Form III: Soresu, the Way of the Mynock, or The Resilience Form was the third form of the seven forms of lightsaber combat.
Description[]
While Form II excelled at blade-to-blade combat, it was practically useless against blaster bolts, and suffered accordingly when blasters came into prominence. To combat this weakness, Form III: Soresu was developed. Because blasters were ranged weapons, the Form III designers knew that attacking blaster-wielding opponents was virtually impossible, they created a style that focused completely on a swift defense. Most of Soresu's movements are very quick and simplistic, and thusly highly efficient, helping to overcome the rapidity with which a blaster could be fired.
However, Soresu proved to be easily applied to lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat, as its defense proved to be highly versatile, depending on the type of attack it was combating. For example, a Soresu practitioner would utilize quick and precise parries when combating a Makashi duelist, but use heavy blocks against a Djem So stylist. The basic tactic of a Soresu user would be to essentially wait out the enemy, focus entirely on defense and protecting one's self until the opponent grew frustrated or fatigued and then counter-attack when an opening presented itself.
Soresu bladework is described as extremely efficient, close to the body, never truly fast but just fast enough, never moving the blade a millimeter more than necessary.
While Soresu was undoubtedly efficient, many detractors said that it dangerously prolonged battles to the point where the Form III user himself would be fatigued and brought down. This weakness led to the development of Form IV and Form V.
Philosophy[]
The philosophy of Soresu is described as "being within the eye of the storm." The practitioner remains centered in their mindset, never being moved by what's around them as they stay where the outer chaos cannot harm them.

Strength/ Weakness Ratings[]
Form III, being a defensive form based on, obviously, defense as well as counter-attack, was lacking in the attack applications. However, it more than compensated with an almighty defense, making the user nigh unbeatable.
