Firax Co'hirr was a Morsian legionary and later traitor in 3,955 BBY.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Firax was born some point prior to 3,955 BBY and like most Morsians, signed up to the Morsian Army. After passing through basic training, Firax joined the 66th Legion and was stationed on Mors. While in the 66th, Firax met and served with the legionary Marridum Ra'akdoon, who joined later and was initially a legionary but promoted to centurion of Firax's cohort after exemplary combat, causing the resentment of Firax.
Siege of Mors[]
Firax was serving under Ra'akdoon in his cohort when the Sith Empire invaded Mors in 3,955 BBY, commencing the Siege of Mors. Under orders, Ra'akdoon led his men to defend the Old Temple District near to the capital city of Malum. This caused Firax to question his orders and attempt to rebuttal and belittle Ra'akdoon. Ra'akdoon silenced him and they moved to the Temple District, where Firax once again attempted to belittle Ra'akdoon, who took no notice.
We only have three MBWs and a few heavy blasters. How do you expect us to hold off several battalions of Sith troops with only 100 legionaries?
—Firax panicking at the start of the assault
Defending the Old Temple District[]
When combat started, Firax was generally quiet as their cohort fought their way to the District, however when there, he started to panic when confronted with the prospect of holding off a far greater number of Sith troops, once again confronting Ra'akdoon in panic. Ra'akdoon silenced him with a threat, but upon seeing the rest of the legion overwhelmed from their position, he attempted to persuade Ra'akdoon to fall back from their position into the capital. Ra'akdoon silenced him with a slap and he returned to his position. When combat started, Firax fought alongside the other legionaries, despite mutterings and comments during lulls in the fighting.
Upon the arrival of Sith Walkers to their position, Firax once again panicked and attempted to complain, but Ra'akdoon grabbed him by the collar and silenced him with a threat. He had no time to complain as the position slowly collapsed and Sith troops overran their position, resulting in brutal hand-to-hand combat and the semi-organized retreat of their cohort back to the defensive positions of Malum. Firax was one of the few legionaries to escape from the hill into the city.
Prato? The man’s a standard bearer! He’s not fit to command a standard, let alone 100 men!
—Firax horrified at his non-promotion
Regrouping in Malum[]
When Firax reached Malum, he expected the legion's Legate to congratulate him on escaping the hill, however he was instead berated for loosing the legion's standard, which was with their cohort on the hill, bringing shame to the legion. This riled him and was only exacerbated at the re-appearance of Ra'akdoon, whom he thought was dead, who squashed his dreams of possible promotion due to losses when shown the helmet of a Centurion Maximum, who Ra'akdoon had been promoted to by the Legate thanks to rescuing the legion's standard with him from the hill. Further insult to him was the knowledge that he was not replacing Ra'akdoon as the centurion of the cohort, which was instead going to Prato Gra’artium, the current standard bearer. Firax ranted and raved, though little around him paid attention. When Ra'akdoon gave a speech to the troops, which now consisted of the remaining forces of the 38th, 44th and 12th Legions, Firax was the only one to not be cheering.
Sith on our doorstep and the Centurion Maximum here is worried about some rain!
—Firax belittling Ra'akdoon at the decision to fall back
Retreat into the city[]
Upon hearing that the 66th was retreating into the city due to an incoming acid storm, Firax was back to his usual self and tried to once again turn the troops against Marridum who ordered them to head into the city. This rewarded him with a smack on his helmet from the Legate's lightsaber hilt, an angry shouted rebuttal as well as various insults where he was told that the storm above would force the Sith forces underground and force combat onto the hard pressed legion. They were moving underground to set up new positions in preparation for the Sith assault.
Why are we acting as rear-guard again?
—Firax' grumbling
The new defensive line[]
Firax was no longer in Ra'akdoon's cohort, who had now gone on to command 5 cohorts so he was unable to serve directly on the front line. Firax served in the cohort now commanded by Prato and continued to complain and pass snide remarks, though little paid attention to him. When the combat ramped up, Firax served as well as any legionary until the Sith overran their positions. Supposedly bombarded by explosives, their defensive emplacements collapsed, Prato was wounded and the legionaries fell back, Firax amongst them. When Ra'akdoon questioned him about the whereabouts of Prato, Firax simply shrugged and refused to give an answer before continuing to fall back. Ra'akdoon later discovered while searching for Prato that Firax lied, as the defences were still intact with little explosive damage.
Because I’m not a whiny... cowardly... insubordinate... useless... disloyal... stupid little pile of unorganised dirty Rancor droppings!
