Harza Klim was a leading member of the Core Party and deputy to Supreme Chancellor Signet Mezzileen during the Mezzilenic War before becoming acting Chancellor in the period following the war's ending and subsequent elections.
Biography[]
Klim was born at the height of Chancellor Mezzileen's power and popularity and this led him to belief that strong government was the best way to rule the galaxy. He rose through the ranks of Mezzileen's Core Party and became chairman of the Party and Mezzileen's deputy just before the Jedi Order split from the Republic and the Mezzilenic War began. Klim took little party in planning and instigating the Galactic Republic's war effort, instead he kept the day to day running of the government ticking over. However when the Coalition victory at Kuat ensured that the Republic lost the war, Klim found himself in charge of the republic as Mezzileen's regime crumbled around him.
With Mezzileen having secluded himself from the galaxy and many members of the government distancing themselves from the regime, Klim was left with no alternative but to negotiate surrender. Even though the Republic could still hold out for many months, Klim agreed to a surrender which prevented more bloodshed at the ongoing Battle of Xorth. However this agreement entailed that the status quo was maintained at the end of the war, which meant that the new Republic government could not interfere in the Tradoshan occupation of Kashyyyk. Klim then made an act of political self-sacrifice, resigning from his party in order to allow them to regroup before the inevitable elections and became acting Chancellor following the end of the war, ensuring that the Republic ticked over until Merix Valorum was elected later that year.
