Fanon Cantina

Welcome back to a slightly-delayed version of Café Fanfic! Had to make sure I had a good concept (and if you have a good one for February, pitch it down below in the discussion section. Also tip your bartender!) Time to usher in the new year with a fresh round of Café Fanfic!

Just like the previous ones, we're going to talk about fan-fiction (yours). The basic ground rules are the same. Please restrict this to stuff from your fan-fiction, but aside from that, no pressure. You can suggest, make observations, but no condemning other people's work and "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer.

January's topic: Does your character have a particular possession, memento, weapon, or article that they particularly treasure? What is it? Why do they treasure it?

We'd love to read about the things your character is most attached to, so post 'em down below and we'll have a peek. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 04:44, January 7, 2012 (UTC)

Milya Kraen by Atarumaster88[]

We'll say this is set circa 20 ABY. Next to her wedding ring, Milya probably prizes the Echani vibroblade she got from her adopted mother more than anything. The blade isn't very long, probably not much more than twenty centimeters and single-bladed. The weapon is balanced so she can throw it and due to its Echani heritage, is built lightweight so its user can parry or attack quickly. It's the only thing she has to remember her by, since her foster mother was killed in front of her when she was a teenager. Milya used that blade to help avenge her mother's death and still carries it. The weapon is a link back to a childhood snatched abruptly from her, reminding her not only of her adopted mother's strength, but also her nobility, kindness, and strength of character.

  • Because of the memories associated with her, does she use it sparingly (such as for special circumstances) or does she use it all the time as her prefered weapon of choice? If she uses it often, is there any form of special maintenance that she performs to keep it in quality condition? Fiolli 16:49, January 23, 2012 (UTC)
    • No, she doesn't treat it as ornamental or ceremonial. It's a warrior's weapon, meant for use in battle. She was carrying it when she first met Selu (FE 2.5) and takes care of it fastidiously, sharpening the blade as part of a pre-battle routine (FE 2.7). I imagine she also checks its balance and replaces the handlegrip when it get worn out. I did a cursory check on FE III and IV but I don't think it's mentioned significantly there. Dawn Starskipper by Fiolli[]

When the Seswenna Security Crisis broke out, Dawn was simply a teenager going about her daily life. Thanks to the timely arrival of Evening Delwynn and Fay, she was saved. The problem: Dawn became a refugee aboard the Mally with only the supplies she was able to throw into her one travel bag. There were two things that she held dear that made their way into the bag. First was the novel Cubing the Sphere by Kellark Cogg. It was her summer reading for school, and she even remarked that it felt like the only thing she had from home. At the bottom of her bag, however, was also a small necklace with a purple gemstone in it that her parents had given her for her thirteenth birthday. It was not overly fancy or even of that high-quality, but none of that mattered. When Dawn discovered it in the bag, she immediately ran to Delwynn in tears. Through the end of the crisis, she wore the piece of jewelry nonstop.

  • While we have a good idea of what "daily life" might mean for a real-life teenager, it can be quite different in the GFFA. Some teenagers have fought wars, led planets, etc. What was Dawn Starskipper's life like? Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 18:50, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
    • Good point. Simply, she went to school, hung out with her friends, did the odd mischevious things, went shopping, etc. I have never envisioned anything too much unlike what the normative Western-culture teenager does. Seswenna was a peaceful little spot until the crisis unfolded. Fiolli 16:47, January 23, 2012 (UTC)

Michael Lars by Brandon Rhea[]

Michael Lars’ most treasured possession is a snippet of japor wood that his mother gave him when he was born. He doesn’t know much about it, but he knows that it’s meant to be a good luck charm. He’s not a particularly superstitious person, but if he’s entering a situation where he feels that he could use luck or protection then he likes to have it with him. Beyond that, though, he doesn’t know what else it represents, if it represents anything at all—and in ASWS fashion, that’s a big if.

The symbol carved into the wood is that of a small dove breaking free from chains. To Michael, there was a time when this represented hope for the future, and that’s why he feels protected by it. It’s as if his mother is there with him, helping him live a better life.

Beyond that, Michael treasures it because it’s one of the few mementos he has from his late mother. She died when he was just a baby, and he only remembers a few glimpses of her, so this is the closest he can be to his mother. She gave it to him, so he knows it must have meant something to her. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 03:13, January 12, 2012 (UTC)

  • Does he have any holos or 2-D representations of his mother, or this his only memento? Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 16:44, January 23, 2012 (UTC)
    • He has a 2-D picture, or whatever the Star Wars term for that would be. The japor snippet is his strongest memento, though, since it's as if she's watching over him with that. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:17, January 23, 2012 (UTC)

Kane by VideoGamePower[]

Lets set this 1,005 ABY. Kane's most valued possession in the Force Amplifier. It gave him his force powers, and (although he doesn't know it) it controls him. The amplifier is a small prism-like object that contains a streak of red darkside energy. It can render you one of the most powerful power in the galaxy, and (I know this is Mary Sueish) bring people back from the dead. Kane used it to establish the New Sith Empire, and intends to use it to revive Palpatine.

Discussion[]

  • Since the big deal with February is Valentine's Day, why not have the topic pertain to love, loved ones, etc? Force us to write something sappy. Seems only fitting. Trak Nar Ramble on 20:42, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
    • The holiday one crashed and burned, so that might not work...--VGPCOMMLINK 00:34, January 12, 2012 (UTC)
      • Meh, holidays are harder to write about in Star Wars because they're either alien-centric or barely talked about in the Expanded Universe. Writing sappy love stories is a lot easier.--Josh Benderщ(゚Д゚щ) 02:07, January 12, 2012 (UTC)
        • Considering that sappy love stories are what TFN's authors are all about, then yes, writing sappy love stories is easier. :P Trak Nar Ramble on 03:35, January 12, 2012 (UTC)
