You blind, utter fool! I am a god! I have experienced pain and torment beyond your realm of conscience. Where it had crushed the weak, it had made me strong. I am Lord Sithis! Death has rejected me! My former, mortal shell had broken under the weight of my immeasurable power. Everything that has happened was because of my indomitable will! Lay down your feeble weapon and surrender yourself. Only through obedience can you be saved.
—Lord Sithis to Luke Skywalker

Lord Sithis, also known as Psijii to the Voss, Yun-Yuuzhan to the Yuuzhan Vong, the Deep One to the inhabitants of the Coruscant underworld, known for the vast majority of his life as Darth Nox and formerly as the Sith Lord Menelag Kallig was an immensely powerful Dark Lord of the Sith who served the Sith Empire during the Cold War, Galactic War, the New Sith in the New Sith Wars, and the Order of the Sith Lords during the Clone Wars.

Born in 3660 BBY simply as Menelag, the future Dark Lord started at the bottom of the ladder as a slave on Ziost. Menelag was extremely well-adapted in the Force at a young age. During his childhood, the young Sith pureblood was subjected to intense cruelties at the hand of his sadistic Imperial overseers, which included the death of his little sister and his forced separation from his parents. In an act of revenge, he blasted his tormentors with Force lightning but instead of being executed for attacking his masters, Menelag was taken as a Sith acolyte to Korriban to train in the ways of the Sith.

As the future Darth Nox succeeded in overcoming all of the trials imposed by the academy's masters and instructors, Menelag rose in the hierarchy, embracing the way of the Sith Inquisitor. Menelag was apprenticed by Darth Zash, a female Sith Lord and member of the Sphere of Ancient Knowledge.

During his rise to power, Menelag developed a bitter rivalry with Darth Thanaton, a powerful Dark Lord of the Sith and a member of the Empire's Dark Council. The antagonism between the two Sith was brought to an end when the Inquisitor defeated Thanaton on the very floor of the Council chamber, occupying his seat on the Dark Council, as the Dark Councilor heading the Sphere of Ancient Knowledge.

Lord Sithis was the true architect behind the Rule of Two along with his apprentice, Darth Bane. Years before that, Lord Sithis tried to reconstitute the Sith Empire for the third time four thousand years after his first death by turning the Jedi Masters Phanius and Skere Kaan to the Dark Side and allowing Phanius to found the New Sith Order by simultaneously renaming Phanius "Darth Ruin", and allowing Skere Kaan to form the Brotherhood of Darkness, and taking them as his secret apprentices. After his first death at the hands of the Mirialan Jedi Master Ch'vyalthan sometime before 3500 BBY, Sithis, who back then was known as the Dark Councilor Darth Nox, performed a series of Darkside rituals to transfer his essence outside of his body to cheat death.

After this event, the bodiless Dark Lord was hellbent on restoring the Sith Empire to greatness. In his quest to doing so, Nox renamed himself Lord Sithis, in honor of the Sith. He discarded his slave heritage and donned himself the true successor to Emperor Vitiate and Naga Sadow.

Thanks to the combined efforts of Luke Skywalker and the New Jedi Order, they managed to trap Sithis' soul on the prison planet Belsavis. Because of the fact that Sithis' was "refused entry" onto any of the Force-aligned afterlives, the Jedi had no choice but to put his spirit in a state of permanent stasis. However, shortly before being trapped, the Dark Lord released an ear-piercing Force scream that called out to the Yuuzhan Vong from beyond the galaxy, whom he had successfully manipulated into believing that he was one of their deities, to ravage the galaxy in his name.

Speaking Lord Sithis' name was a great taboo. Therefore, when people were referring to him, they would use the terms He-who-must-not-be-named or You-know-who. In writing terms, Sithis' name would be spelled as PSJJJJ, a name that was meant to be unpronounceable.

Biography[]

Early life and ancestry[]

Childhood on Ziost[]

Where does Darth Nox come from?"
"
Ziost, apparently. Some say he was born a slave. The most powerful Sith Lord in centuries, born a slave. Ironic, isn't it?

—Master Ch'vyalthan and Jedi Knight Volarik

The Sith slave named Menelag was born in 3660 BBY on Ziost, the adopted Red Sith homeworld that was subservient to the resurgent Sith Empire. Born a slave, Menelag was in truth, albeit unknowingly, a descendant of the legendary, but long forgotten, Sith Lord Aloysius Kallig. As a child, Menelag worked in the summer palace of the sector's Moff, who displayed utter cruelty to the planet's inhabitants, including the young Menelag.

Kallig family

Menelag recently discovered that he was Force-sensitive, but kept that secret to himself. Menelag himself was fairly suspicious about his Force-sensitivity, since both of his parents, who were slaves as well, were not Force-sensitive. During his childhood, Menelag was forced to separate from his parents; while he and his sister worked at the Moff's own personal summer palace. However, as Menelag reached adolescence, his sister was killed on the orders of the Moff after supposedly "shirking her duties". This act fueled Menelag's anger and immersion in the dark side. In revenge, he attacked the sadistic Moff and very nearly killed him by blasting him with Force lightning. The severely injured Moff demanded that Menelag should be executed for his crimes but instead, the Sith Order were pleased with the young Sith's display of raw power, and instead took him to the Sith Academy on Korriban to train him in the ways of the Sith Inquisitor.

Training on Korriban[]

The young Sith acolyte performed exemplary service on Korriban. Besting every other acolyte on the academy in terms of strength, wits and power.
—An unknown Sith historian.

After being taken by the Sith to the Sith Academy on Korriban, the young Menelag was assigned to the xenophobic and pure-blood supremacist Overseer Harkun who was instructing other non-Imperial Sith, whom he held in contempt, especially former slaves. The Overseer made no attempt to hide his disdain as he openly discriminated against Menelag in favor of another acolyte in the group, a pureblooded Sith named Ffon Althe. After a brief introduction upon the Acolytes' arrival, Harkun assigned Menelag his first quest: to travel into Ajunta Pall's tomb and be tested by Lord Spindrall.

After killing some K'lor'slugs and tomb looters along the way, Menelag finally reached Spindrall, who tested the young Acolyte by sending his own six acolytes to attack. Menelag easily defeated them all, passing the test and leaving the tomb thereafter. Successful, the Acolyte returned to Harkun, who was awaiting the former slave in the Sith Academy, but not without first meeting an assistant Overseer called Markan, who introduced Menelag to some core Sith tenets.

Back in Harkun's office, Harkun executed an acolyte, Kory, for her weakness and not living up to her potential before assigning Menelag to a quest in the Academy's jail, which Lord Zash herself had requested for him. In the jail, Inquisitor Zyn told Menelag to interrogate a weak acolyte named Alif; Menelag succeeded, getting the answer from Alif in the process. Harkun then proceeded to assign both Menelag and Ffon to different trials of intellect. While Ffon's task was less dangerous, as he merely had to translate some ancient texts, Menelag's task was to travel to Marka Ragnos's tomb and recover an ancient holocron. Menelag fought through hordes of Tuk'ata and Shyracks to reach the objective but succeeded nonetheless, retrieving the Holocron through the use of Force lightning.

At the same time the Acolyte was gaining renown for the feats performed in the tombs. Upon returning to Harkun, the Overseer was both surprised and displeased that the Acolyte had survived and was quick to send the Acolyte on another difficult task.

The Dashade and final trials[]

Your final trial will be to retrieve an ancient map from the innermost chamber of Naga Sadow's tomb—which has never been breached in thousands of years.
—Overseer Harkun[src]

Menelag was sent by Harkun, at Lord Zash's request, to recover a text on Tulak Hord's tomb as part of Zash's research on the ancient Dark Lord's artifacts. As before, Menelag succeeded in this task, retrieving the archived text. Upon returning to the Academy, Menelag was met by Lord Zash herself, who complimented the Acolyte's success. She told him she had great hopes and that Menelag was likely to become the apprentice she was looking for.

Menelag then met and delivered the artifact to Harkun in his office. The Overseer refused to believe Menelag had met Zash and sent him to the Academy's training facility. Upon arriving in the training facility, Menelag was met by two of Harkun's other students who had been assigned to slay the Acolyte in exchange for their freedom. Menelag, however, proved too strong and easily defeated the other two.

Realizing the assignment had been a trap, Menelag returned to Harkun, who then assigned him on his final task. He wanted Menelag to retrieve an ancient map from Naga Sadow's tomb, which first required releasing a sentient beast called the Dashade. Zash interrupted the conversation and gave Menelag the translated text that was previously retrieved from Tulak Hord's tomb. This information, which was needed to reach the ancient map, gave the young Acolyte a great advantage over Harkun's final and favorite remaining student, Ffon.

Khem

Khem Val, the ancient Dashade assassin of Tulak Hord.

Menelag breached the tomb, destroyed the droid guardians protecting it, and released the Dashade, whom he then learned was Tulak Hord's renowned, ancient assassin named Khem Val. Upon release, the powerful creature immediately attacked the Acolyte but was ultimately defeated. In accordance with Dashade tradition, he pledged loyalty to the one who had bested him, giving Menelag a powerful servant and companion. He continued the task, defeating many droids in his path and even an ancient beast called a Terentatek before recovering the map.

Menelag delivered the ancient map to Harkun, who had been arguing with Ffon about getting the map was impossible. The Overseer was quick to snatch the map out of Menelag's hands and give it to Ffon just as Lord Zash appeared. Zash, seeing the map now in Ffon's hands but knowing it wasn't he who recovered it, asked him to tell the truth. Ffon, fearing the consequences of lying to a Sith Lord, told Zash the truth and she killed him with Force lightning, and instructing Menelag, Harkun's last surviving charge, to meet her at her office. Menelag complied and Lord Zash accepted the young Acolyte as her Sith apprentice, telling him to meet her next in the Empire's capital of Dromund Kaas, where her new apprentice could develop his skills. First, however, she gave Menelag her old lightsaber as a gift.

Apprenticeship to Zash[]

Young Zash

Darth Zash, Menelag's Sith master.

While preparing to leave the Academy and travel to the capital, Menelag was met by another Sith apprentice, Ortosin, who brought an ultimatum from his master, Darth Skotia, Zash's superior. Menelag reluctantly refused and a duel ensued, in which Menelag killed Ortosin and the two thugs that accompanied him. Menelag then departed to the Imperial's Navy Headquarters, a massive space station called Vaiken Spacedock. There the Apprentice met Overseer Kryos who helped the new apprentice decide which path to take: the Sith sorcerer or the Sith assassin. Menelag chose to walk the path of the Sith sorcerer, wanting to uncover the hidden mysteries of the Sith.

Defeating Darth Skotia[]

Mindless... you don't know what Zash can do. Think—think of how many years she must have spent plotting my death. She will kill you. Just like... she's killed... me.
"When that day comes, I'll be ready for her."

—Exchange between Darth Skotia and Menelag

On arrival to Dromund Kaas, Menelag was received by Darth Skotia himself and his two Trandoshan bodyguards, who threatened the young Apprentice yet again, also telling him to warn Zash that he holds the key. After leaving the spaceport Menelag completed several tasks assigned by Imperial officers who were having numerous troubles with slave rebels, deserters and the planet's own creatures.

