Gideon was a Human male Moff and Imperial warlord who operated during the early years of the New Republic.
Biography[]
Early life and career[]
Born in 51 BBY, Gideon joined the Imperial Security Bureau following the rise of the Galactic Empire. In 2 BBY, he was assigned to the fleet of Grand Admiral Miltin Takel, whose forces operated in the Mandalore sector. Grand Admiral Takel oversaw control of the sector with the Shimholt slavelord known as the Suprema and Gideon was tasked with keeping an eye on both of them to ensure that they did not overstep.
Butcher of Mandalore[]
Following the death of the Suprema in 3 ABY and the subsequent defeat of Grand Admiral Takel at the hands of Mand'alor Fenn Shysa and the Mandalorian Protectors, Gideon was promoted to the rank of Moff and given oversight of the Mandalore sector.
Following the death of Emperor Palpatine, Gideon fell in with Warlord Zsinj, being one of the few Moffs to align themselves with the warlord. In 5 ABY, Moff Gideon received orders from a Messenger droid sent by Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax, allegedly coming from the mouth of the late Emperor himself. Through the Messenger, Gideon was ordered to raze the planet of Mandalore as part of Operation: Cinder, having deemed it to no longer be worthy of occupation. Gideon obeyed these orders without consulting Zsinj and launched his attack, beginning the Great Purge of Mandalore.[1]
During this campaign, the capital city of Sundari was bombed and destroyed, and the faction led by Bo-Katan Kryze was defeated. Bo-Katan then surrendered the Darksaber to Gideon in exchange for her people's survival, only for him to betray her and continue attacking the Mandalorians, killing them or forcing them into exile. The Empire used this event to spin the narrative that Mandalore was uninhabitable and its people pushed to the edge of extinction. While those associated with the Mandalorian Protectors, such as the New Republic, did not buy into this propaganda and were aware that Mandalore was still inhabitable, other Mandalorian factions believed in the rumors and went into hiding.
Following the Purge of Mandalore, Gideon declared himself Moff of the Mandalore sector and became one of many Imperial warlords that operated during the nascent years of the New Republic. His actions also earned him the reputation as "the Butcher of Mandalore" among allies and foes alike.
