Laera: “When I think about all that's happened to us in our lives, though, it feels like we're trapped in one big holodrama.
Silas: “Maybe we are. Think about it: maybe some person, sitting at a computer terminal somewhere on a distant world, really is writing out our lives for the entertainment of others.
Laera Reyolé and Silas Dan'kre, leaning on the fourth wall[src]

The Fourth Wall is a term used to describe the imaginary boundary between the characters and the audience. When characters break the fourth wall, the characters are directly acknowledging the audience or the fact that they are in a video game, comic, novel, TV show, etc. Other times, characters might simply lean on the fourth wall, wherein they acknowledge the possibility of said barrier but don't actually break it. In the Star Wars universe, characters lean on or break the fourth wall on several different occasions.

Palpatine, in Star Wars the Clone Wars (Season 4 Episode 18 "Crisis on Naboo") breaks the fourth wall at the end of the episode. When Anakin Skywalker is fighting Count Dooku in the dining hall, Palpatine is standing on the table with one of Dooku's droids. As the camera pans towards the Chancellor, Sidious looks directly at the camera and smiles knowingly.