Menelag then reached Kaas City, the capital, and traveled to the Imperial Citadel where Zash awaited him at her office. Menelag immediately told her about Skotia's warnings and she revealed her plan to have her apprentice assassinate the cyborg Dark Lord by first exploring his cybernetics weaknesses. She then told Menelag that the first step was to discover what Skotia was hiding and sent him on a mission to investigate and extract information from Skotia's former slaves who had now rebelled.

Menelag succeeded and then infiltrated Darth Skotia's bunker. There, Menelag slew Skotia's guard including many Sith and even one Sith Lord, Ogathu, before retrieving a relic that controlled Skotia's Trandoshan bodyguards.

Menelag then returned to the Citadel and gave the relic to Lord Zash. Zash, knowing controlling the Trandoshans wouldn't be enough to defeat Skotia, sent Menelag on one more mission to retrieve a weapon that could destroy cybernetics noting that Skotia was mostly a cyborg and it would be effective against him. The weapon had been created by a scientist named Dorotsech who was being held captive by the rogue Sith Lord Grathan.

Menelag infiltrated Grathan's base and after killing everyone that stood in his path, the young Sith discovered Dorotsech who gave Menelag the weapon's location. Menelag then retrieved the weapon but not without killing Dorotsech first, leaving no witnesses for what had happened in Grathan's estate. When Menelag returned to Zash she decided her apprentice was ready and finally assigned the young Sith to kill Darth Skotia.

Skotia death

Menelag brings Darth Skotia to his knees.

Menelag met Darth Skotia yet again in his office, knowing that they needed to get close enough to use the anti-cyborg weapon, Menelag used the Trandoshan relic to turn Skotia's bodyguards on him but Skotia easily killed them, stating that they were only for show. Darth Skotia then proceeded to attack Menelag but the latter used the Cybernetics weapon on him. The weapon didn't kill Skotia but weakened him enough for the Apprentice to engage. The duel ensued and Menelag was victorious after slaying Darth Skotia; with his dying breath, Skotia warned the Apprentice that Zash would turn on him too. As the cyborg collapses on the floor, Menelag promised to face Zash when the time comes.

Menelag then went to the cantina, where Lord Zash was contacted by Darth Thanaton who accused her of slaying Skotia. Zash, having a concrete alibi, refused such accusations and was promoted to the Darth title in front of her apprentice. Menelag then returned to Skotia's -- now Zash's -- office, where Lords Kirnon and Calaverous were investigating the scene of the murder. Menelag was asked of how Darth Zash had slain Skotia and Menelag simply replied that he killed Skotia instead, knowing that the two Sith Lords wouldn't believe him.

The search for Tulak Hord's artifacts[]

Eventually sent to the Dark Temple on Dromund Kaas by Zash, Menelag discovered ancient roots to a Sith Lord, a one-time friend and greatest enemy of the ancient Dark Lord Tulak Hord, Aloysius Kallig. The ghost of Kallig recognized Menelag to be of his bloodline and the means to restore his family name to greatness. He warned the Inquisitor that the Sith play an endless game of treachery, a game his heir must win. He advises to beware the master and apprentice and never to be taken by surprise.

Also while at the temple, Menelag found a relic of Tulak Hord captured millennia earlier by Kallig before his death. After learning of his ancestry and recovering the artifact, he ventured back to Darth Zash and learned that many other such artifacts were hidden around the galaxy. Menelag was then given the task of finding these artifacts on Balmorra, Nar Shaddaa, Tatooine, and Alderaan.

Balmorra[]

Darth Zash instructed Menelag to recover an artifact sealed in Vault 305 on Balmorra. The contact on Balmorra was Major Bessiker. He and his assistant revealed that the vault was converted to a toxic waste storage facility and was overrun by colicoids. Menelag had to synthesize a colicoid serum which provided immunity to the toxic waste inside Vault 305. The first step was searching the records of Balmorran scientists who engineered the colicoids to be resistant to the toxic waste and that allowed them to even feed on it. After learning the data that described how to create the serum, Menelag had to find Iannos Tyrek, who was the only person with expertise to produce it. After Tyrek was brought back to base, Bessiker refused to produce the serum unless Menelag first helped him free his son Hiran who was recently captured by the Republic. Menelag didn't take the extortion lightly but eventually agreed to "help" him. When storming the prison on Gorinth Plateau, Hiran was found in one of the cells. He was a Sith himself and revealed that he obtained some sort of weapon. Menelag wanted the weapon and killed the fellow Sith as a result. Upon returning to the base, Major Bessiker was furious and attacked Menelag. The Apprentice was forced to kill the Major and promote his assistant to his position. The assistant ordered Tyrek to produce the serum which was used to give immunity to toxins inside the vault. As a result Menelag successfully recovered the artifact.

Nar Shaddaa[]

The third artifact was held by a Sith Lord named Paladius on Nar Shaddaa. Paladius manipulated and exploited the poverty of the Nar Shaddaa population to form a personal cult. Menelag first met with Destris Veran and Rylee Dray, former followers of the cult who were promised to be given control of the cult in exchange for their assistance. Menelag decided that best way to weaken Paladius was to draw his followers away from him. The first step was to build up his reputation by eliminating the notorious Krayt Gang leaders. The next step was to demonstrate Menelag's "immense powers" to Paladius' followers which would sway them away from him. The plan was to produce quakes beneath the ground by an explosion. The detonator was obtained from Gron Mandel. After that, Menelag showed up at Meridian Hall where Paladius rallied his followers and was giving them a speech by hologram. During the speech, Menelag mocked Paladius and told the gathered followers to witness his own miraculous abilities, using the detonator to produce an enormous groundquake. The followers started to worship the Apprentice, despite Paladius' attempts to convince them that it was a fraud. Shortly afterwards, Paladius contacted Menelag and offered the artifact in exchange of leaving him in control of the cult. They met in his headquarters where he tried a double-cross Menelag by stripping him of the ability to use the Force. Nevertheless he was defeated in lightsaber combat. Menelag then recovered the artifact and took over the control of his cult.

Kallig's Countenance[]

During the search for the artifacts, Kallig interrupted his descendant. He was suspicious of Zash's intentions and wanted Menelag to be prepared. Recently, he discovered that his old Sith mask was in the possession of Lord Khreusis. He tasked Menelag to recover it. Menelag found Lord Khreusis on Korriban and slew him to take the mask as his own.

Tatooine[]
Andronikos Revel

Menelag met Andronikos Revel on Tatooine.

The next artifact was in hands of pirates who found a refuge on Tatooine. Menelag was tasked to find Andronikos Revel who was a leader of the pirate crew before his first mate Sylas Wilkes betrayed him and took his favorite blasters. Seeking revenge, Andronikos helped the apprentice find his old first mate through his former girlfriend Casey Rix, who was also part of the crew. They found out that Wilkes too was betrayed by the crew, who then took the artifact, as well as Andronikos' blasters, and went into the dune sea. Menelag followed them and found logs which indicated that the pirate crew was driven insane by the artifact's power. The artifact was recovered from the body of one of the pirates. At that point, Andronikos joined Menelag's crew.

Alderaan[]

The last artifact was in possession of House Organa on Alderaan. Menelag met with Elana Thul who was helping him during the mission on Alderaan. By gathering some information, it was revealed that the artifact was secured in one of the Elysium vaults and the key to the vault was in the hands of Jedi Master Nomar Organa. By breaking into House Alde's library and searching through old records, Menelag discovered that he and Rehanna of House Rist were once in love but Nomar cancelled the marriage to become a Jedi. Through manipulation, Menelag managed to lure Normar into coming to Alderaan where he was killed. The key was taken from his body and the artifact was stolen from the Organas in the Elysium vaults.

Kallig's lightsaber[]

Kallig contacted his descendant once again. This time he wanted him to claim his old lightsaber which was given to Jonas Escalus for keeping. The last descendant of Escalus at that time was Mila Escalus who was working on Nar Shaddaa. Menelag tracked her down in one of the casinos. She revealed that her father gambled the lightsaber to a criminal named Gyl Rosen. Menelag went to meet with Gyl but he refused to give away the lightsaber. He was then killed and the lightsaber was reclaimed by Kallig's descendant.

Zash's ritual[]

Listen, apprentice. Various Force rituals have helped me maintain my appearance and some of my vitality. But inevitably, life fades. I'm dying, apprentice. My will, my intellect, my spirit are as lively as ever, but this body is dying.
—Darth Zash
Old Zash

Zash reveals her true form.

After acquiring all of Tulak Hord's artifacts, Darth Zash asked her apprentice Menelag to return to the Dark Temple on Dromund Kaas to begin the ritual.

Accompanied by Khem, Menelag returned to the Dark Temple. He discovered that Zash had aged rapidly from increased exposure to the dark side, barely kept at bay by her rituals. Now, she sought to use Hord's artifacts to forcibly take her apprentice's body. But before she could complete the ritual, Khem interrupted. Though her body died, Zash's spirit wound up in Khem's body. Furious at Menelag's betrayal, Zash threatened to use Khem to exact her revenge. However, Zash discovered that because of the Dashade's bond to his master, she too was bound to serve her own apprentice. Worse, she had to fight Khem for dominance of his body.

Shortly afterward, Darth Zash's other apprentices, Corrin and Kaal, arrived and noticed the body of their master. Kaal accused Menelag of murdering Zash and attacked. Corrin quickly broke the fight and explained that Zash had a dream that consisted of Menelag killing the master and would lead the Sith to glory. Zash's apprentices then dedicated their loyalty to the new Sith Lord and bowed.

Lord of the Sith[]

You are Lord Kallig now. It was once a glorious name, use it well.
—Aloysius Kallig
Behold, the heir of Kallig, slayer of Zash, successor of Tulak Hord, Lord of the Sith. Now, bow!
—Khem Val announcing the rise of Lord Kallig to Zash's followers

Force walking[]

Despite inheriting Zash's power base and the title of Sith Lord, the victory was not to last. Darth Thanaton, an emissary to the Dark Council and a staunch traditionalist, sent Lord Kallig into the tomb of Darth Andru, expecting his foe to become the deceased Sith Lord's latest victim. Only Aloysius's timely intervention prevented that. To gain more power to defeat Thanaton, Aloysius instructed Kallig to go to the tomb of the Sith Lord Ergast to learn the Force walk, a ritual that can bind Force ghosts and draw on their power. After binding both Ergast and Andru's spirits, Kallig returned to face Thanaton, but the Dark Lord still proved more powerful and seemingly killed him. Luckily, the two ghosts kept Kallig from dying and Zash's other former apprentices saved their new Master before Kallig's body was disposed of.

ForceWalked

In search for power, Lord Kallig performed Force walk ritual to bind several ghosts across the galaxy.

Taris[]

Requiring more power before facing Thanaton, Kallig headed to Taris to find another ghost, Kalatosh Zavros. After acquiring the ghost, as well as a new apprentice named Ashara Zavros, Kallig picked up a distress call from Quesh, as Zash's apprentices had stolen the key to Thanaton's private meditation chamber. Kallig managed to gain the key but failed to save the apprentices. On Zash's suggestion, Kallig returned to Korriban to select a new apprentice, to maintain their standing in Sith society. Kallig chose to observe the latest slave group being handled by Harkun. Kallig had high hopes for the Kaleesh, whom Harkun called Xalek.

