The Hegemony Period was a period in the history of Gargan's Empire marked by the rise of irredentist movements, military anarchy and unclear imperial succession. During the Hegemony Period, multiple usurpers attempted to claim the title of Gargan, with numerous political alliances in the Landsmeet pushing for the reconquest of territories lost as a result of the New Sith Wars. The period began after the Seventh Battle of Ruusan and ended after the death of Gargan the Fang in 669 BBY.
Many Gargans rose in this period who repeatedly launched military campaigns in the Outer Rim, the most successful ones being carried out by Gargan the Fang. These campaigns strained the financial capabilities of the Empire - whose economy was still developing after investments in infrastructure during the Years of Peace. When Gargan the Fang died, the Garganese economy was crippled and the Kolkans pushed for greater power in the Landsmeet. When the Order of Gargan met their demands and expanded the autonomy of the noble families, the Gargan Dark Age began.
