The Geonosians just never quit, don't they?
—Ahsoka Tano

The Geonosis Campaign was a series of various battles and uprisings that occured on the Outer Rim planet of Geonosis during the last stages of the Clone Wars in 20 BBY. It was one of the last major campaigns of the Galactic Republic as they sought to contain the Geonosian population as they delt with the Separatist forces during the Outer Rim Sieges. After the Geonosians revolted, the Republic was forced to send in troops to regain control over the planet, however it was forced to send in conscripts and civilian volunteers as most of the best troops and forces were spread thin across the Outer Rim during the initial rebellion on Geonosis.

Background[]

Throughout the Clone Wars, the planet of Geonosis was always a promenant location and common problem for the Republic. The planet was the sight of the first battle of the war that sparked the conflict and would be the sight of another Republic invasion during the early-mid stages of the war. In both battles, casualties were high and the Republic suffered heavy losses, making the Republic military more dependent on civilian volunteers and conscripts to make up for the slow production of clones on Kamino. This grew the size and importance of the Civilian Volunteer Corps, but this lead to various riots over conscription and a decrease in enlistment. Meanwhile in Geonosis, the planet was placed under a Republic military occupation, but the native Geonosians still remained loyal to the cause of the Confederacy and Count Dooku. In response to the foreign occupation, the Geonosians constructed secret droid factories underneath the planet's surface and had built new "construction" droids to serve as part of a Republic military effort to construct a new space station, which was secretly the Death Star, but Poggle the Lesser had other plans and would use the opportunity to betray the Republic once again and escape their captivity.

History[]

Uprising on Geonosis[]

Throughout the final years of the Clone Wars, the Outer Rim planet of Geonosis was placed under heavy occupation by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Outer Rim Sieges in an attempt to prevent the outbreak of another conflict. Due to the fierceness and militarism of the Geonosian warriors and their fanatical loyalty towards Count Dooku and the Separatist Alliance, the Republic wanted to prevent the planet from rebelling again and had the natives under an occupation. In order to keep the Geonosians in check, the people were forced to work in construction yards building Venator-class star destroyers and Poggle was forced to act as a Republic puppet leader while his people were punished for their support to the Separatist war effort. Poggle however, managed to plot an uprising and carried it out sometime in mid-20 BBY and it worked buying him the needed time to escape.

The Republic fleet above the planet had eventually sent in some of the ships and entered into the planet's atmosphere and hovered over the vast derserts of Geonosis to offer support, but the Geonosians intercepted the cruisers and began attacking them with their starfighters and had droid gunships land in their hangers to force the cruisers down. While the rebellion was happening, a Separatist fleet was sent to Geonosis in preperation for the Republic counter-attack and they carried with them a new dreadnaught that was in development by the Geonosians since the early onslaught of the war. The new Geonosian dreadnaught proved to be a devestating weapon for the Republic fleet as the Venators were soon destroyed by both the Geonosian dreadnaught and the other Munificent and Recusant cruisers supporting it. With the Republic forces in retreat, Geonosis fell back into Separatist hands and they began planning their defense of the planet knowing that the Republic would not leave the planet in the hands of the enemy and further stretch out their forces across the Outer Rim Territories.
