The First Battle of Coruscant was a the first battle of the declared Second Mandalorian Wars. The combatants were the Jedi and the Galactic Republic against the Mandalorian Empire. After Sith Emperor Aurelius bombarded the planet of Coruscant and left, much of the vast population had been killed or fatally wounded. It took three days for the Republic and Jedi to arrive with aid. The Republic sent almost 7,000 troops and under a thousand Jedi to scout the planet and bring it back to life. Eight months after reconstruction began, the planet was prospering with life and trade. This made it a prime target, once again.
History[]
The battle begins[]
As the Battle of Yavin IV raged on, Mandalore Jaster Mereel ordered Staff Sergeant Rikenn Tarbann to attack the Republic capital of Coruscant. Rikenn subsequently flew to Mandalore where the ships were located. He went to the bridge of The Insurmountable and went into hyperspace with the rest of the fleet. They arrived hours later at Coruscant where the unsuspecting group of Republic ships waited in orbit and on the ground being repaired.
The Super Shadow Cruisers flew in first and attacked the five capital ships in orbit. They destroyed them almost immediately, but with several hundred fighters lost. The Mandalorians landed their ships as soon as the AA guns were all wiped out. The bombers began many bombing runs to destroyed bunkers, military bases, and ships. Most were successful with few losses. Rikenn personally commanded a squadron of fighters; they took on and destroyed over 30 enemy fighters and transports. The ground forces continued to land as the battle turned in favor of the Mandalorians.
The skirmish at the temple[]
With most of the Republic soldiers and Jedi examining the ruined Jedi Temple, the Mandalorians made it a prime target. It was here the most intense fighting and the heaviest casualties for the Mandalorians occurred. Rikenn took 10,000 troops and marched through the Mandalorian owned streets of Coruscant, heading to the Jedi Temple. The 10,000 troops would face a Republic-Jedi force of 4,500. This would be no match for them.
The Mandalorians underestimated the force. At first, the Jedi and Republic had pushed the Mandalorians back with very few casualties. But, Rikenn learned what to do. He called in air support and artillery strikes that targeted the command posts of the Republic-Jedi forces. It was a good strategy and the Mandalorians were able to storm the Temple. They killed all the Jedi and Republic troops in a matter of days.
The end[]
The Mandalorians had dealt with little rebellions, resistance, and counterattacks for days from Coruscant but eventually, the planet was under total control. The Mandalorians had started a new great crusade against the Republic and, by the results of the start, no one would have guessed what the outcome would have been.
At the end, Rikenn Tarbann found a fleeing general of the Republic with several Jedi and high-ranking Republic officers. Rikenn and his group of Mandalorian Spec Ops fought the escaping enemies. Rikenn dueled General Bosnon and was victorious. Two Jedi and five Republic soldiers were killed by Rikenn. He earned a new rank that battle, 2nd Lieutenant.
