and to an extent democratic institutions.

Darth Sidious knew the Imperialization of many of the neutral star systems would be needed to ensure order and dominance across the Galaxy, ensuring eternal Sith rule. Many of them would be hesitant to accept Imperial rule when they haven't seen the full extent of the horrors and tragedies experienced by much of the Clone Wars. In response to this, during the Battle of Coruscant, Sidious commissioned a number of leftover Separatist fleets to disengage relatively unimportant posts to lay siege to a number of neutral systems throughout the Galaxy.

A number of self-sustaining droid factories were already present on worlds like Corellia and Tralus. They were remotely activated and helped lead the ground forces flank the defending forces of the planet, some were even able to capture the planetary ion canons, disabling any remaining enemy forces the Separatist engaged in space.

Aftermath[]

The remaining deactivated and partially destroyed Separatist droids were sent to decomissioning facilities across Coronet City's industrial district.

Behind the scenes[]

The preface for this idea was already present in the official continuities despite Corellia being a core-world. Star Wars Galaxies featured a inactivated Corellian droid factory in preparation for a possible invasion of the system, making the idea of a handful more across the sector plausible. Naturally implying that the Separatists had access to the sector through the Corellian trade spine, though in Legends continuity the Separatists choose to attack Coruscant instead through the Nexus route and thus never touched Corellia.

When translated from Old Corellian to Basic, Hermi meant Solitude. In reference to Garm Bel Iblis's execution of Contemplanys Hermi, an isolationist clause embedded in the Galactic Constitution that removed the Corellian sector from the Clone Wars.