Hoth[]

Kallig headed to Hoth after Andronikos Revel told him that there were rumors of a ghost on the frozen planet. After arriving on Hoth, Kallig met with Imperial Reclamation Service officer Talos Drellik. When the Sith Lord met him, Drellik was searching for a rumored hidden temple in The Bitter End. After encountering a force ghost of Horak-mul, who was using the body of an Ortolan, Kallig was ordered to desecrate the temple Talos Drellik had been looking for, a temple of Naga Sadow. Despite Drellik's pleas not to destroy everything in the temple, Kallig destroyed every last artifact. Approvingly, Horak-Mul told Kallig to find him in the Star of Coruscant, which had crashed in the Starship Graveyard. Refusing to sign a pact of blood with Horak-Mul, Kallig was attacked by Kaleesh assassins. However, Kallig proved too strong, and once he had overpowered the Kaleesh, Kallig bound Horak-Mul.

Confronting Darth Thanaton[]

Kallig then returned to Dromund Kaas to face Thanaton in his private meditation chamber. He killed Thanaton's apprentice Rolan, but as the Lord turned to face Thanaton, the power of four ghosts suddenly went out of Kallig's control. His body started failing and the ghosts threatened to drive the young Sith insane.

Locating a cure[]

Invading Thanaton's private library[]

After returning to the ship, Zash went on a search to find a cure for her master. She shortly realized that Thanaton made a switch to the journals of Darth Iratus and Darth Vilus as they had suffered similar problems. Kallig then invaded Thanaton's Private Library, used Force persuasion on the guard captain, and recovered the real journals. The Sith learned that Iratus went to Belsavis and Vilus to Voss to find a cure, but had failed in their search. As Zash and Ashara began researching the planets, Kallig went to Korriban to check up on Harkun. The overseer put his credits on a Gran acolyte, though Kallig still favored Xalek.

Belsavis[]

On Belsavis, Kallig retraced Iratus' steps in the attempt to heal the decaying body. There Kallig managed to find an ancient Rakata Mother Machine and, in exchange for Kallig's DNA, the Rakatan Warden Gorshaa, helped recreate Kallig's body so that he can withstand the physical strain of using the ghosts.

A new ally[]

Upon returning to the ship, Kallig received a call from Moff Valion Pyron, who offered to ally with the young Sith against Thanaton. He explained that to win other Moffs to Kallig's cause, they need to prove that Kallig is more worthy of leading the Empire than Thanaton. His solution was a fleet-killing superweapon, codename Silencer, a project which Thanaton scrapped, claiming that the Force was superior to any new technology. What was left to complete the weapon was a CN-12 chip, which was constructed on Nar Shaddaa. He suggested that Kallig reach out to the Cult of the Screaming Blade, whose allegiance Kallig won during his time as Zash's apprentice, in hopes of obtaining the CN-12.

Returning to Nar Shaddaa, Kallig learned from the cultists that the CN-12 was being held by a trio of cyborgs called the Veil and they only wished to speak with the Sith. And so Kallig did meet with the Veil, who attempted to bargain the chip for control of the cult. Instead, Kallig used a mind trick to compel them to join the cult.

Kallig returned to his ship to report the success to Pyron, who then informed the Sith that Thanaton has ascended to the Dark Council, his predecessor dying under mysterious circumstances. This pleased Kallig, who knows that finally killing Thanaton will also earn his seat. Pyron added that the Dark Council shouldn't know and warned that the other Moffs may not be so eager to oppose a Dark Councilor. Kallig then asked Pyron as to his motives for opposing Thanaton. The Moff stated Sith tradition has held the Empire from crushing the Republic and he believes that Kallig would be far more suited to accomplish this than Thanaton. As Pyron signed off, promising to complete the Silencer, Ashara approached Kallig, reminding her Master that they cannot face Thanaton with the ghosts out of control and suggested they go to Voss.

Mysteries of Voss[]

Voss-Ka

The heir of Kallig went to a newly discovered planet Voss in search of cure.

Though Kallig's body was fixed, the young Sith's mind was not. Upon docking at the Voss space station, the ghosts began mocking Kallig for thinking that an imaginary ritual could subdue them. Ignoring them, Kallig listened to Zash describing the planet Voss. It was apparently a utopia, ruled by the Voss Mystics, who perceive the Force as a conduit of healing and visions. Healing rituals were rare and often forbidden. But before Zash could explain more, Khem regained control. Kallig then decided to meet with an Imperial emissary, Athelis Kallis in Voss-Ka.

Upon boarding the station to get transport to the surface, Kallig was approached by a Voss emissary named Sor-Nak, who said that the Mystic Alor-Wan had foreseen that Kallig would destroy the Voss way of life and demanded that the Sith Lord turn back. Kallig refused to turn back after so much hardship, so Sor-Nak left, saying that Alor-Wan has seen that he will not use force and promises that he will find another means of persuasion.

Kallig met with Kallis and her partner, Rul Jophen, at the Imperial embassy. After being advised to avoid upsetting the Voss, Kallig elaborated on his mission to Kallis, who suggested that the Sith Lord seek out the outcast dream-walker cult.

Kallig later arrived at the cult's enclave and, with the permission of their leader, Asa-Ku, undertook his initiation ritual in order to learn their mind-healing ritual. The ritual caused Kallig to go into the dream world, where the ghosts masqueraded as familiar people in Kallig's life, whom the Sith Lord had to fight. Upon returning to the waking world, Asa-Ku told Kallig to go to the Shrine of Healing, providing an insignia that would grant the Sith Lord entry into the cult's chambers where the mind-healing ritual could be learned.

Upon entering the Shrine, Kallig was addressed by a disembodied voice, another Force ghost, this time a Voss called Mar-Da, who was the first and last dream-walker, who stated that the mind-healing ritual was forbidden. As punishment for the ghost's defiance, Kallig bound Mar-Da and forced him to reveal that a dream-rock in the Nightmare Lands could defeat the ghosts bound to Kallig by turning them to flesh and blood, but only a Gormak could use it.

Subsequently, Kallig received a holocall from Kallis, announcing that pair of Voss commandos were tearing apart her office. After returning to Voss-Ka and disposing of the interlopers, Kallig then had Kallis consult her research, confirming that the closest the Gormak had to Force-users were dream-walking shamans.

Journeying into Gorma-Koss, Kallig used dream-walking to communicate with a sympathetic Gormak named Hadrik, who was tired of the fighting between Voss and Gormak. As the shaman was imprisoned by the Gormak king, Jokull, for speaking out against him, Kallig rescued him in reality. Hadrik agreed to perform the ritual in exchange for passage offworld. They then traveled into the Nightmare Lands and dream-walk, where they found the dream-rock, containing the spirit of a Voss named Dal-Rin. Dal-Rin instructed Hadrik to use the rock on the "ghosts", whom he referred to nightmares, defeat the ghosts before Kallig uses the rock to heal his own mind. The pair proceeded to use the rock to strip away the ghosts' disguises and besting them in combat one-by-one. Once all the ghosts are defeated, Kallig used the rock and was healed.

Upon returning to the space station, Kallig and Hadrik found Sor-Nak waiting for them, who declares that by taking a Gormak off Voss, his people will reject the Empire. To preserve Imperial interests, Kallig used a mind trick to make Sor-Nak forget Hadrik.

The Second Apprentice[]

Harkun then contacted Kallig that the slave acolytes were in their final trial. Returning to Korriban to await the acolytes during their final trial, Kallig maintained high hopes for Xalek. At first, the Twi'lek, Seferiss, arrived with a tablet in hand. But then Xalek turned up and killed Seferiss. This blatant disregard for Sith tradition upset Harkun, who decides to pass up Xalek for the next group. However, Kallig decided to make an exception for Xalek and took him as his apprentice. Harkun reluctantly complied to his superior's decision but warned him that Thanaton would learn of this defiance.

Testing the Silencer[]

Kallig then rendezvoused with Pyron's flagship, the Doombringer, on which the Silencer was mounted. Arriving on the bridge, Pyron proclaimed to Moffs Dolus and Graham that Kallig is the future of the Empire. Dolus expressed hesitancy to ally with Kallig, fearing that Thanaton will have their heads. Graham, on the other hand, was willing to whittle away the ancient Sith traditions which had yet to win them the war. Kallig promised that Thanaton will be dead soon, but Dolus said he would not be moved until that happens.

Silencertest

Pyron ordered Dolus to be silent, as the Doombringer jumped into hyperspace and Pyron explained their plan to use the Silencer. They then emerged out of hyperspace as a lone Harrower-class dreadnought was fighting off a small Republic fleet, which they would target with their superweapon as a test. He then turned to Kallig, who gave a speech to the Moffs about how the Empire must change if they are to win the war. But as they ready the Silencer to fire, they received a distress call from Darth Achelon of the Carnage, requesting immediate aid. Graham identified Achelon as a minion of Thanaton and advised firing the Silencer at him. Dolus warned that purposely firing on an Imperial vessel was as good as treason. Pyron argued that the Republic would destroy the Carnage and not using the Silencer will result in their destruction too but deferred command to Kallig.

Therefore, Kallig chose not to aid Achelon and fired the Silencer, destroying Achelon's ship and the Republic fleet. Impressed, Dolus and Graham agreed to an alliance with Kallig. In turn, Kallig instructed Pyron to see that their new allies receive a Silencer for their capital ships.

Final confrontation[]

By order of the Dark Council and in light of your reputation as a master of the dark side, you are now Darth Nox.

Thanaton soon called for a Kaggath on Corellia, an opportunity for one another to silence their foe once and for all. Thanaton put many resources to shutting down Kallig's base of operations and fought the lower-level Sith Lord as much as the Republic defenders. Kallig still managed to get ahead using knowledge and power to avert disaster.

Thanaton finally challenged Kallig to a duel on Corellia, but when it became apparent that he would lose, Thanaton fled to Korriban to plead to the Dark Council for the former slave's execution. Unfortunately for Thanaton, the Sith Lord interrupted his speech before he could convince anyone. Curious to see why Thanaton was unable to destroy Kallig himself, the Dark Council allowed the two to duel again in front of them.

After one last struggle, Kallig proved the stronger Sith and unleashed the power of the Force ghosts to overcome Thanaton's Lightning Storm and bring Thanaton to his knees with the power of the Force. Beaten, Thanaton crawled to his fellow Dark Councilors, seeking their aid, but Darth Mortis reached out with the Force and snapped Thanaton's neck, killing him instantly. With Thanaton's seat on the Council now open, Mortis offered his position to the young Sith. Darth Ravage protested, stating that Kallig, as merely a Lord, could not sit on the Dark Council, but Darth Marr silenced his protests, stating that Kallig had earned the right. In light of the reputation earned as a dark side master, Marr bestowed Lord Kallig with the title of Darth Nox, head of the Sphere of Ancient Knowledge, one of the twelve power-bases of the Sith Empire.

Afterwards, the newly christened Darth Nox returned to Dromund Kaas to enforce dominion upon those formerly of the Sphere under Darth Thanaton and gain their allegiance. As soon as they were all dismissed, the ghosts pleaded to be freed, but Nox chose to keep them under bondage.

Reign as Dark Lord[]

Quest for immortality[]

Darthnox

Darth Nox, Dark Lord of the Sith.