—Ra'akdoon berating Firax while beating him
Recuperation at the Legionary Fortress deeper in Malum[]
Firax managed to retreat safely to deeper in the city and arrived at the same Legionary Fortress that Ra'akdoon and surviving cohorts of the legion arrived at later. He was present during the debriefing held in the fortress for the surviving 66th Legion soldiers and once again was the only one not happy at Ra'akdoons new promotion to Centurion Imperator Maxius. Distraught and seething at his perceived unfair treatment for his years of service, as Ra'akdoon addressed the troops, Firax passed comments after each line, resulting in a beating by Ra'akdoon that left Firax unconscious and hospitalised in the fortress' hospital.
I’m going to kill you and drag your body back myself if need be. Nothing will stand in my way. For too long I have been denied promotion, but with your death, I will surely save the Emperor and our people. Then it will be Marridum who will bow to me, not the other way around
—Firax's raving to Darth Mortem
Escape and betrayal[]
Waking some time later from his unconsciousness, crazy with anger and rage, Firax escaped the hospital after assaulting an orderly that happened into the ward at the time of his escape. He attempted to escape via the main gate to the fortress, but the watch centurion spotted him and attempted to stop him. Blinded by rage, Firax took out his lightsaber and killed the centurion before he could process his actions. Momentarily horrified at what he had done, Firax continued with his escape as he would now certainly be killed for killing an officer. After escaping the fortress, he assaulted another centurion who tried to stop him before crossing the new Morsian defensive line to track down Darth Mortem, the Morsian Sith leading the assault. Firax tracked him down and was determined to kill Mortem, but after Mortem sensed his rage, he turned Firax on his comrades and persuaded him to work for the Sith Empire's cause with promise of a high ranking promotion at the end of it, along with other rewards.
Capture and death[]
Firax accompanied Darth Mortem as the Sith forces broke through the inner city defenses and Mortem himself trailed the Morsian Emperor to either kill or capture him. Firax was assigned to Mortem so the Sith could keep an eye on him during the final phase of the siege. He was present at the Imperial Museum of History when the 66th Legion made their stand against the Sith infantry following them, starting the Battle of the Imperial Museum of History. Firax took little active part in the fighting but joined the assault when the Sith infantry started to overrun the Morsian defensive positions set up in the museum atrium. Firax was spotted by Ra'akdoon who made a beeline for him, engaging him in melee combat. Firax, still overwhelmed by rage, fought Ra'akdoon in a duel, which both Morsian and Sith infantry respected and did not interfere with. Despite heavily injuring Ra'akdoon, Firax was overpowered by Ra'akdoon and heavily injured himself, eventually being beaten and blacking out from both blood loss and his injuries. Upon the successful Morsian victory in the battle, Firax was captured, tied up and taken to a nearby legionary fortress for holding as a prisoner. While showing remorse for his actions and pleading for mercy, he was summarily found guilty of numerous serious crimes, not least of which was treason, and soon crucified along with other captured fanatical Sith infantry and officers in front of the Imperial Palace in Malum.
Legacy[]
Firax's body remained on the crucifix as long as possible, only being removed when it started to literally fall off due to decomposition. When removed, the body was swiftly disposed of in an unmarked grave somewhere on the surface of Mors. His name was vilified to the Morsian people and his story told as a warning of what happens to Morsian traitors. Even several thousand years later during the Clone Wars, Firax's name was still spoken of with disgust and hatred by the Morsian people.
Personality[]
Firax was an able soldier, but very hot headed and somewhat easily scared, which possibly contributed to his failure to getting promoted. When combat heated up and started to get desperate, Firax was one of the first to show panic and attempt to pursued his comrades to flee to safety, regardless of his orders. He was also self centred, believing himself to be superior to Marridum, since he had served longer and so felt he was 'more deserving' of a promotion, despite Marridum's superior soldiering and officerly qualities.
As he was hot headed, he was easily angered, with just one or two comments leading to him shouting or threatening violence. Despite this, he usually backed down when confronted or taken up on his offer, falling into silence and stillness when threatened himself on one of his challenges. Though he could be an able soldier, his façade of bravado and underlying cowardly tendencies meant he was willing to sacrifice anyone but himself for his own gains.
Firax gained an underlying resentment to all ranks higher than his own upon his failure to be promoted to Centurion. This often resulted in the questioning of orders, attempted undermining of authority or direct challenging of a given order. This decreased his standing with both his comrades and officers of the legion, who saw him as a troublemaker.
Relation to others[]
Legionaries of the 66th Legion[]
Firax originally had a neutral relationship with his fellow legionaries, but upon being skipped promotion in favor of Marridum Ra'akdoon, his comrades soon came to dislike or hate him. This was due to the constant bickering with his new centurion and general hot-headedness shown as a result, his fellow legionaries started to keep away from him when they could. His changed demeanour extended to his cowardly tendencies that made his comrades nervous around him, worried that he may abandon them in the heat of battle. The legionaries would often challenge him on his constant bickering or complaining, and upon hearing of his betrayal and abandonment of the legion, none of his comrades were surprised and a few were relived at his disappearance. Upon his capture, all of his comrades watched him being crucified outside of the Imperial Palace.
