The following was a discussion to adopt an updated image policy and an image tutorial. The result of the discussion was that the new image policy was posted here and the new tutorial was posted here.. This forum is an archive. Should you wish to add your opinion on the matter, please do so on the forum's talk page.
Over the last several years months weeks (>.>), I've been working on an update to our woefully out of date and confusing image policy. The main issues I had with it were that it's not very well written, it's confusing, and it doesn't take into account upload methods other than Special:Upload.
Therefore, with the help and input of a number of other users, I've put together a new image policy to replace the old one. The proposed policy can be found here. This policy is simpler, more straightforward, and speaks about all upload methods.
As you can see, there's much less detail, which allows it to be straightforward. For users who require or would like more detailed information, an accompanying image policy tutorial has also been put together. The proposed image tutorial can be found here. Big thanks to Goodwood and Trak Nar for helping to write the tutorial.
Big thanks also go out to Atarumaster88, Fiolli, Michaeldsuarez, TK-999, and all of the other users I may have forgotten who had an input in the years months weeks it took to make this.
This vote is to adopt the image policy AND image tutorial. They're a packaged deal; both are approved or neither are approved, as the policy can't really exist without the expanded tutorial. I should also note that the redlinks in the policy proposal will become regular blue links once the policy is moved to Star Wars Fanon:Image policy.
This CT will last at least one week, Thursday, January 12, 2012, unless more or less time is needed. All matters of the voting policy apply. Please be civil. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 03:59, January 5, 2012 (UTC)

Discussion
Does that mean that sources can come from wiki? --God of Raw(The edge of darkness...) 16:12, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
- You can pull an image from, say, Wookieepedia, but you need to use the original source when you upload the image. Let's say I upload an image of Darth Vader. I might have downloaded it from Wookieepedia, but if the original source was Empire Strikes Back, that's what you list as the source. Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 16:53, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
- Per Ataru. That's discussed in the image tutorial, which I've made clearer in the image policy proposal. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 16:57, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
Notjings changed then. --God of Raw(The edge of darkness...) 16:58, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
- In that regard, you're correct, we haven't changed it. Why would we? Wookieepedia is not a correct source unless an image originated on Wookieepedia, nor is Google a correct source. The image tutorial talks about exceptions for when wikis are valid sources, but, beyond those, they won't be considered one. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 16:59, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
I have two small questions. First, the shortcut is set to be SWF:IMAGE. Right now, the shortcut to the current policy is SWF:I. What do you plan to do to make sure all current SWF:I links do not become redlinks? Second, and less importantly, when you use the {{Sw|articlename}} in the tutorial you leave it as {{sw|articlename}}. Isn't it more "professional" to capitalize the "s"? Anyway, these are two really minor things I just thought I'd mention. Savage1138 17:07, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
- Changing it to SWF:IMAGE in the new policy doesn't delete SWF:I. That will still redirect to the image policy. Second, for the Wookieepedia template, there's that word "professional" again! It doesn't really mean anything, and whether it's Sw or sw doesn't make a difference. I can change it if people feel it should be, but it has nothing to do with professional vs. unprofessional. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 17:58, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, glad to know that will still work. Personally, I would prefer it as Sw, as the first letter in templates is generally capitalized. But that is my personal opinion, and I have no idea how others feel. Savage1138 18:15, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
- I like it as is, without the capitalization.-I'm the Chosen One 03:18, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

Question:about book covers. Lets say i had a blnk page and pasted a picture of Darth Vader on iy. Then i pasted a jedi behind him. Would they have to be soruced? --God of Raw(The edge of darkness...) 17:09, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. Using bullets (*), specify the sources for both in {{Information}} and paste the respective licensing templates beneath the template. TK999 17:11, January 5, 2012 (UTC)
Shouldn't the content policy rules be placed on the Image policy page as well. Some people may miss that if they don't view the tutorial.-I'm the Chosen One 03:13, January 6, 2012 (UTC)
Fiolli: I love it. Just two quick things that I feel are important to clarify (especially given the discussion thus far). Policy section 2, "sources" reads "the primary/original source;" I believe this should be changed to "the primary/original sources" to cover mashup work. Along these same lines, in the tutorial the last sentence of section one reads: "This includes image mashups, collage scenes, and edited screenshots." I think this should state "This includes image mashups, collage scenes, and edited screenshots—of which each source must be cited." (Or, something to that effect.) I just think we should make it crystal clear. Otherwise, I can't find any other loopholes. — Fiolli 23:59, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

- Thanks. I'm aboard. — Fiolli 04:55, January 7, 2012 (UTC)
- Looking over the image tutorial, I noticed screenshots of modified game material doesn't count as "user-made". Most of my pictures are of re-skinned models from mods I've made, and up until now I've put "user-made" on the images. Will I have to go back and change the specs on all my images?