Darth Nox, now a feared and respected Dark Lord of the Sith, continued to head the Sphere of Ancient Knowledge during and after Revan's return and the Eternal Empire's conquest. One of his most famous victories was with winning the Battle of Corellia alongside fellow Dark Councilor, Darth Decimus. Nox also aided the Empire in the defeat of Darth Malgus above the planet Ilum.

Eventually, as the war went on and new threats arose, Nox traveled to Rishi. The threat of the Revanites had drawn both Nox's attention to the planet and ire upon the Revanites. However, in the midst of ruining the Revanites' efforts, Nox was contacted by Moff Pyron. Pyron had been with searching for Revanite infiltrators within Nox's power base and was giving the Dark Lord an update on the search. Along with this, Pyron reported several situations that Nox needed to choose, including the status of the Silencer weapon and the recruitment of the Alzarians.

Lastly, Pyron realized Nox was on Rishi, and told the Dark Lord of their servant, Lord Veijel, who had been seeking an audiance. Nox and his companion, Talos Drellik, met with Veijel, who had been sent to Rishi thirty years ago by Darth Arctis and tasked with finding the secret of immortality. Veijel told Nox that he had built arrays that were supposed to communicate with others in the Rishi dwarf galaxy and that the arrays had received messages from other beings, supposedly Sith, Rakata, and Gree ancients. Veijel inquired that the arrays and beings were waiting for Nox due to their messages relating to the Dark Lord's past. Per Veijel's request, Nox set out and examined each of the arrays.

At each machine, the phrase, "The Dark Lord's lifespan increases by one solar cycle" was repeated. When Nox reported this to Veijel he became enthusiastic. Veijel told how Thanaton and Arctis believed the Rishi Maze held the secret to immortality but he himself doubted. The Sith Lord asked for fleets and scientists and forces so that he could explore the dwarf Galaxy and find the secret to immortality. Drellik reminded Nox that the search for immortality was never successful, emphasizing Zash's failed plan. Drellik also told Nox that the Dark Lord's resources should be used to help the Empire rather than this quest. However, despite Talos' warning, Nox granted Veijel's request in pursuit of everlasting glory and immortality. After the battle with Revan, Darth Marr stated that Nox was the only Dark Council member that he could trust, putting Nox among the elite of the Dark Council.

Building a dynasty[]

Next to his governing over the Sphere of Ancient Knowledge, the now restored House of Kallig was regaining much of its lost wealth and influence. Ultimately, Nox seized the former estate of the Sith Lord Grathan, whom he had forced out of his home by executing him on the orders of the Dark Council. Nox would sire two children: Gurath Kallig - a son, and Issat Kallig - a daughter, from an unknown concubine. When his son was first born, however, Nox doubted if he was truly Force-sensitive, as he lacked "that spark in his eyes". Considering what a "shame" it would be for a Sith Pureblood of the Kallig family to have a non-Force-sensitive as firstborn, Nox planned to cast his infant from the palace. However, Nox' servants pleaded with him to give Gurath a chance, and the Dark Lord eventually gave in.

The two siblings enrolled in the Sith Academy on Korriban on their father's behest. While in the Academy, Issat displayed exceptional skills, besting every other acolyte of her age. Meanwhile, Gurath under-performed in comparison to his peers, much to the jeers of his father and the Korriban instructors, and to the teasing of Issat. Ultimately, however, both of Nox' children survived the Academy, each passing their assigned trials. When the siblings returned home, Nox welcomed his accomplished daughter with open arms, while goading Gurath for narrowly completing his trials.

Nox chose to personally oversee the apprenticeships of his two children. During this time, Nox' relationship with his son deteriorated more, while Issat clearly became the more favored one between the siblings. In the end, Issat completed her apprenticeship and earned the title of Sith Lord, while Gurath fell behind on his training, much to his father's frustration.

In an effort to help his son develop his aptitude in the dark side, Nox allowed his son to sit with him during a Dark Council meeting. Honored, Gurath accompanied his father to the Dark Council chambers. During the meeting, Gurath spoke out against Darth Vowrawn for suggesting to sacrifice Imperial soldiers in an effort to conquer a Republic world. Angered by his impudence, Nox demanded Gurath duel in a Kaggath, not with Vowrawn, but with Nox himself. Seeing his father in the arena, Gurath fell to his knees, pleading for forgiveness and refusing to duel his father. For this perceived cowardice and disrespect, Nox electrocuted his son, permanently scarring him. He subsequently exiled Gurath from the Empire, under orders not to return until he had done the impossible: find out the identity of the Chosen One, and capture him or her. This was meant as an easy way of getting rid of Gurath, as no one successfully found the identity the Chosen One, let alone capture him.

First fall from domination[]

In his later years, Nox once again turned his attention to achieving immortal life. Having witnessed Emperor Vitiate's immense power as a result from a powerful Force ritual on Nathema first hand, Nox returned to Voss and sought to seek an audience with the Voss Mystics once again. Nox spoke to one of the mystics and asked them to tell him his future. The mystic revealed that Nox's was bound to die and that he would soon fall to a Jedi Master. The exact time and location of Nox's death, the mystic did not reveal. After hearing the prophecy, Nox immediately assembled all of his resources and went on a quest to achieve immortal life.

Nox first investigated the events that lead to the Ritual of Nathema, the infamous ritual that made the Sith Emperor immortal approximately two thousand years ago. Nox traveled to the barren wastelands of Nathema in hopes of finding clues to how Vitiate achieved immortality.

Eventually, Nox discovered that Vitiate performed an ancient and long-forgotten Dark side ritual known as "Qâzoi Kyantuska, or "Suppress Thought". A form of Sith sorcery that involved corrupting or influencing the minds of others. Nox turned to his apprentice, the newly christened Sith Lord Darth Xalek and commanded him to collect slaves, prisoners, and captive Jedi all over the galaxy and to bring them to the remote moon of Mustafar.

As a result of deep immersion in the Dark side, Nox's body began to deteriorate rapidly. He appeared as a gangrenous old man with deep wrinkles and glowing red eyes. Nox contacted Darth Acharon, the Dark Councilor heading the Sphere of Biotic Science, and requested him to engineer a complicated exoskeleton that prolonged Nox's life slightly and kept his rapidly aged-body from deteriorating any further.

Mustafar DB

Mustafar, after its destruction by Lord Sithis

Eventually, Nox summoned all of his servants and the captured Jedi his apprentice Xalek hunted to Mustafar. In one swift act, Nox initiated the Qâzoi Kyantuska and began absorbing the life force of the entire world, stripping the Force from the very fabric of reality on Mustafar and gaining both unimaginable power and immortality as a result. At that moment, the man shed his identity as Darth Nox and became Lord Sithis, a figure of immense power and terror in the eyes of the galaxy.

News of Mustafar's destruction spread quickly. The Republic were one of the first to respond to the tragedy. The Empire followed, suggesting that Nox had gone rogue and that he single-handedly wiped out all members of the Pyramid of Ancient Knowledge. Emperor Vowrawn declared Nox as an outlaw, and an enemy to the Empire. The Voss nicknamed Sithis "Psijii", in Voss tongue roughly translating to "Great Devourer".

However, Sithis was not truly sated. Although he had managed to keep his body alive, he was still fearful that death would catch up with him, as it ultimately did to the Sith Emperor. Therefore, Sithis gathered all allies that were still loyal to him and began an exodus into the Rishi Maze, to investigate the anomalies discovered years prior by his servant, Lord Veijel.

Sithis was not seen nor heard of for at least a year. Sometime later, Sithis had returned. His expeditionary fleet gone, he alone survived whatever the Rishi Maze had held. No one except Sithis knew what happened at the dwarf galaxy, but somehow, Sithis claimed that after returning from the Maze, both the Netherworld of the Force and Chaos had "rejected him", meaning that while his body had remained immortal, his soul could no longer truly "perish". The Jedi Council later remarked that Sithis became an unnatural, undefined "tumor" in the Force. After achieving true immortality, Sithis had vanished, becoming the single-most greatest threat to the Republic.

Meanwhile, Gurath, Sithis' exiled son, allied himself with the Jedi after learning what his father had done. Unbeknownst to Sithis, however, Gurath had succeeded in uncovering the identity of the future Chosen One through visions received after visiting the Force world. He was faced with two options, return to his father with this information in hopes of redeeming himself and becoming a Sith Lord at long last, or ally with the Jedi for the greater good of the galaxy. Ultimately, Gurath chose the latter.

Ch'vyalthan vs sithis

Master Ch'vyalthan battles Lord Sithis.

After a long search, the Republic discovered that Lord Sithis was hiding inside the Dark Temple on Dromund Kaas and was corrupting the living and the dead who made their sanctuaries there. A small Jedi strike team, led by the esteemed and wise Jedi Master Ch'vyalthan. invaded the Temple in hopes of destroying the rogue Dark Lord. Ch'vyalthan and his Jedi approached a meditating Sithis, sitting in front of his ancestor, Aloysius Kallig's, sarcophagus. Sithis was surprised to see his son with the Jedi, calling him a traitor, and the first to die. After a long duel, Sithis eliminated the other Jedi accompanying Ch'vyalthan, and nearing the end of the duel, the Jedi Master and Gurath killed the Dark Lord.

While Sithis was dying, he laughed and mocked his son and Ch'vyalthan, revealing that he had been consuming so much life and power that he succeeded in "loosening" his spirit from his body. Following his death, Sithis' specter broke free from his body and began to attack his son. The other Force entities Sithis consumed years ago, Horak-mul, Ergast, Darth Andru, and Kalatosh Zavros, also broke free from their bounds and accompanied Sithis' spirit in attacking the Jedi. Ch'vyalthan managed to fight them off but was badly injured in the process. With Sithis' body dead, and his spirit dormant, the Jedi were convinced that the Dark Lord was destroyed for good.

Gurath survived the duel, and became House Kallig's newest patriarch. Determined to lead the Kalligs to a new era of peace, he would eventually become the very first Kallig to be named a Jedi Knight and with him, the Kalligs became one of the only Sith Purebloods to join the Jedi Order.

Missing years[]

I was ripped from my body, less than spirit, less than the meanest ghost, but still, I was alive.
—Lord Sithis regarding his fall from power
Sithis incorporeal

A disembodied Lord Sithis at Yavin 4.

After Lord Sithis' first fall from domination, his power base, the Sphere of Ancient Knowledge, collapsed, most exiling themselves to obscure corners of the galaxy. Some of the more devoted servants of Lord Sithis reorganized themselves as the Darksiders, and they went on a never-ending quest to find Sithis' spirit, continuing his work.

What Lord Sithis didn't anticipate - however - was that after allowing the Jedi to defeat him, his power in the Force had been drained significantly. He lost his physical form but remained alive in ghostly form. The discoveries he made while in the Rishi Maze kept his spirit from entering Chaos, the afterlife for any dark side-aligned Force users.

His weakened spirit retreated to the forests of Yavin 4, where due to his combat with Revan years prior amplified his strength in the dark side somewhat. He eventually discovered the existence of the Darksiders and with Force telepathy was able to reveal to them his location. While waiting for his faithful servants to find him, Sithis gained physical form by inhabiting Tuk'atas, though he disliked doing so because the bodies of such animals were ill-equipped to perform Force abilities, and because his possession significantly reduced their lifespans; none of his hosts survived for too long.

