Hey! I'm back! First, enormous thanks to Trak Nar and her freakin' sweet hat for managing the café in my absence. It's November and that means a fresh round of Café Fanfic!
Just like the previous ones, we're going to talk about fan-fiction (yours). The basic ground rules are the same. Please restrict this to stuff from your fan-fiction, but aside from that, no pressure. You can suggest, make observations, but no condemning other people's work and "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer.
November's topic: Let's talk about something different from characters this time and discuss locales. Discuss a place you made for your fanfic or conceptualized for an idea for a fanfic. This can be any type of location. It can be a space station, an asteroid, a starship, a cave, a temple, a forest, a desert, a swamp, a mountain, a lake, a building, a complex, a factory, etc. Let's keep it smaller than a planet or moon—I'd like you to be a little more specific.
For example, if I were George Lucas talking about Episode III, Mustafar would be a bit too general. The mining complex on Mustafar and its surroundings where Anakin and Obi-Wan dueled would be more appropriate. Something you would set a scene on if you were writing one.
Tell us about the location (what's there? what is it like?) and any significance it has to your characters. Is it home? Site of a battle? A prison? A workplace? Also, talk about any influences you had for your location. We'd love to see the exciting places you've come up with in the galaxy far, far away, so show us your scenery! Ferrum Grotto[]
The Ferrum Grotto is a cave system that houses lightsaber crystals. The cave is located on a marble planet named Gymbol (pronounced like thimble). The place is full of gargantuan crystals and is the principle supplier of crystals for the Jedi. Another thing to note is that the frequent visits of Jedi have made it a light side nexus. The cave glows with the imbued power of the crystals and within the Force. Similar to Ilum the place has become a place for meditation and reflection on a Jedi's journey to become a Knight. Often times the cave would induce visions of a Jedi's future based on their current path. Ferrum is a holy place of sorts for the Jedi Order just like the Jedi Temple and the Dantooine and Ilum caves.
The grotto came into being after a visit to Notre Dame and its own Grotto (a place based on another grotto located in Lourdes, France). The cave was also loosely based on the Dantooine caves and the dark side cave on Dagobah. A cave that became a location of significant religious importance to the Jedi was intriguing since places outside of the Jedi Temple were quite rare and light side nexus's even more so. The giant crystals were influenced by giant crystal caves like the Naica Mine, where said crytals exceeded 50 feet in length.
Comments[]
What, if anything, distinguishes it from Ilum? It's perfectly fine if they're very similar, just curious to see what its unique traits are. Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 18:16, November 7, 2011 (UTC)
- Unlike the caves on Ilum, the Gymbol cave is quite dangerous since it suffered from occasional flooding which prevented any occupant from leaving. The flooding prevented the construction of any permanent shelter. Also, the Force-induced visions varied, rather than facing an entity synonymous with one's past or the dark side, they had the ability to see into their current future (like the Pool of Knowledge). The Force nexus did not extend beyond the cave like on Ilum, so it was much harder to locate the planet with the Force. This allowed it to be included on public star charts. The crystalline cave structure was a Force insulator, the Force was much more intense when one entered than any other place in the galaxy. -I'm the Chosen One 18:34, November 8, 2011 (UTC)
Casino Imperial[]
The Casino (pronounced Im-pier-E-AL) is a place of high stakes, high class gambling. It is known for some of the highest limits and stakes in the Outer Rim. The casino, located in a city and planet known for its gambling, entertainment and hotel establishments went from being the oldest casino on the world to being the "grandest" in price, revenue, entertainment and vice, after a major reconstruction. The richest of the rich go their and slimiest of the slime try to cut a slice. After a bad deal, Mongo (Gastrohilic Testino) the Hutt attempted to sabotage it and Cloud City, only to end with court fees and the destruction of his independent empire. The place went from looking like a high-arched, classical architecture cookie cutter casino before the sabotage attempt to a vaulted glass pyramid based on neo-Korriban (Egyptian) architecture.
The building was inspired by the strip in Vegas and their plethora of major casinos. The concept began after viewing the Casino Royale Bond movie and was the original name of the establishment until Imperial was thought to be more fitting in the Star Wars universe. The appearance of the structure was based on the Casino Royale in Vegas (purely because of the name) and the Imperial Palace (also because of the name). The Luxor replaced the failed Harmon casino as the new, renovated appearance.-I'm the Chosen One 18:48, November 3, 2011 (UTC)

"Little Agamar"[]
Named for her homeworld and set into the bole of a great tuskwood tree, Laera Reyolé and Silas Dan'kre lived in this little slice of paradise for approximately six Standard months. After their unexpected and less-than-ideal arrival on T'lessia due to turbolaser-inflicted engine trouble (to put it mildly), the two refugees had a hand in shaping the political landscape of the native Sa'ari. Circumstances eventually forced them to flee Tal'adin City and seek refuge in the Great Western Forest; at first they relied on their Marine survival training, with Silas having graduated from SERE and Laera having spent years serving on frontier worlds. As the seasons changed, they realized that they had to find more secure lodgings, so they literally carved out a niche for themselves within the great conifer.
Little Agamar itself is small, about the size of a single-occupancy bedroom in a small flat, but it's also self-contained and homey enough that any Navy veteran (real-world or from the GFFA) would feel at home. Since the tree had to be able to survive such a large hole being gouged out of its trunk, Laera and Silas camped out on one of the tree's broader branches for ten nights as they gently but firmly sank what tools they had—including Laera's lightsaber—into the hard wood. Furthermore, as the interior took shape, it was liberally coated with tree sap so that by the time initial work was complete, it had hardened nicely. Along one wall was hung a pair of cots made of woven vine, while the opposite bore shelves that had been left by the carving process; here, Laera and Silas stored many of the mementos of their journey, along with the components of their Marine assault armor. Foodstuffs were kept in a net slung along the low ceiling, and weapons were stored in a semi-secluded alcove to the left of the entry hole.
While residing in Little Agamar, Laera and Silas subsisted on local wildlife, which they hunted with bows and arrows made from local material. For things which they could not procure on their own, they traded with forest-dwelling Sa'ari communities, in addition to occasionally providing assistance in matters of local importance. When Luke and Ben Skywalker arrived on T'lessia in 45 ABY, they stayed overnight at Little Agamar, later participating in events which resulted in the conclusion of the Sa'ari situation. - How do they deal with a violent storm? Maybe I'm misunderstanding how it's made—is the tree big enough that there's literally a room carved out inside the trunk, or is it set among the branches ala a traditional treehouse. Atarumaster88

