This is What’s the Story? – Alternative Star Wars Saga style! This is based on the canon What's The Story?, as well as Atarumaster88’s What’s the (back)story? for the Force Exile Series. Like the two aforementioned programs, this What’s the Story? is a feature for the Alternative Star Wars Saga, specifically Star Wars: Episode I - The Chosen One, where you, yes YOU, can submit entries for Alternative Saga characters of my choosing where you chronicle their stories, most of them being prior to their appearance (or, sometimes, mentioning) in, for now, The Chosen One. Star Wars: The Alderaan Affair may be added on at a later date, provided CBT comes back and likes the idea as well.

Much the same as the other two drives, this is essentially a contest to have the backstories you create become “canon” in the Alternative Saga. If you decide to write something, you can submit the backstory information to my e-mail, and I will choose which one I like best, or a combination of what I like best, to be included as the Alternative Saga “canon” backstory for the character (sometimes I may throw in non-character entries, just to spice things up). You are not sending me a piece of fan fiction. Fan fiction, ie. a narrative with dialogue, will be discarded if that’s what’s sent to me. You are essentially sending me biographical, personality, powers, etc. information (think seconds on an article). Don’t worry about encyclopedic guidelines. Feel free to include POV to your heart’s content. I'll also fix any spelling and grammar errors, since I'll likely be rewriting it anyway.

Ground rules[]

  1. No breaking of pre-established Alternative Saga canon. I don’t care if you break real canon, since this is a re-imagining after all, but you need to read up on what’s already established about the character.
  2. Entries are about the character, etc. prior to their appearance or mentioning in The Chosen One unless otherwise noted.
  3. I will choose whatever entry I want, or a combination of entries, at my discretion. I can furiously edit them, tear them to shreds and only keep a few pieces, etc. No matter what, though, if your entry or part of your entry is chosen, you will be credited in both an “Essential Guide” type of .PDF I upload (still working out the specifics on that) as well as the “behind the scenes” of the article once that information is put in.
    1. Just as a note, the .PDF thing will be so I can source the articles and hopefully bring them to good or featured article status, depending on the amount of content you give me.
  4. You send me a Mary Sue, I hit the delete button.
  5. Adding onto the Mary Sue rule, don’t write something that violates what the character has already been established as. It has to make sense. For example, Scortora doesn’t get to be a misunderstood victim. She’s a conniving b****. Fact.
  6. As Ataru said in his rules (might as well say this since these rules are being shamelessly stolen from him), “nods to obscure canon are always a plus.” As I said, you don’t have to follow real Star Wars canon, but I always like to throw in obscure nods. Feel free to do that as well.
  7. A good entry should be around 500 to 2000 words. That’s just a general guideline, though.

How to submit[]

If you want to submit an entry, send it to my e-mail (philyeagles92873@yahoo.com) prior to the deadline I establish. Please send it as a Word Document (any version is acceptable) or some other equivalent.

How to be selected[]

After the deadline, I’ll decide which entry, if any, I’m going to go with. If your entry is chosen, you will get credit as noted above. If not, better luck next time. No whining is allowed.

Contests[]

First contest – Antidar Williams (ASWS)[]

Second contest – Sotab Jacoma[]

Last time was a fan-canon character, so here’s a completely fanon character: Sotab Jacoma.

Sotab Jacoma was the captain of the New Centrif Security Forces during the Invasion of Utapau. He was killed during the Battle of New Centrif after he detonated a grenade to destroy nearby battle droids.

Things you should read: Sotab Jacoma, The Chosen One Chapter 2, and Utapau (ASWS) (just so you understand the culture and all that, as that’s where Sotab will have been born and raised).

Things to remember: While he did fight and die in a war, he’s part of the Utapau Security Forces. Like the canon Royal Naboo Security Forces, they’re more of a defense/guard group than an actual army. Take that into consideration when you write about his service in the forces.

Deadline: Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Sorry it’s only two weeks, but I want to get this done ASAP.

Any comments, questions, etc. can be posted beneath this comment or on my talk page if you so choose. Happy writing! - Brandon Rhea (talk) 22:03, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

  • I've spotted what I believe to be an error, Rhea. At first, you identify him as a colonel, but later you say "The captain himself" when referring to Jacoma again. The "captain reference" is on page 11. --User:Darth Wylind (Conference Room) 00:24, December 10, 2009 (UTC)
