Awhile back, probably two or three years now, we had to disable what was then known as the Rich Text Editor from Star Wars Fanon. Our coding had been copied entirely from Wookieepedia, but, like virtually all other wikis at the time that copied coding from Wookieepedia, we didn’t keep it up to date. So, the coding broke the editor so badly that some people just couldn’t edit. All they saw was a white box instead of the editing box. So, we removed it. This was not a community consensus, just something that was necessary from a technical standpoint at the time.

Because our coding is now up to date and we have an admin, TK-999, who is proficient in CSS and JS, I've re-enabled the visual editor. If you have "Enable visual editor (where available)" checked in your preferences (under the Editing tab), you will now have the visual editing experience with a rich text editing interface rather than source mode/wikitext mode. You can toggle between source editing and visual editing in this editor, or you can disable the visual editor—but please note that a change in your user preferences impacts you on all Wikia wikis, except for Uncyclopedia which is a different user database.

Note that this does not impact Monobook users.

That said, the re-enabling of the visual editor allows for an easier editing experience for those that are not familiar with wikitext. The interface of visual editing is akin to the buttons on a message board, or even Microsoft Word or some other word processor. This interface is more in line with what people are used to while writing on a computer and the Internet.
