Well, it's February and that means it's time for another round of Café Fanfic. For this special twentieth edition installment, we're going to do something a little more challenging, to stretch your horizons a little bit.

Just like the previous ones, we're going to talk about fan-fiction (yours). The basic ground rules are the same. Please restrict this to stuff from your fan-fiction, but aside from that, no pressure. You can suggest, make observations, but no condemning other people's work and "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer.

February's topic: Pick one of your characters. Describe their feelings about romance at age 13, age 26, and age 52. Since it's 2013, I figured it might be fun to use some multiples of 13 there. Now, you can be as general or specific as you like. If your character is attached or married at one/more of those ages, feel free to talk about their significant other. The idea is to see how your characters develop over time. Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 17:13, February 8, 2013 (UTC)

Palai Cerunna

Age 13-Palai was a courtesan-in-training at this age. She wasn't taught about love or romance, but she still believed in them and hoped she might get to experience both one day. But that wasn't possible for a cortigia on Deiu. Instead she was taught to be an intelligent and perceptive companion, always ready to provide whatever was requested from her benefactor. The biggest lesson imprinted upon the teenage Palai's mind was the permanence of her status in Deiu society, the impermanence of her role in the aristocracy (age would always find even the best courtesan), and the impossibility of finding true love for herself.

Age 26-Palai found love, or love found Palai. However it worked, that emotion she was taught couldn't exist for her became real. The young man who made this possible was her most recent benefactor, the Prestatine of Quodris, Josym Di'sallach. She was in love with him, but also skeptical about his feelings. Given their difference in social station paired with the seven year age gap, her skepticism was born from practicality.

Age 52-In the latter half of her life, Palai realized the rare alignment of fate and circumstance could make the impossible happen. She got to marry Josym, she was released from the bond of Commitment (in other words, she was no longer a courtesan). She was a mother of two and a published author. Love triumphed in the end, just like Palai always hoped.

Jedi Master 76[]

Dynatha Aris

Age 13: Taken from her parents as a child and inducted into the Sith Order, Dynatha had a twisted view of attraction and love. Raen Benax was her first crush and an object of her affection throughout her teenaged years. As a rising star, Raen Benax was the strongest of all the Sith learners at their academy on Alderaan, and he refused to back down from a challenge. Soft-spoken and timid, Dynatha admired these traits and—encouraged by Sith teachings—wanted to become stronger by knowing what made him strong. She wanted to be with him, be respected for his attraction to her, and have the courage that he possessed.

Age 26: After escaping the Sith Order and leaving her mercenary ways behind, Dynatha became a Jedi Knight in the Order following the First Jedi Purge. Her first love had died many years before, and her recent paramour had abandoned her. She came to believe that passion as an expression of love was selfish; any pleasure was entirely self-serving in her mind. As such, she gave up romantic pursuits and turned her attention to serving the Jedi Order. Even though marriage was not forbidden, she refused any suitors who approached her, focusing her efforts on caring for the galaxy's destitute.

Age 53: Married and with a child of her own, Dynatha settled down with her husband. Looking back, she recognized how foolish her attempts at love had been. It was not what her significant other did for her that mattered, it was what she was willing to give up to continue to pursue his affections. Just as her husband would have died to keep her safe—and very nearly did on several occasions—she was willing to sacrifice her comfortable life as a Jedi Knight to live together with him. She had discovered that love could not be hampered by time, distance, or hardship, and in the end, they were happy together.

  • Feel free to suggest ideas for future installments! Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 17:13, February 8, 2013 (UTC)
    • With the Ides of March approaching, next month's installment could be about if your character was ever betrayed and how they dealt with that betrayal, if at all. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 03:11, February 17, 2013 (UTC)
