Faniir is very willing to talk to us now that the Republic attacked. We do not know how the Republic forces learned of our meeting, however.

Admiral Garik Valyn was a male Sith Pureblood who served as a naval officer in the armada of the Sith Empire. In 3,640 BBY, during the Galactic War, he was given command of Task Force Nemesis, leading it from his flagship, the Harrower-class dreadnought Nemesis. It was tasked with subjugating the Kathol sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Under his command, the task force was able to successfully sabotage Republic operations in the sector. This was largely due to Melak Gargun, an Imperial ace pilot. Valyn promoted him to the rank of captain for his efforts.
However, much of the Imperial fleet was destroyed by Republic forces at the Battle of Charis. Angry at losing his fleet, Admiral Valyn ordered the Nemesis to ram itself into the Star of the Senate, the Republic flagship. His crew, loyal to the bitter end, complied. The Sith admiral and all hands aboard both ships perished in the resulting explosion.
