The Grand Academy Council was the administrative body of the Jedi Grand Academy of Ossus, the largest Jedi academy of the reformed Jedi Order in the wake of the Clone Wars. Subservient to the Council of First Knowledge, the seven member Council was the most powerful of all the academy councils operating around the galaxy and was tasked with the leadership of the not only the Grand Academy, but also the Acolyte Academy situated on the academy campus. The center of all Jedi learning, every single Jedi trained past Year 16 passed through the halls of the Grand Academy or the Acolyte Academy and were therefore subject to the jurisdiction of the Grand Academy Council.

Organization[]

Founded in Year 17, the Grand Academy Council was formed to guide the curriculum at the Grand Academy as mandated by the Council of First Knowledge. Comprised of seven of the Order's strongest instructors in their particular fields, the Council met in a torch-lit, windowless chamber of polished stone within the upper levels of the Grand Academy. Meeting regularly to discuss curriculum, teaching methods and the training of Jedi Initiates, the Councilors sat in a circle with the Academy Headmaster presiding. The other members of the Council were representative of some of the most important staff members in the Grand Academy.

The Order's Battlemaster was the Chief Lightsaber instructor within the entire academy system and was responsible for the appointment of all other lightsaber instructors and the Master of Lightsabers at other academies. Directing the overall methodology of lightsaber instruction, the Battlemaster was appointed by the Council of First Knowledge and was given a great deal of freedom in carrying out lightsaber training. Hosting the Academy Apprentice Tournament yearly atop the Pyramid of Combat, this tourney was held to show off each student's skill to prospective Masters looking for a student to train as a Padawan.

Th Order's Chief Seer was a servant of the Council of Five, the five prophets that divined the future for the High Council. Using the concentrated presence of so many Force-wielders that the academy represented, the Chief Seer sought to use divination to guide the curriculum, ensuring it maintained the Balance of the Force. Training only students with an innate ability in second sight, the Chief Seer ensured those particular students were given the proper training to harness their rare talents and grow powerful in their field.

While the Chief Librarian was the steward of the Great Library across the city, the Deputy Chief maintained the Archives of the Grand Academy and compiled reports from all other academies for submission to the Great Library. Housed within the Pyramid of Wisdom, the Academy Archives were supreme among all academy libraries in terms of scope, but dwarfed by the vaults of the Great Library and Kaleth. A skilled researcher and instructor, the Deputy Chief Librarian assisted students in their research, using systems connected with the Great Library for ease of study. While the construction of two libraries in the same city was a topic of debate when the Academy first opened, it was clarified that the Academy Archives would be a point of entry for knowledge, storing information pertinent to early study at the Academy and containing no dark side artifacts or other dangerous material. Information discovered at other academies were filtered by the Deputy Chief Librarian before being entered into the Great Library's records.

The Deputy Chief Healer, like the Deputy Chief Librarian, was the head of the Academy system's medical training facility yet the subordinate of the Chief Healers of the Circle. Each academy contained an advanced medical facility used to treat injuries suffered by students and Rangers active across the galaxy, while the more advanced training occurred at Mahara Kesh Temple on Tython and the Institute of Jedi Healing in Knossa.

The Chief Instructor of the Grand Academy was the Master who coordinated the assignment of all other faculty and worked with them on their curriculum. Assigning staff members particular assignments or duties, the Chief Instructor created the class list for each semester, compiling the different departments at the Academy and ensuring that students were receiving a diverse class selection. Similarly, the Chief Acolyte Instructor did the same at the Acolyte Academy, condensing a childhood of learning into a few short years that would equip Acolytes for their Great Journey on Tython.