Marridum Ra'akdoon[]
While Firax may have originally had a neutral relationship with Marridum as soldiers, this quickly fell to resentment and eventually blind hatred to his once comrade. When first joining the legion, Firax was neutral to Marridum other than soldierly comradery, however this changed upon Marridum's promotion to Centurion, where Firax's resentment began. Firax belittled or challenged Marridum every opportunity he got and attempted to undermine Marridum's position of authority every chance he could. This extended to constant complaining and even attempts to leave his Centurion to die, though this never succeeded. The situation was only exacerbated and Firax's hatred grew as Marridum was promoted during the Siege of Mors twice more. This blind hatred was what ultimately resulted in his betrayal to the Sith following a beating from his arch-enemy. It was Marridum himself who eventually apprehended Firax during the final battle fought during the siege, despite heavy injuries sustained by both. Firax's hatred of Marridum died with him when he was crucified.
Decante Farr’un[]
Firax generally respected his Legate, Decante Farr’un, though this relationship worsened after he was ignored for promotion in favor of Marridum. While Firax had enough control to not outright speak out against his commanding officer, he was not above making remarks about him behind his back or attempting to undermine Marridum whilst Decante was present. When confronted by his senior officer, however, Firax was too cowardly to talk back, resulting in a poor relationship with the Legate. Decante viewed Firax as a poor soldier and when Firax was revealed to have betrayed the legion, Decante was not surprised. Though he did not fight directly against his now ex-commanding officer, Decante was still present when Firax was crucified, bearing no sympathy for the traitor.
Prato Gra’artium[]
Firax had a low opinion of the legion's standard bearer, Prato Gra’artium. Though he was originally neutral to the man, this changed during the Siege of Mors when, after a recommendation by Marridum, Prato was promoted to Centurion over Firax. This grew his resentment of Prato, where Firax saw himself above him, especially in terms of being an officer. This culminated in Firax's abandonment of Prato during the legion's next combat during the siege, where Firax abandoned Prato as the Sith forces overran their positions. While Marridum managed to locate and save Prato, Firax showed no remorse for his actions, something Prato only learned after awaking from his coma after the siege, by which point Firax had been crucified.
Raaldun Seprii’ak[]
Firax's relationship with Raaldun Seprii’ak, his Centurion Maximum, was of a similar stance to that with his Legate. However, Firax was less afraid of Raaldun, willing to question his orders so long as the officer himself was not there, showing his resentment of all ranks higher than himself. When Firax's cohort was ordered to hold a strategic hill at the opening of the Siege of Mors, Firax indirectly questioned his orders to Marridum, who defended the orders and therefore Raaldun from Firax. When Raaldun was killed and Firax learned of the death of the officer, he showed no pity and was more concerned with himself who was not promoted to the rank in his wake.
Darth Mortem[]
While Firax had a hatred for the Morsian Sith, like all other Morsians, his hatred of Marridum eventually overrode his fear and hatred of the Sith to lead him to serving under him. During the beginning of the Siege of Mors, it was his fear of the Sith that led to him nearly abandoning his comrades, though he eventually stayed until their final retreat. When he was hospitalised later during the siege, his state of mind had deteriorated to the point that his hatred of Marridum overrode his fear of Mortem when he escaped to attempt to kill the Sith, under his own constructed idea that bringing news that he had slain the Sith would fix all his problems. However, his fragmented state of mind made him easy for Mortem to manipulate for his own use. Firax continued to unwittingly serve Mortem under the lie that if the Sith won the siege, Firax would be given a position of high power. When the Sith routed from the siege, Mortem had no qualms about abandoning Firax, giving him no second though as the Sith escaped the planet and leaving Firax to his fate.
Skills and abilities[]
Firax was trained in the Morsian way of fighting during his initial training for the legions, making him competent at firing a Blaster as well as following orders with efficiency. Under the legion training program, Firax also learned how to wield a Lightsaber and personal energy shield which he could use in close quarters combat. He was trained in how to form melee formations with these melee weapons and so was competent at all forms of Morsian fighting.
Equipment[]
Like all legionaries, Firax carried with him a blaster carbine on a sling, with his being an E-3 blaster carbine. He also carried a lightsaber and energy shield emitter on his belt for melee fighting, something also standard for Morsian legionaries. Other standard issue equipment included a couple of Thermal Detonators. Firax always wore his black military tunic along with his legionary helmet, segmented armor, arm guards, leg armor and armored gauntlets and sandals.