Eventually, Sithis was found by the Darksiders on Yavin 4. Some volunteered to nurture and strengthen the Dark Lord's weakened spirit, while laying the early groundwork for what would become the Grand Plan. Meanwhile, through the Darksiders, Lord Sithis laid the seeds for the Sith Empire's downfall, believing the Empire to have become incompetent and imperfect, partly due to Vitiate's negligence and the Dark Council's constant infighting.

At around 3360 BBY, Sithis' old strengths had returned. Although he was still incorporeal, he once again had enough power to interact with the physical world. At this time, he ordered his Darksiders to preserve all of his knowledge and store it into a dark holocron. In it lay the Dark Lord's secret formula for true immortality, a chronological timeline of his life, and his Grand Plan; the destruction of the Galactic Republic by Sith infiltration.

Afterwards, Sithis remained silent and went into an assisted hibernation for the next millennium, while waiting for his plans to come into fruition. Meanwhile, the Darksiders had successfully infiltrated and destroyed the failing Sith Empire, caused the fracture of the Dark Council, but also the inevitable victory of the Republic. A necessary casualty, according to Sithis.

Some Darksiders built a base of operations of Yavin 4 to protect Sithis' dormant mind. They used a variety of dark side techniques to shield Sithis' existence and location from the Jedi, who still believed the Dark Lord to have been destroyed.

New Sith Wars[]

At around 2000 BBY, Sithis reawakened. Alerted by his servants of the Republic's complete control of the galaxy, the Dark Lord saw to begin his new reign with a fresh start; free from the former Dark Council's narrow-minded views and constant bickering. With the aid of his Darksiders, Sithis began to construct a plan to reestablish Sith domination. However, before he could truly set his plans into motion, he had to test his fledgling theories.

Lord Sithis instructed his followers to infiltrate the now-unopposed Jedi Order and to find a weak link, someone-preferably an already established Jedi Master-to turn to the dark side. The Darksiders went to work, while Sithis idly waited on Yavin 4.

The Dark Lord's followers succeeded. They found a relatively young Umbaran Jedi Master going by the name Phanius, who was already at odds with Jedi tenets. The Darksiders managed to lure the Umbaran to Yavin 4, where he was approached by Lord Sithis in his ghostly form. Sithis, fueling Phanius' dissatisfaction with the Jedi Order, presented the Jedi Master with his holocron, telling him that the secret of immortality and the knowledge needed to destroy the Jedi all lay within it. Sithis promised Phanius the holocron, if he would only serve him as his Sith apprentice and combat the Republic. Phanius agreed, falling to the dark side and taking on the name "Darth Ruin".

Ruin went on to found the New Sith, a puppet empire loyal to the Darksiders. He managed to unite a number of Sith clans under him, gaining a significant number to battle the Jedi and the Republic. Concurrently, Ruin managed to convince fifty additional Jedi to leave the Order and rally behind his cause, resulting in the Fourth Great Schism.

So began the New Sith Wars. During the war, Sithis studied the effects brought on by the war, but most importantly, how the Sith waged war and how their hierarchy was constructed. The Dark Lord was surprised to learn that Ruin flippantly sacrificed his disciples, rather than uniting them to become a stronger adversary to the Republic. Sithis continued to carefully observe the New Sith. But eventually, he grew displeased with them. As they were merely "test subjects" to Sithis - not his final vision on how the galaxy would be dominated - he ordered his followers to assassinate Darth Ruin and to bring an end to the failed New Sith.

After Darth Ruin's death, Sithis once again went into a state of hibernation to preserve and build his strength. Meanwhile, the Darksiders continued to work behind the scenes to ensure the Dark Lord's plans would run smoothly.

A fourth apprentice[]

When the New Sith Wars ended, Sithis awoke once more. Frustrated, but not surprised by the New Sith's failure, the Dark Lord sent his minions across the galaxy to find a new apprentice for him. Meanwhile, he revealed his existence to a number of New Sith that managed to survive the war, bolstering the Darksiders' numbers.

However, fortune found the Dark Lord when, instead of searching for an apprentice himself, he was approached by Jedi Master Skere Kaan. Kaan, who went against the High Council's wishes, ventured to Yavin 4 to investigate the reason behind the New Sith's formation, where he found Lord Sithis. As he did before with Phanius, Lord Sithis succeeded in swaying the radical Jedi to the dark side, using the same technique as before; seducing him with his dark holocron.

Kaan, convinced by Sithis that the Jedi and Republic were imperfect, led a group of loyal Jedi Knights away from Coruscant and formed the Brotherhood of Darkness in 1010 BBY. Sithis indirectly formed the group as the antithesis to the New Sith Empire; filling the Brotherhood with ideals contrasting those held by Ruin's Sith.

BrotherhoodOfDarkness-BoS

The Brotherhood of Darkness, founded indirectly by Lord Sithis.

At the time of Kaan's ascent, the New Sith had fractured, with dozens of Sith Lords claiming the title of Dark Lord and waging endless campaigns against each other, rather than uniting to bring down the ailing Republic. Sensing that their endless quest for supremacy and power would destroy the Sith, Kaan set about reuniting the various splinter states under his banner, destroying all those who refused to bend the knee.

Sithis was pleasantly surprised and intrigued to learn that the Brotherhood encouraged cooperation and equality between Sith Lords, whereas the New Sith had failed in this regard. Rather than challenge each of the self-proclaimed "Dark Lords" and threaten the war effort, Kaan acquiesced to their vanity, and named them all "Dark Lord of the Sith", and declared "All are equal in the Brotherhood of Darkness." But he forbade any Sith to take the historic title of Darth, since he held that title as being solely responsible for the jealousy and infighting that had destroyed the Sith in the past.

With his charisma and power, the Sith struck back at the Republic and the Jedi Order. However, the Republic and the Order were not without their defenders. Having seen Kaan for what he truly was, Lord Hoth of the Jedi Order rallied the banners of the Jedi Grand Council and formed the Army of Light through the support of all standing Jedi Lords. Once amassed, Hoth led his armies on a hunt for Sith, a decade-long war that would see great casualties on both sides. Although the conflict was widely regarded as an all-out war, the Republic claimed that it was simply fighting a series of engagements against an illegal organization.

Ultimately, the Brotherhood of Darkness did not last. At Ruusan, Kaan was defeated and his Brotherhood fractured. Sithis chose to abandon Kaan after the latter grew mad with the power of the dark side. Instead of dismantling the organization himself, as he did with the New Sith, he allowed fate to decide the failed Sith's fate.

After observing the New Sith and the Brotherhood of Darkness' strengths and weaknesses, Sithis came to the conclusion that the sole reason why the Sith Empires had all failed, was because of the Sith themselves. Years prior, the Dark Lord would've blamed Vitiate for the Sith Empire's destruction. He concluded that an Empire consisting of multiple Sith would ultimately end with the Sith battling themselves, rather than the Jedi, thanks to the Sith Code's encouragement of ambition and self-serving ideals. Satisfied with the results brought by his "experiments", Sithis began to write a series of codes and guidelines that would eventually evolve into the Rule of Two.

The Grand Plan[]

A final apprentice[]

Darth Bane-TEA

Darth Bane, Sithis's "final apprentice".

With the New Sith Wars ended, Sithis finally started to set his plans into motion. With the knowledge and strength needed to crush the Republic and its Jedi defenders once and for all, Sithis searched far and wide for a final apprentice, whom he could pass all his knowledge on. The Dark Lord's servants looked for any remaining Sith that had survived the onslaught of the Brotherhood of Darkness.

Ultimately, Lord Sithis sensed a strong dark side presence emanating from the planet Lehon in the Unknown Regions. Instead of sending his Darksiders to investigate this anomaly in the Force, Sithis decided to travel to Lehon himself to see what presence had disturbed him.

On Lehon, the ghostly Sithis encountered a young Sith apprentice going by the name "Bane". Bane, who in turn sensed the incorporeal Dark Lord attempted to shield himself from the dark spirit, believing it to be malevolent towards him. Instead, Sithis subjugated and incapacitated the young Sith, observing him thoroughly. The Dark Lord sensed that Bane was strong in the Force, to which he became convinced that this young Sith may be the prophesied Sith'ari.

Lord Sithis spoke to the young Bane, acquiescing to his disillusionment from Kaan's Brotherhood. The Dark Lord revealed to Bane that he had sensed the young apprentice's strength in the dark side from systems away, to which he believed that he could be the prophesied savior of the doomed Sith Order. Bane, cynically dismissing the ghost's fanatical preaches, claimed that he only wished for the destruction of the Brotherhood, whom he believed to have become inferior to the teachings of the ancient Sith Lords. Sithis agreed, after which he revealed to Bane the location of Darth Revan's lost holocron, convincing the young Sith that the former Dark Lord's profane teachings were hidden inside.

To Sithis' suggestion, Bane found and unlocked Darth Revan's holocron, studying its contents thoroughly. Afterwards, he found that it was his duty to restore the Sith Empire of old. Later, the ghostly presence revealed his identity to Bane as the two-thousand-year old Sith Lord Sithis. The Dark Lord offered Bane to become his apprentice, to achieve together what other Sith Lords could not; the defeat of the Jedi. Sithis proclaimed his new apprentice Darth Bane, granting him the title of Dark Lord of the Sith. This would be the first occasion where both master and apprentice were Dark Lords.

Creating the Rule of Two[]

The Sith have become impure, weak and foolish. You of all people know this best; look at Kaan's followers. What feats have they truly accomplished? Become my apprentice, and we will bring the Sith back to the golden days!
—Sithis to Bane

Lord Sithis intended that Bane's apprenticeship be kept a secret, as not to alert Skere Kaan - his other apprentice - of his true motives. He sent Bane on an assignment to eradicate the Brotherhood of Darkness, as the first step to achieving galactic dominance.

Meanwhile, Kaan, fearful of Bane and his intentions, dispatched Kas'im from Ruusan to kill his former student. Thanks to Githany, who had had a vision of Bane on Lehon, Kaan knew where to send the Blademaster. The Twi'lek Master made his way to the planet, and then confronted Bane in the temple, revealing that he intended to kill him. Sithis disappeared and watched from the sidelines, eager to see his apprentice's martial prowess in action. After a heated lightsaber duel, Bane gained the upper hand, and forced Kas'im into a corner. However, the Blademaster split his double-bladed lightsaber, wielding it as two separate blades. During training Kas'im had always derided fighting with two lightsabers, ensuring Bane had no experience facing such an opponent. Where Bane had been sure of victory only just moments before, his inexperience put him at a severe disadvantage, and he quickly lost his momentum. Bane was sent tumbling down a staircase as Kas'im advanced, ready to deliver the killing blow. Furious at himself and Kas'im, Bane remembered that he knew the layout of the temple, an advantage the Blademaster lacked. He unleashed his anger into a blast of dark Force energy, and though Kas'im managed to throw up a Force shield to protect himself, the blast caused the temple to collapse on the Twi'lek, killing him.

After the duel had ended, Sithis stepped forth, impressed with the young Sith's capabilities. He then instructed his apprentice to dispatch a messenger drone to Ruusan, informing Kaan of Kas'im's death and handing the Sith Lord instructions to perform the Sith ritual to make a thought bomb, one of the many secrets Sithis had learned from Revan's holocron. He also told Bane to keep this secret from the other Sith, as they could use it against him. Sithis then sent the young apprentice on his way, to ensure the destruction of the impure Brotherhood of Darkness. The Dark Lord told his apprentice to spare no one, so that he and Sithis would only remain.

