Welcome back to Cafe Fanfic, where both the drinks AND the stories are fresh, creative, and filled with variety. Now, we've hit hard times in the cafe recently—since nobody showed up recently. Maybe it was the fact that the shipments were stalled and we had barely anything to drink due to the delay, but how was I supposed to know that there'd be a customs blockade? Maybe the flavors we had left weren't as good either. Whatever the case, this is do or die time. If there's no longer interest in our little venue, we'll be forced to close up shop.
Just like last time, we're going to talk about fan-fiction (yours). The basic ground rules are the same. Please restrict this to stuff from your fan-fiction, but aside from that, no pressure. You can suggest, make observations, but no condemning other people's work and "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer.
Also, please do suggest topics for future months if you like this little feature and want to see it continue.
So here's the deal. Let's talk downtime.
August's topic: What does your character do when not sucked into adventures? No fighting wars. No racing across the galaxy to avert (or cause) catastrophe. No high-stakes sabacc games. No investigating crime. No causing rancorous bar brawls (especially not here!) Nothing terribly extraordinary. What does your character do in their downtime?
Feel free to discuss what other people have written whether or not you decide to share. This does not have to be something you've already written or included within your "official" storylines. It can be first or third-person perspective. It could be made up on the spot, which is what I'm going to do. Also, thanks to Josh Bender for this storyline. Goodwood[]
- Character: Silas Dan'kre
- Timeframe: Between Saber Battalion and The Last Full Measure
Silas likes to mess with computers. A lot. He's also a bit of a tinker; he once attempted to wire a probe droid's motivator into a protocol droid's chassis, but the results were mixed. The droid started acting like some reject from a third-rate spy holodrama and didn't do much to impress the higher-ups at Republic Intelligence. Fortunately, his slicing efforts are much more successful, and he's hacked his share of classified datafiles without leaving a trail. He's a hacker with scruples, however, and when he's not goofing around he only does work that will benefit the Republic. GoodwoodDebating Society11,988 Edits 04:16, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

- In all seriousness, why isn't he a paranoid conniver like so many other Bothans we're met with? How did he avoid this apparently bred personality and acquire such traits as he has? – Karohalva (Talk) 06:30, August 5, 2011 (UTC)
- Because he trained as a warrior. See also Asyr Sei'lar and why she isn't a paranoid conniver.

- Character: Pelenora T'Yelc
- 'Timeframe: Just before The Great Leap Forward
When not pursuing the latest facet of her plan, she likes to fly ultralight aircraft in addition to practicing her skills behind the stick of a Monitor-class helicopter gunship. Since the Sa'ari basically have Earth-level technology that's just a helluva lot more efficient and eco-friendly, that's pretty much the norm. She also enjoys deep-sea diving, for that matter, or snorkeling along a coral reef. GoodwoodDebating Society11,988 Edits 04:16, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

Karohalva[]
Meet Nikos Bubano, Nikos the Duros. Employee neither intrepid nor daring of Biscuit Baron. How does he spend his off time? Not very wisely.

Finally, Nikos’ patience snapped. It had been a long time coming, but enough was finally enough. “Fine!” he shouted back at the woman, throwing his hands in the air as his own gesture of exasperation. “I’ll get your kriffing toy!” The woman gasped in horror, her head jerking from Nikos to her son and back to Nikos again. “How dare you! You watch your language! Think of the children! My boy doesn’t need to hear profanity like that!” “Yeah, well, by the looks of him it’s the closest thing he’ll ever get to a girl, leastwise one that isn’t holographic!” With a smack that reverberated throughout the restaurant, the woman slapped Nikos full across the face. Behind Nikos, Isoprene dropped the replacement meal she was in the act of handing to the other customer in surprise. She then let out a gasp of further astonishment when Nikos, long suppressed rage finally exploding, balled his fingers into a large blue fist and punched the woman in the jowls.

