The Hammerhead II-class heavy cruiser, often simply just called the Hammerhead II, was a starship manufactured by Cybe Drives as the physical successor to the Rendili Hyperworks' highly-successful vessel, the Hammerhead-class Cruiser.
History[]
Republic service[]
The Hammerhead II's physical design was loosely based on the Hammerhead-class cruiser used in the days of the Jedi Civil War. The ship was designed in 25 BBY and models of the vessels had been produced and early models served in the Judicial Starfleet.
In 22 BBY, a number of ships of this class could be found within the Republic Navy, often acting as support vessel. On occasion however, the Hammerhead II was deemed fit to act as flagship.
Later service[]
Few of these vessels had transitioned into the Imperial fleets, however, being relegated the duty of patrol vessel in the Outer Rim Territories. By the time of the Battle of Yavin, they had all been phased out.
The rebellion found use for these ships as many models became available through the black market. Similarly, a number of these were deployed with the Corporate Sector's Picket Fleet.
Finally, as Cybe Drives was the primary supplier of the Aradan Union, many stock vessels were gifted to the faction.
Characteristics[]
The Hammerhead II was armed with plenty of weapons to perform escort roles, as well as a tractor beam to track down pirate ships for border patrol. It was armed with 12 quad turbolaser batteries to engage ships smaller than cruisers, as well as 12 double medium turbolasers. In addition, 4 Point-defense cannon to defend itself from starfighters.
A variant, the Hammerhead IIe-class existed, featuring gravity well projectors instead of tractor beams.