When Bane returned from his campaign to end Kaan's Sith, he brought with him an young girl, called Zannah, and a fulfilled promise; He and Sithis were the only Sith that remained. The Dark Lord was pleased, after which he told his apprentice that he had finally completed his training, and no longer needed to be under his guidance. Bane was intrigued, but also surprised, after which Sithis told him that the very reason the Sith had failed so many times was because of constant infighting and power struggles, bringing forth the Brotherhood as an example. He then gave Bane the means to restore the Sith under a new Sith Code; the Rule of Two; there will be only two Sith in the galaxy, a master and an apprentice - one to hold power, and the other to crave it. He allowed Bane to take the girl Zannah as his apprentice. Bane was confused, to which Sithis proclaimed that he no longer considered himself Sith, for he had "transcended" beyond such mortal matters.

Lord Sithis then proclaimed that he would go into hibernation once more, while confident that in his absence, the Sith would finally succeed in dominating the galaxy. He gave his goodbyes to his former apprentice, after which he returned to his stronghold on Yavin 4. Meanwhile, Bane constructed his own holocron, based on the combined teachings of Darth Revan and Lord Sithis. He then founded the Order of the Sith Lords, using the knowledge he learned from his former master as the core tenets of the Order's ideology.

Back on Yavin 4, Lord Sithis instructed his Darksiders to relocate their base of operations to the planet of Korriban; the Sith's graveyard world. On Korriban, Sithis' strength in the dark side would increase even more. He also instructed his followers to awaken him once the final stage of the Grand Plan had come to fruition; a Sith Lord becoming Supreme Chancellor of the Republic.

Creation of the Chosen One[]

At around 60 BBY, the Sith Lord Darth Plagueis - intrigued by the legend and stories of Lord Sithis - took a spiritual journey to Korriban in hopes of learning more of the Sith that came before him, particularly the Dark Lord Sithis. The Muun Sith Lord had a relentless curiosity to uncovering the secret of immortality, and so he hoped to learn more about how Lord Sithis had achieved true immortality. More importantly, however, he wished to find this acclaimed Sith himself.

On Korriban, Plagueis had hoped to encounter some of the Dark Lord's followers, or perhaps even Sithis himself. Once on the Sith's graveyard planet, however, the Sith Lord found nothing but decaying ruins of ancient civilizations and red sand - his search for the Dark Lord apparently fruitless. However, he felt a strange dark side presence emanating from the Valley of the Dark Lords, and went to investigate.

PlagueisNSSGF

Thanks to Sithis's holocron, Darth Plagueis caused the birth of Anakin Skywalker.

Once in the Valley, Plagueis encountered the final resting place of Darth Bane. At the foot of Bane's sarcophagus, lay a holocron, which happened to radiate powerful Force energy. Intrigued to learn more about the device, Plagueis took the holocron back with him, unbeknownst that a powerful dark side spell was placed on the artifact, created by Lord Sithis.

Plagueis kept his discovery a secret, even to his apprentice, Darth Sidious. However, he found that he had considerable trouble unlocking the holocron, as it was ridden with protective spells. Somehow, the Sith Lord had managed to break the lock on the holocron, but as he opened it, nothing happened. Disappointed, Plagueis returned to his duties, convinced that the artifact contained nothing of importance.

A few days after unlocking the holocron, Plagueis was visited by a young Sith Pureblood calling himself "Menelag". Plagueis had noticed that the young Sith wore the garbs of a Sith apprentice from ancient times, yet spoke as if he was a Master. Menelag revealed to the Muun that he served as the guardian of the ancient holocron, yet he didn't appear as a hologram or as a Force ghost. The young Sith recognized Plagueis as a descendant of the Banite Sith, after which he revealed to Plagueis that he was a fragment of Lord Sithis' memory, stored in the holocron by Sithis himself. Fascinated, Plagueis demanded that Menelag reveal to him the secret of immortality. Menelag accepted, after which he told Plagueis that in order to escape death, he must "create life", first. He instructed him to use his combined power and that of his apprentice to find a way to manipulate midi-chlorians. Afterwards, the young Sith departed and the holocron was closed shut again.

Slightly disappointed by Menelag's answer, Plagueis decided to follow up on his advice and began to research the midi-chlorians. After almost twenty years of researching the Force-sensitive microorganisms, Plagueis had succeeded in finding a way to influence them. Along with his student, Plagueis went into a meditative trance and managed to tip the scales of balance in the favor of darkness. Plagueis attempted to go one step further and attempted to create life by mentally reaching out to the inhabitants of the galaxy. An act in direct violation of the nature of the Force, Plagueis and Sidious attempted to will a being of their own design into creation, pouring their malicious intent into waves through the Force to the countless midi-chlorians spread across the galaxy. The experiment did not yield fruit however, as Plagueis perceived the Force growing silent to his probing. Feeling betrayed by Menelag, Plagueis angrily disposed of the holocron.

What the Sith Lord didn't anticipate, however, was that he did succeed in creating life. Somewhere in the Outer Rim, thanks to Plagueis and Sidious' maneuverings of the Force, a boy was born to the slave Shmi Skywalker, called Anakin. However, Plagueis had been manipulated by Menelag into creating Anakin when he went into his meditative trance. Sithis, in his hibernation, also reached out into the Force and used Plagueis' energy to corrupt the Force temporarily, resulting in the creation of Anakin. Doing so, however, Sithis had made the young boy very powerful in the Force, but also more susceptible to the dark side, a trait that could be exploited in the future, according to Sithis' visions.

Rebirth[]

Final awakening[]

They say a vile creature lives at Level 1. When you're real quiet and listen close, you can hear a beastly pant and muffled screams coming from underground. That's the Deep One.
—Coruscant underworld dwellers mentioning Sithis.

At 32 BBY - a thousand years after Sithis had apprenticed Darth Bane - the Dark Lord was awakened for a final time by his Darksiders per his instructions; a Sith had succeeded in becoming Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. Once awake, Sithis proclaimed that he was ready to take a permanent physical form once more. However, his Darksiders alerted their master that Korriban was being invaded by the Jedi, led by Grand Master Yoda. Somehow, the Jedi had gotten wind of the Darksiders' existence - although not yet their allegiance.

Not willing to give his existence away, Sithis smuggled himself out of Korriban by latching onto the body of one of his servants, a Human named Barthon, achieving partial physical form. Barthon and Sithis escaped Korriban along with a handful of servants. The Dark Lord instructed his servants to take him to Coruscant, right under the Jedi's nose, to observe the Sith's progress more closely.

After Sithis had arrived on Coruscant, he used the old Works district as a headquarters. He himself sought refuge far down the Coruscant underworld, rumored to have inhabited the infamous Level 1. Sithis' presence in Level 1 had disturbed many of the underworld's dwellers and creatures, to the point that the Dark Lord had become an urban legend, called the "Deep One".

Meanwhile, the Jedi - led by Grand Master Yoda - had rediscovered the Dark Lord's ancient holocron, storing it in the Jedi Temple for closer study. Sithis did not seem concerned with this, confident that his artifact would slip out of the hands of the Jedi soon.

The Clone Wars[]

Sithis, still attached to the body of his servant Barthon, commanded his servant to return to the surface of Coruscant in an attempt to retrieve his holocron. While Barthon infiltrated the Galactic Senate under the guise of a Senator of the Baroli sector, wearing a headdress that concealed Sithis' face on the back of Barthon's head, the Dark Lord silently plotted for a permanent physical body of his own, while also giving his servant instructions on how to reclaim his lost holocron.

Meanwhile, the Clone Wars raged throughout the galaxy. During the chaos, Sithis had found the identity of the last descendant of Darth Bane. Darth Sidious, using the name Sheev Palpatine, who was still oblivious as to the Dark Lord's presence in the Senate. Sithis had intended it this way, believing it best that he not interfere with Sidious' machinations as he plotted to bring down the Republic. Instead, the Dark Lord utilized the ensuing chaos of the war to retake his holocron.

However, while Barthon's body was inhabited by two souls, it had drained the Darksider's power significantly. In order to keep himself alive, Barthon was forced to feast on the life force of other Force users. Occasionally, he would drain the powers of some of the Jedi Knights to fuel his own. In turn, Sithis leeched off of Barthon's abilities to regain more strength. Eventually, Barthon became sloppy and his thirst for life force had jeopardized Sithis' concealed presence in the Senate. Mace Windu, growing more suspicious of the Jedi that had become severely weakened, informed Obi-Wan Kenobi and his former pupil, Anakin Skywalker of his suspicions, which forced the duo to investigate this strange presence within the Senate.

Darth Sidious, who had also become suspicious of the weakened Jedi, sent his own servants to investigate as well, fearing that this strange dark side presence would eventually reveal him. Anakin and Obi-Wan had discovered that something lurked deep below Coruscant's Level 1 that could be the cause of the Jedi's weakened states. When they went to investigate, utilizing breathing masks, they stumbled upon Senator Barthon, who finally revealed to them his true allegiance. After removing his headdress, Sithis revealed himself on the back of Barthon's head. He took control over Ahsoka Tano's young mind and used her to fight her own friends, forcing Anakin to immobilize her. Afterwards, the two Jedi fought Barthon and defeated him, releasing Sithis' spirit who flew at the two Jedi before vanishing again.

After discovering that the ancient Dark Lord Sithis was still alive, the Jedi went into a state of high alert, initially believing that Sithis was the Sith Lord they long searched for. In turn, the discovery of Sithis worked in Palpatine's favor, as most of the Jedi turned a blind eye and would no longer suspect him of any malicious intents. Yoda kept Sithis' holocron under close guard, believing that its content would reveal a weakness of Sithis or possibly his ultimate intentions.

Fall of the Republic[]

Nearing the end of the Clone Wars, the Jedi now had to fight two separate enemies: the Confederacy and a dormant Sithis. Meanwhile, Darth Sidious' final plan had come into action. He had successfully managed to turn Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, issued Order 66, which caused the deaths of almost every Jedi Knight in the galaxy, and reformed the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire. Sithis' long-constructed plan had come to completion. The Jedi were vanquished, and the Republic had fallen.

Pleased that his plans had succeeded, Sithis retreated back to the Darksiders' base on Korriban and began to create a formula of Sith alchemy to attempt to create a new body for himself. Now with no Jedi to oppose him, the Dark Lord could continue his research in peace.

Meanwhile, Sidious solidified his authority over the galaxy using his new enforcer, Darth Vader. While clearing out the Jedi Temple, Sidious discovered writings by Master Yoda that mentioned Sithis' holocron. The newly-crowned Emperor ordered his servants to search the Temple thoroughly for the Dark Artifact, but to no avail. Afterwards, he began his own personal study on Sithis' artifact and its location.

Unbeknownst to most, Sithis had in fact succeeded in retaking his holocron, which was now being safeguarded by his followers back on Korriban. Surprised by the amount of influence it had generated, Sithis came to believe that the holocron could be used to his advantage, perhaps even to receive more followers.

Rebel Alliance and New Republic[]

Sithis rudimentary body

Sithis' rudimentary body, meant as a temporary physical form.

