Welcome back to a slightly-delayed version of Café Fanfic! Had to make sure I had a good concept (and if you have a good one for January, pitch it down below in the discussion section. Also tip your bartender!) It's December and that means a fresh round of Café Fanfic!
Just like the previous ones, we're going to talk about fan-fiction (yours). The basic ground rules are the same. Please restrict this to stuff from your fan-fiction, but aside from that, no pressure. You can suggest, make observations, but no condemning other people's work and "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer.
December's topic: In keeping with the holiday spirit, talk about a holiday you've either created and/or used in a story. What does the holiday commemorate (how did it start)? How is it celebrated? Who celebrates it? Be as detailed as you like, provided it's less than 500ish words. No novels, that was last month. ;)
We'd love to read about the events and celebrations you've come up with in the galaxy far, far away, so guzzle down an appropriate festive beverage and show us your holidays! Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 20:50, December 6, 2011 (UTC)

Corps Day[]
The holiday of Corps Day was created to honor the founder of the Republic Marines, Admiral Sakira Tobonne, and takes place on his birthday. It did not officially exist until after Tobonne's death, and was at first only celebrated by holding formal balls. As the years passed by and the Corps expanded, other types of celebrations were added, including performances by the Marine Corps Band, the Marine Corps Marksmanship Teams, and the Red Gundarks flight demonstration team. Such festivities were considered the highlight of the year for active-duty Marines, and even those stationed at a remote outpost on the frontier found ways to celebrate. Aboard ship, such fun and frivolity was usually restricted to the Marines' assigned barracks and mess hall, unless their vessel was particularly small.
Most Corps Day performances and celebrations were also open to the public, with civilians charged a nominal fee for admission. Most battalions had their annual "dress red dance" on that date as well, with invitations restricted to the soldiers and officers within that unit and up to one invited guest for enlistees and noncoms, two for junior and mid-grade officers, and up to five for senior-grade officers and any visiting admiralty. Sadly, with the disbanding of the Corps in the wake of the Ruusan Reformation, Corps Day was no longer celebrated and the date was eventually lost to all but the best-kept records. Discussion[]
Discuss how pointless and venial such a celebration is here.

- Honestly? Corpse Day? Karohalva (Talk) 04:06, December 8, 2011 (UTC)
- Why would they celebrate it on his birthday and not on the day the RepMarines were officially created? Atarumaster88

- Short answer: why the heck not? Long answer: The Corps wasn't founded on one single day, it was a process of approvals, agreements, and the forming of a nucleus. Also, it is similar to how we typically regard the United States' date of birth to be 4 July, even though that's an oversimplification (it's the day the Declaration was "officially" signed even though it had been approved some time earlier). Therefore, the succeeding Commandant simply decreed Corps Day to be the day of Admiral Tobonne's birth, since he was the driving force behind the Marines' organization as a fighting force.