Darth Dararus[]
Hi. I just noticed this and want to see it continue. If you've noticed, I made a villain for my fanfic called Darth Dararus. I've been talking it up lately. So, this is how he spends his off time.
He spends his time as a psychologist. Not for the noble cause of helping people through hard times, though. He is a psychologist that specializes in torture. He absolutely loves hurting people in the most horrible way possible. He also likes inventing new Force powers to DESTROY LUKE SKYWALKER.
As for future suggestions, I came up with two possibility's. First, how about a Mary Sue limitus test? no one wants their fanfic hero to be a Mary Sue(I've had problems with Mary Sues myself). Second, I like the idea of a thing were you tell your characters personality and how he got that personality. Just a thought.
By the way, I like the concept of a fan fiction forum. Pretty cool.--Kermit has been turned to the dark side 02:44, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
- So, why is Dararus so obsessed with destroying Luke? Is it simply because Luke killed the Emperor, or is there something more to it? Why does he like to hurt people in the most horrible way possible? Did someone hurt him in the past and he obsessed over it and it grew into a desire for revenge on everyone who has ever looked at him funny? Trak Nar Ramble on 08:27, August 30, 2011 (UTC)
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. He is obsessed with destroying Luke because he destroyed the emperor. I never really thought about why he likes to hurt people so much. That is the best answer I can come up with. Again, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I was offline for a few days.--Kermit has been turned to the dark side 02:47, September 2, 2011 (UTC)
Some random characters of Trak's (and Goodwood's)[]
When she's not either on duty or heading the Public Relations Bureau for the Republic Marines, Reeka likes to write. Over the years, that penchant for writing had led her to publish a few books. She started writing about her experiences in the military when she was still in boot camp, and later had managed to become involved in the Marines' holozine, Jarhead!, where she would write articles and interview other soldiers. It was after that stint that she wrote her first book, Squeak!, which detailed her life with the Marines. Trak Nar Ramble on 07:11, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Tuffass enjoys taking long walks and meditating. He's actually quite friendly when not on duty; he enjoys hanging out in local bars with his colleagues. Alcohol makes him mellow and a bit melancholy, however. Though, the quickest way to his heart is definitely with chocolate. He'll take time out and visit the commissary for a chocolaty snack whenever possible. He dedicated himself to the Marines, as that was the path that the mists had sent him on, so while he is sociable, his topic of conversation would most likely be about the Marines. Brandon Rhea[]
- Character: Michael Lars
- Timeframe: c. 22 BBY, pre-Star Wars: Episode I - The Chosen One and chapters 1-3 of the novel
The character I’ll talk briefly about here is Michael Lars, the main character of Star Wars: Episode I - The Chosen One and a young man who will one day be known as Annikin Skywalker. I don’t want to give away too much, since I’m trying not to give out too much information for The Chosen One.
Essentially, Michael doesn’t have a life like the ones described in the month’s topic. He doesn’t have adventures, he’s never fought a war, he’s never left Tatooine to pick up a bottle of Corellian Ale let alone to avert or cause catastrophe. He knows how to play sabacc but hasn’t been in any high stakes games. He’s not an investigator. He doesn’t cause rancorous bar brawls. There is nothing extraordinary about him—yet.
His whole life is downtime. He used to be an amateur swoop racer and hoped to be a competitive swoop racer, but that never happened. Now he lives and works on his family farm and, in order to earn a little more money for himself, his adoptive father, and adoptive brother, he works as a merchant in Anchorhead Station.
Here’s a brief excerpt from the first chapter of The Chosen One.

At the surface of the fortress, Anchorhead’s citizens went about their daily routines, heading from shop to shop as they gathered the food and supplies they would need in the weeks ahead. Most people had few peggats to spare, so the only currency they could rely on was other goods and materials they had, which often amounted to nothing at all. Bartering was common, but many of the merchants were befitting of a Hutt domain. Their handling of their prices was nothing short of greed. That was, of course, a generalization. Most of the merchants were honest people who, while protecting their own families from hardship, understood all too well the problems of others. One of these merchants sat in the corner of one of the far, forgotten streets of the settlement, hoping every day that someone would buy his assortment of tools, foods, trinkets, and various other goods, but no one ever came. He’d been shoved into one of the most distant corners of the city—he was still able to see the fortress, of course—and wouldn’t be able to move closer to the central business district until he proved that he was a merchant of enough value to warrant being in the center of it all. How he was supposed to prove himself when no one ever bought from him? This was Michael Lars, a young man who spent his days sitting in the back alleys of a rundown town with absolutely nothing of any real value to offer, and nothing of real value being offered back. He felt like nothing, a nobody, something no one outside of his own family cared for. He was one person, a man of only twenty-two, a mere mortal. He could hurt, suffer, anguish, and even die. He could feel that the universe knew this about him and everyone else. It’s why the hits kept on coming, he would tell himself. There was no other way to explain it. It would keep happening over and over again. Forever.
That’s pretty much that. He doesn’t have a very exiting life when the novel starts. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:19, September 2, 2011 (UTC)