- It's literally carved into the tree itself. Tuskwoods are, quite frankly, California redwood trees on some serious 'roids, as befitting Cambrian-era conifers (T'lessian gravity is .85g and the oxygen content is higher). This is established both in the narrative and the associated fanon article. That said, they did drape the entry hole with a plek'kak-hide curtain.

Pool Of The Moon[]
The pool of the moon is, well, it's going to appear in Stormlord. It is a utopia that is in an unknown part of the universe, though it can only be accessed through the Jedi Temple. While working for the empire as "Stormlord" he also is searching for the entrance. The pool also has its own atomospherical field, i'm not always good at explaining what goes through my head so tis is all i will say. --TheComingShadow (Talk) 22:33, November 9, 2011 (UTC)

Mally[]
Let's do a ship, shall we? The Mally is Evening Delwynn's flagship. It is a Traverser-class cruiser that has been slightly modified to be a mobile office and home. Since Delwynn really has no surviving family (other than a sister that has not been officially mentioned as still living), she lives in the ship while she works. It is a great convenience for her, but it does get old, as one can imagine. Even so, the vessel is comfortable and has everything the work-obsessed agent needs. Asana Lani has spent a lot of time on the vessel, as well, but does not reside there permanently. Emra lives with Delwynn, of course, and the droid even has its own chargers and devices in the maintenance bay. The Mally was named after Delwynn's late daughter and was given to her (for a very small price) by her now-deceased father. With all the loss the agent has experienced, she is grossly attached to the ship.
The layout of the vessel is quite symmetrical and orderly. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I direct your attention to this:

Since Delwynn has quite a team (and a few pickups/rescues) with her during the Seswenna Security Crisis, here is the dormatory rundown: Danstari is staying in the dorm closest to the cockpit, followed by Shalli and Fay. Dawn Starskipper is staying in the same room as Asana, the last door down from the cockpit on the right. The complex opposite Dawn and Asana's room is Delwynn's personal office and quarters. The other complex is currently being used by Master Sidian Greystone. He gets special privileges because of his past relationship to the agent. — Fiolli 02:08, November 20, 2011 (UTC)

Bedlam[]
Hm, where to start with this on? Well, the Bedacus-Lambrecht Correctional Facility, also known as simply "Bedlam," is a maximum security prison located on Coruscant. The prison contains several cell blocks of varying degrees of security and populations, from the general population, to the more-restrictive Hi-Max Unit, where inmates are confined to their cells for 23 hour a standard day, to the Secure Needs Unit, a general population unit reserved for high-risk inmates, such as denounced gang members and sexual deviants. Then, there's the mix-gender population in the E-7 Mental Observation Unit, which is located in the E-Block housing unit.
As the name implies, the E-7 unit houses inmates whose crimes were due to mental illness, deficiency, or they were otherwise deemed incompetent to stand trial. Due to budget cuts, many long-term psychiatric units were closed and their patients released. Local prisons and detention centers had seen an influx of mentally-ill inmates, due to Coruscant simply not having the resources to deal with them. Bedlam became known for its mental observation units, of which there are two in the general population housing units, one in E-block, the other in A-block. The mental observation units are staffed to deal with a variety of cases, and depending on the severity of an inmate's symptoms, that inmate may either be housed in A-block for short-term observation, or E-block for a more long-term stay. There is also a Crisis Unit, which is located in the infirmary, for inmates who are deemed to be in immediate danger of harming themselves or others—that is, "in crisis."
E-7 is a long-term mental observation unit; inmates are held in that unit anywhere from three months to their entire prison term. The population would vary, as inmates were frequently evaluated and were either moved to different housing units or released. As of 25 ABY, there was a level of overcrowding in the prison, and a number of inmates were housed in that cell block simply because there was room. In E-7, inmates are on medication and receive therapy from the psychiatric staff. Otherwise, the housing unit functions the same as the other general population units; inmates are given an hour of rec each day outside their cells, they receive their food in the mess hall, and they are allowed to shower once a day. The inmates are still subject to searches and discipline, the rewarding and removal of privileges, and are expected to follow the same rules and policies as the general population.
The walls of the housing units are bland, and the cells are often dotted with graffiti. The prison itself is a blocky structure with several outdoor exercise yards, each with genetically-engineered lawns. The cell doors are durasteel and equipped with tray slots, and there are floor-to-ceiling transparisteel windows set beside them to provide the guards with visual inspection. The cells can house two inmates each, and they are two meters wide, three meters deep. Some cells have windows, which are thin strips of dingy transparisteel set into the wall, about 1.5 meters above the floor. E-block has an airlocked refresher to meet the needs of non-oxygen-breathing inmates. Trak Nar Ramble on 05:26, November 23, 2011 (UTC)