As the years went by, the Alliance to Restore the Republic was formed, led by Luke Skywalker, General Leia Organa, and Han Solo. Sithis did not concern himself with the fledgling Rebels, considering them to be swiftly crushed by the Empire soon. However, when the first Death Star was destroyed, shaking the very core of Imperial society, Sithis was quickly alerted, foreseeing that this Empire would also fall soon. Furious and frustrated, Sithis became increasingly disillusioned by Sith tenets after witnessing them fail time and time again for nearly 3,000 years.

Convinced that ultimately, even with only two Sith they are bound to fail, the Dark Lord developed a revitalized version of the Rule of Two. In it, he wrote that there must be only one immortal Sith to guide the followers of the dark side for all eternity. He called it the Five Tenets, listing five laws every dark sider must follow:

  1. Tenet I. Never dishonor the Sith Code. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
  2. Tenet II. Never betray the Sith or its secrets. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
  3. Tenet III. Never disobey or refuse to carry out an order from a superior. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
  4. Tenet IV. Never attempt to ally with any light side user. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
  5. Tenet V. Never kill a direct servant of the Dark Lord. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.

By using this newly constructed code, Sithis had implemented that every Sith must have unwavering loyalty to the Dark Lord. Any disobedience or heresy must be swiftly put down at any cost. Functionally, the Five Tenets were a theocracy, placing Sithis as the only source from with authority derives.

Sithis refrained from interfering with galactic affairs until after the Battle of Endor, which marked the fall of the Galactic Empire, just as Sithis had foreseen. The Dark Lord had decided to reemerge into galactic civilization once again. But to do so, he required a permanent physical form.

Fortune had somehow found Sithis, as five years after the Battle of Endor, Luke Skywalker, now the leader of the New Jedi Order, had discovered Sithis' holocron after it had initially been lost following the chaos of Order 66. Skywalker took the holocron with him to the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4, intending to figure out what kind of secrets the device held.

Sithis, sensing Skywalker's power in the Force, believed that he could become a powerful apprentice and for the first time since the Dark Artifact's creation, allowed him to view its true contents. Skywalker was amazed but appalled with what he found after the holocron yielded to him its true information. So much so that it very nearly drove him to the dark side. Not willing to become a victim of the dark side's manipulations, Luke sealed the device away, outright refusing to read its content.

Meanwhile, life went on in the galaxy. The New Republic had been formed, the remnants of the Empire had engaged in a civil war, and the followers of the Dark Lord were preparing to announce their master's return. Sithis, concocting plan after plan in his hidden base on Korriban, had come with the perfect formula for his revenge. He would use the holocron's influence to draw one of Luke's friends or family to the dark side, into his hands. Using the blood of another person, the bones of his former master, Darth Zash, and the flesh of one of his faithful servants, the Dark Lord had finally developed the perfect formula to craft a new body.

Afterwards, the Dark Lord concocted a potion that gave him a rudimentary body. Using Sith alchemy, Sithis had gained a limiting phyiscal form. His temporary body was the size of a Human baby, with limiting restrictions to his ability to use Force powers. He had to continuously drink the blood of one of his servants in order to keep his form. This body had also many physical limitations, forcing him to be carried by his servants from location to location.

A new body[]

The Dark Lord shall rise again!
—The Dark Lord's servant

At around 15 ABY, the Dark Lord was finally ready to put his plans into action. From across the galaxy, he used the holocron to call out to one of Luke's closest friends; the former Emperor's Hand, Mara Jade. The former assassin of the Emperor was completely under the influence of the Dark Lord, who ordered her to come to the abandoned planet of Dromund Kaas.

Meanwhile, Luke, Leia, and the other Jedi had noticed Mara Jade's absence. Concerned about her whereabouts, Luke felt his apprentice's presence on the dark planet Dromund Kaas. Sensing that she was in danger, he gathered his allies and set off to the Sith Empire's former capital.

Sithis reborn

The Dark Lord is reborn using the blood of Mara Jade Skywalker.

When the Jedi arrived on the planet, Luke sensed Mara's presence near the Dark Temple. When they went to investigate, they witnessed Mara Jade standing near the Temple, staring into nothingness. When approaching her, Luke and the Jedi collapsed in headache as one of Sithis' servants appeared, carrying his master in his temporary form. The Darksider activated traps laying around the Temple, forcing Luke and his allies in bondage.

Later, the Dark Lord commanded his servant to place him into a cauldron containing some kind of liquid. The servant then collected the first two ingredients. A hipbone recovered from Darth Zash's skeleton, and the servant's own hand, cut off himself. Finally, the servant walked up to the immobilized Mara Jade and took a sample of her blood, which he also infused with the concoction. Afterwards, the cauldron sprung fire revealing a big blob of skin that gradually transformed into a Human. Soon a face formed, revealing that the ancient Sith alchemy had worked, and the Dark Lord had regained a powerful, lasting body.

Calling on the servant to robe him, the reborn Dark Lord took some time examining his body and getting accustomed to it. Soon after, other Darksiders appeared from the forests, heeding to their master's call. Sithis welcomed them before he complimented them on their, and their ancestors' accomplishments and fealty. He then revealed that the sole reason he had desired to walk among mortals once more, is to reestablish dark side superiority to the galaxy. He announced that they should no longer consider themselves Sith, instead being superior to them.

He then turned his focus on his new captives, most prominently Luke Skywalker. He observed the young Jedi, mocking him and his allies for their foolishness, while also goading Mara Jade for being so easily swayed. He then called forth one of his servants to deliver him his lightsaber, which he hasn't held in over 3,000 years. He ignited his weapon, then ordered his servants to release Luke. He taunted the Jedi Master, telling him that he should face a true opponent, not a weakling like the Emperor. The two fought for a while until the spirits of Obi-Wan, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, and other unknown Jedi revealed themselves, telling Luke that Sithis was too great an adversary. Anakin told his son to escape with his allies while he and the others distract the Dark Lord. Luke did so, freeing his allies and fleeing Dromund Kaas. The spirits launched at Sithis, who quickly disposed of them, while watching Luke's starship fly away.

Conquest for the galaxy[]

Invasion of the Core Worlds[]

Following his first duel with Luke, Sithis contacted his thousands of followers across the galaxy; reorganized them into massive armies, and initiated Sithis' Conquest, which would rage the galaxy for almost two years. The Dark Lord and his followers reclaimed the forgotten world of Korriban and built a massive headquarters there, along with a meditation chamber/throne room for Sithis.

The return of Sithis and his followers had forced the New Republic to refocus their attention on vanquishing the Dark Lord, who had established his own empire, centered around the former territories of Vitiate's Sith Empire. Sithis also gave twelve of his most loyal followers authority to govern the galaxy as kings while Sithis placed himself as the eternal ruler of the Sith Empire.

Before the Republic could respond to the Dark Lord's threat, Sithis had launched an invasion on the Core Worlds, striking at the outer planets first before taking Corellia - one of the Republic's most prominent and powerful planets. The planet fell within a week, facing heavy casualties on the side of the Republic.

The Senate, growing increasingly concerned with Sithis' many victories, urgently dispatched Luke along with his most trusted allies to find a way to destroy the Dark Lord for good. Meanwhile, the Republic continued to oppose the Dark Lord's advance, fighting a war of attrition soon. The Republic allowed some of the Core Worlds to fall while continuing to defend Coruscant; Sithis' main target.

Fall of Coruscant[]

The Senate has fallen. Besk's dead. They are coming.
—An unknown senator warning the Jedi

While Luke ventured across the galaxy, learning more about Sithis' background and how he achieved his immortality, the Dark Lord sent a small squadron to Coruscant and assassinated the Supreme Chancellor, installing a puppet politician of his own. Afterwards, the Dark Lord's forces put the Senate under house arrest, striking a massive blow against the Republic.

When the Jedi had learned about Coruscant's fall, some insisted they return to free the Senate from Sithis' grasp. Luke protested against it, stating that their main mission was to find a way to defeat Sithis and that in doing so, they would free the Republic soon. Some of the Jedi, disagreeing with Luke, departed and left their companions, while they attempted to retake Coruscant. Ultimately, they would not succeed.

In the following year, Sithis continued to terrorize and rule the Republic with an iron fist. Meanwhile, the Jedi continued to move against him. However, most of the Core Worlds refused to openly fight against Sithis, fearing the extent of his power and instead quietly hoped that Luke would soon liberate them.

Battle of Belsavis and defeat[]

[Laughs] You're a fool, Skywalker. Even with all your knowledge you're still just a naive boy. I knew about this trap long ago, but I admit, I did underestimate your power. [Speaking to Luke's allies] You all could've been part of something greater! You could've found meaning in this life under my guidance! But, as it seems, if I can't have the galaxy...THEN NO ONE WILL!
—Sithis acknowledging his defeat, shortly before summoning the Yuuzhan Vong

Almost a year later, Luke had finally discovered the source of Sithis' power. By tracing the Dark Lord's life across every planet he had visited, Luke finally stumbled onto Rishi, finding the former, hidden study of Lord Veijel, who was once a servant to the Dark Lord and discovered the means to secure Sithis' immortality.

Luke found notes that mentioned Sithis' journey into the Rishi Maze where he had discovered immortality. Unfortunately, nothing directly mentioned how he gained such power, nor how to rob him off it. Disappointed, Luke felt lost until one of Veijel's notes mentioned that a secret prison existed on the planet Belsavis, which once functioned as a megaprison for the Old Republic. Luke crafted an idea that involved trapping Sithis on Belsavis, putting him into a state of permanent stasis, in which he could hurt no one anymore. Filled with renewed vigor, Luke and his allies set off to find this strange planet, while also trying to come up with a plan on how to lure the Dark Lord there.

When Luke discovered Belsavis, he found an ancient vault once built by the Rakata, that fit the notes left by Veijel. Luke, ready to end Sithis' reign once and for all, ordered his allies to send a message across the galaxy, taunting Lord Sithis. The message poked fun at the Dark Lord's physical appearance, but also mocked his heritage as a slave, which Luke had discovered during his journey.

Enraged by the Jedi Master's taunting, Sithis chose to come to Belsavis to put an end to the Jedi's existence. However, he was not entirely fooled, and was aware that Luke had intended to trap him and so, came prepared.

When Sithis arrived on Belsavis, he confronted the Jedi, acknowledging that Luke had become a true adversary for him. In turn, the Jedi continued to taunt Sithis, hoping he would fall for the trap. The Dark Lord then engaged in combat with Luke, using all his powers in an effort to dispose of him.

Luke and Sithis battled for a while until afterwards, Luke signalled to fire the trap. In the vault where they fought, two great pillars lit with yellow light, striking at Sithis and trapping him. The Dark Lord was unable to free himself, but continued to blast waves of Force energy at the Jedi. Afterwards, another pillar activated, putting Sithis into a lock, making him unable to move. Convinced that the trap had worked, Luke declared Sithis' reign ended for good. The incapacitated Dark Lord mocked the Jedi, laughing at his feebleness. He admitted that he was aware of Luke's trap, declaring that if he can't have the galaxy, no one can.

Then, Sithis released an ear-piercing version of Force scream, forcing everyone across the galaxy to collapse in headache. The scream brought the entire vault on top of Sithis, but not before the machine had functionally trapped the Dark Lord into stasis for all eternity. When the Dark Lord had ceased his scream, Luke and the other Jedi had felt a strong Force presence emanating from beyond the Unknown Regions. Unsure of what it was, Luke quietly told his allies that Sithis may have not truly lost after all.

