Grenadiers were elite infantry units in the Army of the Neo-Infinite Empire that acted as its main striking force. Recruited from among the ranks of Crusaders, the Grenadiers were some of the most experienced and seasoned soldiers of the Neo-Infinte Army. It was considered a specialty, not a rank, as recruits of the Grenadiers kept their original rank. They were tasked with acting as the vanguard during mass assaults and carrying out special operations. As a result, the casualty rate among Grenadier units was high, and statistically only one out of every five Grenadiers remained alive for more than several years. However, when a Rakatan officer appointed a Crusader to this status it was considered an honor and refusal was unacceptable. Officers and sergeants kept their eye out for soldiers that distinguished themselves and were worthy of appointment to the Grenadiers. They were thus considered the most fanatically loyal and skilled troops in the Empire's army.
Members of the Grenadiers were equipped with heavier weapons than standard Crusaders or other troops, and were given slightly better armor. Other than that, they possessed the same equipment as the average Crusader.