After the battle, Luke, convinced that the Dark Lord's holocron was truly vile, plunged it into the forgotten planet FX-124, ensuring that no one would ever become ensnared by it.

Post-mortem[]

Yuuzhan Vong War[]

With the Dark Lord's defeat, the Darksiders dissolved and the Core Worlds were liberated. Finally, Sithis was defeated for good and this time, he would remain incapacitated. Belsavis was retaken by the New Republic, who rebuilt the planet for the sole purpose of holding the Dark Lord prisoner. A massive shipyard and space stations were built, guarded by a specialized force of Jedi dedicated solely to ensuring that no one would disturb Sithis' dormant spirit.

However, Luke's suspicions proved correct. Three years after the defeat of Sithis, the galaxy was invaded by the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong, who felt Sithis' scream and had since planned an invasion for the galaxy. Apparently, Sithis spent his time manipulating the Yuuzhan Vong through some form of telepathy, convincing them that he was their chief deity, Yun-Yuuzhan.

For four years, the Yuuzhan Vong War raged. At its end, it had become the biggest conflict in galactic history, resulting in the deaths of over 300 trillion civilians and utter devastation. The war branded Sithis as the incarnation of evil, and even after his death many still continued to curse his name.

Destruction of the holocron[]

In 138 ABY, a descendant of Luke Skywalker, Cade Skywalker, acquired the Dark Lord's holocron at a reef on the planet FX-124, while tracing his family's legacy. After Cade had found the holocron, he brought it back with him and managed to unlock it. As before, a younger version of Sithis, calling himself by the Dark Lord's original name; Menelag, stepped forward.

Menelag, acknowledging that his future self was imprisoned, was fueled with anger and released a dark Force wave that was heading for Coruscant. When the Jedi felt the fragment of Sithis' spirit return, they pursued Cade in an effort to destroy the holocron for good. Afterwards, Cade, and the others of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, combined their technology and power to finally destroy the accursed artifact. Cade also found an unexpected ally in the form of Sabrael Kallig, a descendant of Lord Sithis and a Jedi Master. After continuously blasting the device with powerful Force abilities, the holocron exploded in a fury of dark side energy, and the artifact was no more.

Legacy[]

Even after his final defeat, many still considered Sithis to be the embodiment of everything that the Sith had stood for, having become comparable to other Lords like Vitiate, Naga Sadow, and Marka Ragnos. As a being who was involved in galactic affairs for over 3,000 years, Sithis had time enough to build a legacy that lasted even a hundred years after his defeat.

Sithis was not only directly the cause for major galactic events like the New Sith Wars, the Yuuzhan Vong War, or the fall of Vitiate's Sith Empire, but also indirectly caused the Clone Wars and the resulting fall of the Galactic Republic by creating the means that allowed for the rise of characters such as Darth Sidious, Bane, and Plagueis.

Major figures in galactic history were influenced by Sithis and his works, most notably the Order of the Sith Lords, Darth Sidious, Lumiya, Darth Caedus, and Darth Krayt. Ultimately, most Sith that came after the rise of the Dark Lord could say that their rise to power would not have been possible had Sithis not risen before them as well.

However, many did not remember the Dark Lord so fondly. After the Yuuzhan Vong War had ended, the New Republic informally initiated an act of damnatio memoriae, and tried to erase every last bit of the Dark Lord's legacy. Ultimately considered to have achieved the status of being the most hated and feared individual in galactic history, many tried to forget who Sithis was as to forever curse his memory.

Personality and traits[]

Principles! What principles are those? Flagrant murder of a master, destruction of Imperial property, mockery of tradition? Your very existence is an affront to principle, and your refusal to submit to Sith tradition only makes things worse.
—Darth Thanaton to Darth Nox

Manipulative, cunning and ambitious, Sithis used treachery to break both allies and enemies. An example of Nox's manipulation mastery was when he successfully manipulated Ashara Zavros into opening a Sith holocron that began her transition into a Dark Jedi, her abandonment of the Jedi Order and her choice to become Kallig's follower. Sithis delved deep into experimenting with long forbidden powers and didn't hesitate to develop dangerous yet scientifically advanced weapons of mass destruction in order to increase influence and seize authority. This shows that the Dark Lord wasn't afraid to defy tradition, believing that the Sith Empire had to change methods and tactics to achieve victory, which made him a dangerous and hated enemy not only to traditionalists like Darth Thanaton but also to the Jedi and the Republic.

Sithis took great pleasure in the feeling of subterfuge during his political maneuverings. The Dark Lord was quite different from his peers in that he didn't needlessly slaughter or torture others simply for his amusement. Although he took joy in the feeling of being powerful, dominant, and feared, the Sith Lord also knew to control and restrain himself in doing so if the situation called for it. He knew the importance of reputation and alliances and was smart enough to not overdo his cruelties. Sithis knew how to keep his followers in line; electrocuting those who were defiant, but rewarding accomplishments. In turn, many were afraid to defy the Dark Lord, but also longed for his approval. Sithis also did not take kindly when being talked down to because of his history as a former slave or his quick rise to power, yet this same history and power did impress some like Darth Decimus and the feared Dread Masters.

The Dark Lord was above all extremely proud and aloof to a fault. Considering himself above "mortals" and actually believing himself a god, Sithis detested his past as a lesser slave and was quick to silence anyone who even dared to mention his origins. Certainly, Sithis was even worshipped by others as a deity; most prominently by the Yuuzhan Vong - who believed Sithis to be the incarnation of their creator god: Yun-Yuuzhan. The Vong believed that their creator deity sacrificed parts of his body to create the universe, mirroring Sithis shedding his body to gain more power.

Even though Sithis was corrupted, the Dark Lord also showed respect to some individuals and cultures such as his apprentice Xivhkalrainik. When Xivhkalrainik told Sithis of the Kaleesh, he showed interest in it and asked questions about their culture. As such, Sithis cared little about one's standing in terms of one's species, valuing and respecting those who were useful and loyal to the young Sith Lord and to the Empire, a trait that was rare in the Sith Empire and was shared by Darth Nox's ally, Darth Marr.

Despite Sithis' amoral nature and ambition to achieve power, Darth Marr and others note that while the Dark Lord's methods were unorthodox, they serve the Empire's interests, not just his. As stated by Darth Marr, he "serves the Empire in his own way" and has done far more than any other member of the Dark Council would have done in the Dark Lord's time on the Council.

In contrast to what many believe, Sithis was once capable of love and affection, sharing a romantic relationship with his ally, Lana Beniko, at one point. However, the Dark Lord's deep immersion in the dark side had functionally robbed him of the very few emotions he could still feel nearing the end of his life. Ultimately, the Dark Lord had become utterly emotionless, being driven solely by his desire to conquer the galaxy.

It is mentioned by some, that Sithis had a completely different personality during his time as a slave. The young Menelag was seen as a bashful, intelligent, but also a saddened individual. His experiences in his youth, particularly losing his last family members had broken him, but also fueled his strength in the dark side. The future Dark Lord was a very impulsive and angry young man as a Sith acolyte, but became a calm, calculating master of darkness in his later years.

As a Sith pureblood, Sithis' original body was red-skinned with red eyes. His face also had cranial extensions, as was common with most Red Sith. Despite the fact that Sith Purebloods had an innate and natural ability to hide the effects of deep dark side immersion, Sithis instead chose not to hide his facial deformities, as he believed them to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies.

Powers and abilities[]

From slavery rises the most powerful Sith in generations. Darth Thanaton is right to fear you.
Darth Decimus to Darth Nox
Nox drains life

Darth Nox uses Force drain

An immensely powerful Sith assassin, Sithis was able to channel the Force and adapt it in ways that suited a variety of needs, including subduing, stunning or killing of foes. Sithis was also an astonishingly proficient user of Force lightning. The Dark Lord was a proficient lightsaber duelist, utilizing a double-bladed lightsaber in combat.

Proof of Sithis's power was demonstrated when Khem Val, the former servant of Tulak Hord, became one of his companions despite many powerful Dark Lords avoiding Khem Val while imprisoned in stasis due to the Dashade's Force immunity and record for killing and devouring even some of the most powerful Force-sensitives.

The immediate aspiration for the young, powerful Sith apprentice and eventually Sith Lord was his ascension to the Dark Council. Sithis's strength in the dark side was enough to completely overpower a Dark Council member of Darth Thanaton's caliber. During their duel with Thanaton, Sithis demonstrated the ability to use Force deflection to fend off Force lightning, such as when he effortlessly swatted aside Thanaton's lightning attacks. Telekinesis was among the Dark Lord's talents, such as when Nox threw Thanaton clear across the Dark Council chamber. Nox's telekinesis was also able to halt Darth Thanaton's lightsaber strike and force the experienced Sith Lord to his knees.

Lord Sithis was immensely proficient in the "innate gift" of Sith Sorcery, particularly the long forgotten Force walk ritual to draw strength from multiple Sith spirits in order to explosively augment their power in the dark side. Their tremendously increased powers through the use of Force Walk was enough to overpower a Sith Lord as strong as Darth Thanaton. As explained by Aloysius Kallig, Sithis had a rare "pull among ghosts", enabling them to sense Sithis's presence from a distance and invoke long hidden emotions. Sithis was also a proficient user of the Force Storm, using it in combat against a variety of enemies and attackers. The Dark Lord was also capable of using Force drain and used it to drain opponents while invigorating himself and his allies.

Much like Darth Niyvius, Sithis, in his youth, was extraordinarily strong willed, as the young Sith was able to resist the spirits' attempts to drive the him mad, the fear-inducing powers of the Dread Masters, and even the dominating abilities of the Sith Emperor himself.

Behind the scenes[]

This article represents SharkyBytesz's version of the character story of the Sith Inquisitor player class in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game from LucasArts and BioWare. As a result of being player determined, no canonical description of this individual is currently available; therefore, this article presents the subject's gender as male, as it was the gender chosen by SharkyBytesz during his playthrough of the game. When being given the choice of advancing to Sith assassin or Sith sorcerer, it is up to the player to decide. The default species options for Kallig are Human, Cyborg, Zabrak, Sith Pureblood, Twi'lek (the only Imperial class this species is available for), and Rattataki. Kallig will face anti-alien prejudice if not a Human, Cyborg, or Sith Pureblood, but this has minimal impact on the storyline.

The male Kallig is voiced by Euan Morton while the female Kallig is voiced by Xanthe Elbrick.

Darth title[]

At the end of the main storyline for the Sith Inquisitor class, which culminates in the player defeating Darth Thanaton, the player is granted the title of Darth by Darth Marr. The name accompanying the title is based on the player's alignment: If the player has a reputation as a master of the dark side, they are called Darth Nox; an "inscrutable reputation" (neutral) results in Darth Occlus; a reputation for serving the Empire (light side) marks the player as Darth Imperius. Regardless of which title is granted for the storyline, the Darth title precedes the character's chosen name should the player choose to display it as their in-game title. The Inquisitor will generally be referred to as "Dark Lord", and occasionally by the name granted by Darth Marr, in dialogue. If the player starts the Sith Inquisitor class at level 60 and skips the preceding story quests, they will automatically be referred to as Darth Imperius.
